good to hear terrorantula. my grandparents finally moved into an assisted care home today, after my gmom was released from the hospital. I was pushing for it for while, but my dad was hesitant because of all the horror stories you hear about homes. my gmom has alzheimers and she started running away from home on a daily basis a couple months ago. eventually she got hit by a car (hit and run), but the neighbor saw it and drove her to the hospital. she's wasn't seriously injured thankfully, and has physically recovered. I don't really know why I'm posting this, but I've been imagining myself in that situation and it's the most frightening thing ever.

I was listening to "Slick Watts" by the Blue Scholars and noticed that he listed off the roster of what sounds like former players on the Seattle Supersonics and noticed "Jack Sikma" around 2:30. Isn't he kind of vaguely related to you, Dada? I thought it was kind of amusing if anything.

Jack Sikma is distant family of mine. (All Sikmas are related to one another, it's a very specific last name. My dad did a good amount of research on it.) I've never met him and probably never will, but it's interesting to know he used to be the star player of the Supersonics. And also hall of fame inductee! Right now the Supersonics don't even exist anymore, though.

I was rather shocked to see Noel and Lightning modeling for Prada, but I love it!

gonna point ppl to this whenever they talk about overpopulation or dwindling resources

destroyed hundreds of cultures and languages, killed, enslaved, and ruined the lives of a hundred billion people over the course of history, just to make some toys for algorithms to play with

Shit, wouldn't all of this be rendered pointless if we just started focusing on getting instantaneous communication (if possible)?

Like, I want my 0ms connection to china/mars.

http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla

The only thing I disagree with is the title, Nikola Tesla wasn't the greatest GEEK that ever lived. HE WAS THE GREATEST PERSON TO EVER LIVE.

Well the only way the greatest person who ever lived to not also the greatest geek that ever lived would be if the greatest person who ever lived was himself not a geek. Since by virtue of being the greatest person who ever lived, qualifies him to be a greater geek than any other geek that has ever lived.

So are you implying that Nikola Tesla was not a geek? Or just implying that stating that he is the greatest geek who ever lived undermines the all-too-true factual statement that Nikola Tesla is the greatest person who ever lived. Even if the fact that he is the greatest geek who ever lived is also an entirely true statement?

The question I pose might seem trivial yes, but I do believe the article itself means to claim that not only that the greatest person who ever lived just so happens to be a geek, but that it is also pragmatically impossible for the greatest person who has ever lived to not be a geek.

I recently consumed to much sugar to concentrate enough to answer you competently. Currently have a headache.

I'll risk it anyway:

My answer is that he is the greatest person to ever live because he DEDICATED HIMSELF COMPLETELY to advancing the human race to awesomeness. People talk about the burning of library of Alexandria that set us back so far in technology and innovation, I think Edison fucking Tesla over is the equivalent. The library of Alexandria was produced by many scholars. Tesla is but 1 man. He is practically a super hero that was tragically bested by a super villain, Edison and the general foolishness of the human race.

The rest of your post is semantics so I can't focus on that too well in my current state. but I'm definitely not suggesting Tesla was NOT a geek. I do think it arguably possible to not be a geek and be the greatest person. But its not very likely.

So I heard that Tesla was a proponent of eugenics.

An area of science he poorly understood. I agree he probably never should have even had a view on that since that wasn't his focus. Then again, most experts of the era he lived in may very well have been pro eugenics. I doubt it was all that uncommon. in fact I'm pretty sure it only started being really looked down upon after World War 2.

It also doesn't seem like he really pushed this idea anyway, it almost just seemed like a random thing that he thought. Hell the dude was celibate his entire life. (mentioned in my linked article/comic thing) So it not like he thought his genes were inherently superior. Or if he did, it would seem odd that he put no effort into passing his genes on to the next generation.

Biology/genetics wasn't, in general, very well understood area of study then, and this is a pretty small blemish on his otherwise awesome nature.

Also, IDK for sure but I'd assume he probably started talking about that when he was starting to lose it later in life.
