watching the classic 70's doctor who and the silurians. Amazing story, decent characters and just overall coooooooolness. classic who had serious balls in it's approach to political themes, Like 'the mutants' was the only bbc show in years to handle the theme of aparthied, Inferno tackled global warning(in a very literal sense) and fossil fuels, or how many 80's stories (paradise towers, happyness patrol etc) critiqued thatcher's britain in a very direct, and yet non-punk kind of way.
Shame that whole kind of thing has been lost in the new who :(

I feel as though that sort of thing has been lost in general when it comes to TV shows. Here in the Netherlands too. Especially since the 90s in our case.

We've become more squeamish too.

advertisers have tv writers by the nutz

idk if that's a bad thing - the sooner tv is totally run by ad men the sooner people will stop giving a shit about tv (hopefully??)

Open Class: Screening and Discussion of “Mirroring Privilege: Making White Visible”
3:30 to 4:45 p.m., Hayward Hall, Room 213
"Mirrors of Privilege," a simply made but surprisingly compelling film, introduces Caucasians to the part of their “whiteness” that they have learned not to see. The film moves through a series of conversations with Caucasians who have thought deeply about race.

edit:
Open Class: Women’s Body Shapes Vary According to Their Ethnicity
9:30 to 10:45 a.m., The Tuttleman Center, Room 108
Join this open course taught by Marie-Eve Faust, Ph.D., fashion merchandising program director. This course will discuss the differences of female body shapes (silhouettes) depending on ethnicity, age group, location and more.

hell on earth

"When I'm walking down the street, I like to smile. At black people. Don't you?" Opening line after the introduction. What follows is the description of an extremely contrived meta thought process of how slavery led to white guilt which led to this woman feeling sorry for herself because it hurts her too and yet black people don't care about that, which she thinks is just awful.

One of the suggested videos is called white privilige "The Big Lie".

One of the top rated comments on that video is:
Quote
@MrFerrariDaytona WRONG. plenty of what thing You "think" blacks "invented" are LIES!

Lets start with the biggest Lie..."a negro invented peanut butter"..WRONG, Aztecs invented peanut butter as far? back as the 1300s

Evertthing else is either with the help of whites/asians or with the knowlege and previous discoveries of whites/asians. example; the traffic light.

lol
it's on my campus as part of Unity Week, which is essentially a really terrible series of lectures and discussions about TOLERANCE aside from the few cultural things they do that can be pretty neat. if I had more time I would go to that mirrors of privilege screening and just burp and fart the whole time while wearing a bib and diaper
