OK OK, that time it is used right, if in bad taste.  But using it to describe people is not really a good use of it, so please try not to OK?
I swear sometimes it's like talking to kindergartners here.

really I'll give you one honest example. Man I  need a smoke can I have a fag. I just proved it FYI.

First of all you're American so you never say this, and second that's not the same word.  Please don't pretend like it is, that's what EDC did earlier and even he agreed that it was wrong to make light of the situation that way.

Would everyone please give it a rest? When one gets to a point where one can make no more forward progress, it's time to stop. Frankly all this arguing and fussing is far more annoying to me than the original incident ever was.

(Frankly I was more upset at Fuckcrypt for starting it- I'd read DDay's response as actually mocking him for what he'd said.)
Nothing wrong with pointing something like this out. We may hate the drama that springs from someone standing up for something and in doing so pitting themselves against the opinions of others, but if we can't get past that we can't progress.

this is the laziest trolling i've ever seen

if you compared this thread to a video of a drunk stephen baldwin sitting shirtless on a couch holding a hot dog just above where his dog could get to it it would still be less lazy than this

I found the argument/discussion interesting and I'm happy it came about. The can of worms that are the issues between the members of the forums are a unfortunate side effect. But an acceptable risk. What are we here for other for deep/progressive discussion?

Then again this is coming from the guy that posts 1 liners in the "what are you playing" topic.

Also Tristero:
Yeeeeah... what?

yeah, this is like saying "you're doing the right thing, but everybody hates being criticized, so think of your social standing a little bit".

frankly, criticism doesn't make you a bad person. it's not inherently a bad thing to criticize someone. I'd prefer it if instead of telling someone like vellfire to "relax", we instead say "yeah, I agree". that normalizes the critique and helps avoid discussions like this one we're having right now.

Sorry to dig up a quote from like 4 pages ago, but this really was not what I was trying to say. I wasn't really even refering to what she said about Warped, more like the people before him. I just thought that responding to opposition in a "Fuck you, you're wrong" kind of way is not going to be the most convincing way of having someone go to your side. Now I know that I don't know Vellfaire outside of Salt World, I don't know what she's been through, shit builds up, and this is most assuredly not how she talks to people all the time, but if someone responded to something I said like that in real life I would not be convinced to side with them AT ALL. I was really just trying to say that you've got to keep calm when you do this and avoid turning into an attack so you don't end up pissing off the people you're trying to help.

And seriously, I don't want to fight with Vellfaire or Dada. If you disagree with me then so be it.

you can't unknowingly troll. the way I see it, trolling has two accepted definitions: either you're willingly getting people riled up by espousing things you know they loathe, or you're giving your genuine opinion but ultimately decide to backtrack by claiming you were just trolling.

What I'm saying is no real hate needs to be apply to such word. If my friend was acting like a fool I could use the world as stop act like such *** and there is no real hate towards anyone.

But can we just drop it and accept.

Hate dose not need to be apply to a word. Is it negative yes but is it hateful no.

I think she's been very eloquent in explaining why she thinks this is the wrong thing to do. It wasn't "fuck you, you're wrong".

These things can be kind of difficult to deal with at times. Criticism is hard to swallow sometimes. But as long as there's an attempt to genuinely make people understand, and I think that's what this is, then it's worth listening to. And it's worth having the debate.

You didn't answer my question before.

If you had a black friend, and he was acting mean or annoying to you, would you ever say to him "stop being such a nigger"? Of course you wouldn't. Even if it doesn't bother your friend, then maybe it bothers the other black guy you don't know who's standing in earshot.

It's the same for the word fag, that's a word used to be demeaning and offensive to gay people. It doesn't matter what you mean by it. You could have the best intentions, and it wouldn't change a thing.

catamites what's on your mind posts are buried like so many wasted bros...their ephemeral nature is part of their beauty. in the future an alien-human hybrid explorer will uncover the first of thecatamites roguelike posts: unable to contain his anticipation, he brushes aside the other comments in haste - though his calloused fingers are dexterous and careful not to harm the surrounding posts -  "this must be it...the Golden Toad of thecatamites...it had been thought lost forever!" but to his dismay, only one other shard was discovered nearby, just as detailed and lustrous as the first, a work of art in itself...though the yearning for the whole is unbearable-

really I have to say, great distillation of the tones in their language thecats
I mean this is all OMG GW TOKEN GAY GUY having a say (although I think there are a couple of others around - hey remember when GW was mostly run by the HOMOSEX CABALS?! Good times), but I do find the use of the word 'faggot' to be incredibly offensive. Don't get me wrong, I can understand the humour in it under certain situations, but even with humour it's still a pretty offensive term. Words are wind, and shouldn't hurt, but they actually do sometimes.

I can never understand what it's like for a black person to hear the 'N' word, just as the majority of people won't understand what it's like for a homosexual person to hear the word 'faggot' used. The best result is just to moderate language to avoid offence. This isn't all OMG THOUGHT POLICE 1984, but basic decency and empathy towards others.

Queer was similar, but that's been RECLAIMED by gay people. I describe my own sexuality as Queer, for example. However, if someone CALLED me a 'queer', it'd be significantly different. It's similar to the 'N' word in this context. However, Faggot is a word that gay people haven't sought to reclaim, as it's one of the most venomous terms a person can use in reference to us.
just pointing out that as faust said, queer is similar to the n word in this way. but it's also really different. people inoffensively using queer to describe their or someone else's sexual identity isn't the same as the way nigger is used

and I think there are still lots of homosexual cannibals here

Yes, nice to know that you think a conversation about whether we should use words that can be extremely offensive to people is an "idiotic circular conversation".
