I walk or swim (I don't swim very often).

Mostly due to the joint damage and what not but mostly because I'm not INTENSE enough to run.

Yeah, I don't think the writer had any idea of how people would respond to her book from what I've read about it.

I think the idea of "Black people are the majority" could possibly be pulled off with the right writer or message behind it (like how the color of skin doesn't affect how a society is ran or something.) However, she clearly was not the right writer and she used it as a background for a generic Young Adult romance book that clumsily and insensitively dealt with race.

IDK that 'clumsily' is a strong enough word. She calls black people 'coals' and 'beastmen' and calls white people 'pearls'. :|

Running is one of the few excercises I like to do (that and cycling), but my asthma has gotten worse in the last couple years so it's kinda hard (plus I'm fat at the moment). I have quit smoking for like, a year and a half (since January 2011), and that's good. Problem is like once every 2 or 3 months I get some flare-up (I'm having one right now, doctor's appt. tomorrow, for like 2 weeks just been having constant asthma attacks, sucks bad) and I can't do much anything physical. But for the 2-3 months where I'm OK it's possible to run and I do occasionally. There's something very peaceful and serene about running, when you can fall into the groove and you just feel like a machine, your stride and breaths match, and you're just bouncing along, I love it. I can't run much distance, though, I can go about a mile before I start to get really tired (not enough practice), and I usually walk for a few minutes around the 3/4mi. mark. I tend to just run on a treadmill though (and half the time as soon as I look at the treadmill I just hop on a bicycle instead) in my apartment complex's gym.

Holy shit, I didn't know about the beastmen thing. I guess I was giving her the benefit of the doubt up to this point but I will stop now.

running is bogus, I ride bike. take care of your legs, ankles, knees, and hips. I've already had knee problems and while it was mostly fixed with physical therapy it's not something you wanna have happen. if you're doing it for that self-destructive runners high don't, just get high like normal people god

I've been running a bit lately amongst other things like trampoline and an exercise bike. I know what you are talking about with the 'runner's high' because I've been...chasing it......that's what it's all about for me. I want to get mentally stoned on exercise.

what did you do in the physical therapy? jedi therapy...

also short, intense burst interval training is probably the way to go...

Dude, the fact that you run even though you smoke is pretty praiseworthy.

I can barely deal with stairs sometimes!

I'm a pretty light smoker though. These days I go through like a pack a week and usually smoke like half a cigarette at a time.
If I go out a lot during the week it's a different story, I turn to it to ease social anxiety and smoke a lot more.

stretches, exercises, weight lifting..............pretty boring, part of my kneecap was misaligned and rubbing bone on bone bra

Damn dude my aunt and mom both had knee issues like that, they had no cartilage (or whatever it is that absorbs the impacts there... I think it's the cartilage) and were always bone-on-bone, and apparently it's excruciating. They have shots that inject some padding in there but it will wear down, etc. My aunt has it far worse (I think she has none left, my mom has little), she can barely walk. It's pretty sad :( She's also going blind, not sure what it is but basically the center of vision will eventually go away (she'll only be able to see in her peripheral, not sure if that will be affected or by how much).


But yeah ruining your knees/ankles would be pretty terrible, it's a good reason to go easy on running, and to learn how to run properly. You're supposed to run on the balls of your feet, etc. etc. Though isn't biking still hard on parts, like your hips and lower back? You're also more susceptible to hemorrhoids, aren't you? I like biking/cycling more (I don't actually own a bike, I use a stationary one) than running for sure.
