bonzi_buddy there is no secret diet that will make you feel fantastic, and beyond a certain level it's really not worth worrying or thinking about what you can or can't eat. it's a waste of time and energy and brain power. do what you want but be advised!!

I, too, am curious about the effects of cooking on vegetables. Someone told me cooked vegetables lose all of their nutrients, yet I've also heard that steamed vegetables maintain their nutrients. I JUST DON'T KNOW.

why ya...!!! don't question me ya freaks or i'll beat ya to a bloody pulp!!! spit!! you ain't no friend of mine!! i'll beat ya all!!

actually it's just supposed health benefits for liver i'm thinking of with raw diet. i've read some good stories where people's state/mind has improved vastly after enduring the raw diet when they haven't slipped with it. raw because cooked/roasted food doesn't give enough work for the body to process through and it should be clean of extra shit. supposedly to get into a state where the body starts to clean up the toxics. i don't know exactly but i really need to change my diet a lot!!

Yeah, this is what bothers me too. I need to study on the subject...

Yeah this kind of bothers me, actually. There are a lot of stories floating around, but you should know that the raw food community tends to be pretty adamant about its beliefs. When I look at the Wikipedia article for raw foodism I see the phrase "Raw foodists believe..." used just a bit too often. These ideas about how eating a specific diet will "clean your body of toxins" sounds like a typical example of pseudoscience propaganda to me. (That and you live in one of the healthiest countries on earth, you're young and don't work in a coal mine. I don't think you have to worry that much about cleaning your body of toxins.)

Do what you want but if I were you I'd just start eating responsibly. Don't buy cheap stuff, eat 200 grams of vegetables and 2 pieces of fruit every day, regularly eat fatty fish. If that's not enough, experiment with pescetarianism or vegetarianism. Don't just dive into raw vegan food right away.

I think just doing what Dada said and paying more attention to your diet is enough to make you FEEL BETTER or w/e I don't think choosing to not cook your vegetables is necessary.

I'd say sushi, but most of the raw stuff in sushi is pretty gross. The traditional fish is ok, but when you start adding in raw molluscs and whatever the hell kind of thing squid are, then you have a problem.

I tend to eat the cooker or fishless varieties.

I think fish is a vegetable right??

Yeah I don't really want to DISCOURAGE you or anything and I won't presume to be an expert, but food is the basis for your well-being. So it's not to be taken lightly and in my opinion taking bold steps is something you shouldn't do without talking it over with a nutritionist.

It depends on what nutrient, what vegetable, and the cooking style.  With cooking, steaming is the way to go to preserve the most nutrients but some nutrients like Vitamin C are destroyed by cooking.  Also some nutrients like Calcium are water soluble so if you boil Kale in water chances are you are you're going to dumb the water so you lose much of the calcium.  Phytochemicals as well can be altered by processing.

I don't believe a raw diet will clean you of toxins however I do believe it can make you feel better, mainly because the large amounts of nutrients and phytochemicals it can give you.

Yes but providing some nutrients do in fact get killed off by cooking, there is no reason you couldn't eat foods rich in those nutrients raw (like for vitamin c, eat some oranges) and then eat other foods cooked.  I don't think it justifies a 100% raw diet.

i think a raw diet would scour your tracts pretty well but i think most toxins in you are stored in your fat cells. they only come out if you lose weight, which you could well do eating healthier, but you'll likely feel way worse before you start to feel better.

i distrust food an awful lot. i have a huge amount of food allergies that doesn't help our estranged relationship, but i think it's something like SLEEP which we all NEED but we don't really know that much about in terms of what's best.
