some serbian acquaintences have introduced me to serbian pop music. See e.g. this video, which seems to be some mixture of music, soft porn and advertisement for real estate in monte negro. Great 3D plane animation also. I should study and ask more before I say anything, but this kind of pop (turbo-folk etc) with a greek/turkish influence is apparently incredibly popular in the balkans. You can easily find more accordion 'n' bass with zillions of youtube views by looking at the related videos
I like this better than their eurovision entry.

She has videos on youtube of herself that she apparently got her neighbors to record for her. Otherwise I might have assumed that this was some elaborate scheme banking on people who like reading nonsense that schizophrenics write. More and more people like reading that stuff, but luckily it's very hard to fake the sheer level and quantity of what schizophrenics can output, luckily because I don't want to see a surfeit of fake schizophrenic writing designed to appeal to people with an interest in it. I don't think I've ever seen faux-schizophrenic stuff that even approaches looking real.

I thought that enough, but in fact, somebody else who was interested went to the trouble of stalking through all the phone numbers and shit that she mentions, and eventually pieced together that Lovey Bahn = Vivian Tu Banh, who

Oh

She didn't go to jail for that. And even earlier she also did this
Quote
In November 2010, Jaime Beltran received a telephone call from Banh offering to give him a massage. One or two days later, on November 12, Beltran called Banh back and she told him to meet her at a particular location. When he arrived at the agreed upon location, Banh got into Beltran’s car and directed him to drive to a restaurant because she was hungry. After they had finished eating, Banh directed Beltran to drive to a motel where she would give him a massage.

After Banh and Beltran walked into a motel room, both removed all of their clothes and got on the bed. Banh then suddenly got up, put her clothes on, grabbed Beltran’s wallet, and told him to pay her. She removed the money from his wallet. She also took his watch and the keys to his van, and opened the door to the motel room. Beltran told Banh she was not going to rob him, told her not to leave, and warned her he would call the police. Banh struck Beltran in the face many times, causing Beltran to bleed. Banh went out to Beltran’s van, collected her belongings that she had left there, put the keys in the van, and ran away with Beltran’s money and watch.
And there are even more stories too. Something like 256 books written. But word is she is probably in a mental institution right now in California

super awkward venetian snares interview

re: videogame thread, videogames need an aaron funk, like just totally hates his fanbase and honestly isn't trying to please anyone but himself (possibly the most important thing, the way Undertale guy comes across is like he needs people to find him clever or something as his lifeblood or someshit) also random sensory experiences in this person's videogames would be like earthbound disturbing/intense experiences turned up to 11??? like vsnares songs are that 'experience' sort of feeling you're talking about imo but like OH NO NOT THIS MUCH EXPERIENCE at least with his earlier stuff

the thing that annoys me is that the tools to make/distribute multimedia in the form of videogame are totally there in 2016, and while we do get odd/misanthropic? things like yume nikki they are few and far between? like I hope what I'm trying to do musicwise makes its own kind of sense, but I wish more stuff like this existed as videogames or just multimedia in general, something that involves more senses. I actually have a few hundred unreleased tracks that I'm planning on including somewhere on bandcamp just because they exist and I think they should be accessible, but that's how I see it - they should be ACCESSIBLE, like you can do a google search and get lucky and find this weird music but something like Undertale just comes across to me as very deliberate and done for views/hits/downloads, maybe not even $$$, just some kind of 'points' that mean nothing/have no relation to real life as far as giving legitimacy - almost like it's a videogame to him??? I dunno

some music guide said you should /avoid/ this CD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ooGnZfswrU

which I kind of agree as far as I don't listen to it often?? but it's great as just random unfiltered tracks that somehow got compiled into an album. When I get around to making new releases, it's going to be 1) huge compilation of old stuff, 2) huge compilation of new ideas with no real filter on the complexity/seriousness of the tracks aside from being more or less entirely homemade sounds. Just the 'filter' part is important 2 me, I want it to sound completely unfiltered because 1) hard drive space is cheap and 2) bandcamp will let you upload a 500 track album if you wanted to (probably). I want it to be less like finding an album and more like discovering the youtube channel of someone the likes of wendyvainity

Edit: I guess what would make me happy is if someone uncovered a webpage of completely legitimately interesting RPG Maker games, but they were never part of any scene, and literally the person got enough enjoyment out of experiencing their own game that they didn't feel the need to share it on any message board/website/whatever. With 99% of RPG Maker games I get the feeling like they made something to share with other people/only enjoyable creative experience in that context? Something like Yume Nikki I get the impression "ok so guys I made a thing, I'm just gonna go dump this on the internet and make of it what you will"

in my search for obscurity I found a thing like that with hundreds of japanese rpg maker games but most of them have the default screen and have japanese memes and stuff. you can try to filter the bad ones out by the byte size but I still think there may be some hidden gems
http://www.geocities.jp/easiest4/hokanf02.html

example: went to random page and downloaded a game called "untitled", only 1 map and it's just a short cutscene of a ms paint fight. then a looping gif from some japanese show is shown with music. then it ends. oh and also you usually need to import a rpg_rt.exe from a game you have

RE: cicada on Lovey Bahn
the synopsis/description of the books are amazing but I wonder what's actually in the books. 50 pages of schizophrenic babble or 1 page copied 50 times?? only the true collectors know...

also ragnar I really like your music and my favorite thing about them is usually the titles (some of them will give me headaches though)

A big part of my childhood was hunting endlessly for weird interesting video game shit, and after many years of that i was flagging, so finding this topic was a big fucking deal, and I've always wanted to make a similar sort of repository where everything in this thread and beyond it that is vaguely interesting and weird gets linked to so if any other kid is looking for similar things they could hit the jackpot and not have to spend years slowly realizing "hey, you don't have to build media fucking boring". I would have killed to get a big set of media curated by people who KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. The vast majority of attempts at cross-media curation are just embarrassing. I know we shot around idea of tumblr earlier in thread but it would be so lame to contain it all in a blog framework. I just don't have the capacity to build and maintain a website, which is what I would really like.

YN always struck me as something made out of pure love for raw weird-experience quotient, which I always admired, and the developer showed/s ZERO interest in updating the website or responding in any way to the massive fanbase that sprang up, which I also always admired. If the game had started updating again and shit it might be interesting but it's way way better that you can only find work by this person in one increasingly outdated location.

Right? I think you can look inside of some of the books and they're actually different, but her style includes lots of sentences written over and over again, so it seems doable. I really want to drop down on one of the $7 ones... I really should...

This link was the one that BLEW MY MIND when I was younger and didn't have salt forums yet. It's a wiki for "tanasinn" which is some Japanese 2ch zalgo-shit meme, I have no idea what its deal is, but as far as I can tell, saying these things are tanasinn is essentially identical to saying they're salt (different in some key, unfathomable particulars, but it seems to guarantee some strangeness and therefore interesting things). I seriously recommend poking around this website.

http://seesaawiki.jp/w/uvoa/d/%a5%d5%a5%ea%a1%bc%a5%b2%a1%bc%a5%e0

The left sidebar takes you to various kinds of media - you can google translate or see what each one is in their urls (books, music [which ][/which] video games, FREE video games [awww ][/awww], movies etc.) That link above is the Free Games one - it's festooned with RPG maker games. I downloaded and played these in the PRIME of my aesthetic development and some of them are simply not found outside of this one place.

NO. : I don't remember what this one is
PP's World: I posted screenshots of this wayyyyyyy back when I first got here it's a fucking insane RPG maker game with a very short plot, I couldn't understand any of it but at several points very, very cool and strange experiences are yours to find
SOUP: This one is easy to find outside of Japan because it got reported on by tim w and tigsource, it's an LSD fangame. I liked it when I was a kid, but it's not very interesting.
OH!威信慕: All I remember about this is that it's a visual novel based off of a cooking anime and within the first minute I somehow got a giant hand to descend from the sky and remove one of the characters, who screamed. I haven't played it since then.

And you'll also see western games known for their special styles - La La Land series and Uin (same guy), Knytt.

edit: If you only download one game, maybe try らくがきランド / Rakugaki Land / Graffiti Land for me, it's an RPG maker game with this fun sketchy "graffiti" style. I played it when I was little and couldn't figure out SHIT but maybe there's more to it than talking to colorful shapes?

らくがきランド

Whatever it is.... there's something there..... why else would we feel the need to make up words to describe this underlying feeling? fenicience, tanasinn, salt... all just words for memorably bizarre but connoting all sorts of other things. Very personal.

The film page suggests both Serial Experiments Lain and.... Gumby. I always liked how, because I have no idea what tanasinn is or means, I develop my own guessed-at conception based on the juxtaposition of all these disparate aesthetics... what could've prompted the inclusion of some of these under one stylistic banner? What is the shared element between Gumby and Cat Soup and Fantastic Planet?

Bill Drummond was one of the founding members of the prankster electronic musical act the KLF. While not a practicing chaos magician, the KLF were greatly inspired by Discordianism and Robert Anton Wilson’sIlluminatus! trilogy. The KLF notoriously ended their career by firing a machine gun full of blanks into the audience at the 1992 BRIT Awards, burning a million quid, and dumping a dead sheep at an aftershow party.
Below is the Illuminatus-inspired music video for KLF’s utterly bizarre danced hit “Justified and Ancient” (featuring country music legend Tammy Wynette on vocals)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu8fwgGFhvI&ab_channel=OptimusPrime

I remember hearing this around as a kid. Read about the KLF a few times in art school. Never realised it was by them. For me this is up there with the revelations of Ace of Base being a conduit for neo-nazi propaganda.

Now if only there was an explanation for why cotton eye joe exists.

The South African Daily Sun has some really fun articles:

Quote
LAST week Eric was so spooked by a ghostly skeleton that he left his shack to live in an abandoned skorokoro – but it hasn’t helped.

Last week Daily Sun told the story of Eric Dzingwa from Mthatha, who said a skeleton with a golden tooth and wearing navy-blue pyjamas peed in his pee pot, left small piece of shit in the pot and wrote SPOOK on his shack before disappearing. According to Eric, the skeleton has struck again.

He said on Monday night at about 11pm it came and took him on hell-ride in the engineless skorokoro without wheels.

This time, when the skeleton arrived, it was wearing boxer shorts.

“Ndilandele njandini,” said the skeleton and told Eric to sit in the passenger seat. The taxi went at 200km/h on a railway line to nowhere for the whole night. In the morning I found myself sitting outside my haunted shack,” said Eric.

“I’m very scared.”

http://www.dailysun.co.za/News/National/monster-eel-got-drunk-20160518]MONSTER EEL GOT DRUNK![/url]
Quote
It was dark and they couldn’t see what was in the net.
“We were scared that we had a crocodile in the net,” he said.
“We thought of jumping out of the boat and running home. But then the monster started getting tired. After half an hour it finally surrendered.”
Go-Back said they couldn’t believe it when they switched on their torches and saw the giant eel in the net.
Adolph said: “I believe the eel got drunk on our beer and that’s why we defeated it. We’ll sell it for R500.”

I just started doing mturk myself; been doing a lot of batch work for pennies because a lot of the higher paying HITs are locked behind the 1000 accepted HITs threashold.
