For a couple different purposes. I know alot of people here aren't inclined to that sort of thing but I live in a place where you can buy one really easily and there are plenty of places to shoot it. And was wondering if there was anyone around here that knows a bit about firearms.

My pops owns a couple acres of land on the Blackwater River State Forest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackwater_River_State_Forest.

My little brother does alot of hunting there. I'm not really into hunting but I might go with him or something sometime I dunno. Its a good place to shoot a gun anyways without having to worry about disturbing anyone else. There are some cougers(big cats I'm pretty sure they're cougers)/black bears that roam around the area pretty often too. One of the black bears started running at my cousin, his step son, and my brother a couple weeks ago but it went away so they didn't have to shoot it. But thats something to keep in mind, something big enough to take down a mid sized bear (so I prolly don't want a fucking 9mm).

Its also for defensive purposes, although I'm more that capable of fighting someone with my hands alot of people that would like to rob you don't do that. And I often drive through some pretty rough places around the country in a $42,000 car and look like I'm 16 and am suprised no one has tried to rob me yet. But when I was staying with some girl that lived in (I guess you could say a "rough" area where I live) some crackhead looking motherfuckers were perched down infront of my car and I'm pretty sure they were trying to figure out how to take my rims off. They ran off when I walked outside but its still something to think about. Also my brother and his GF just moved in with me and they've had problems with people they knew stealing their shit and walking into their house with guns and though they don't affiliate with those people anymore, I'm not going to put up with that kind of shit and I will put a hole in someone if I have to.

I know alot of people on here are (or atleast were) anti-gun/anti-violence and all that jazz but fuck it. Its too easy to get one in that state and I'm not about to sit in my house full of nice shit when I know there are a bunch of losers around that want my shit and would def take advantage of that.

I want to try to get a concealed carry permit just to cover my ass but I don't specifically need one because of two laws in florida:

Quote from: vehicle carry
Vehicle carry without a permit is allowed either in a snapped holster in plain view (firearm in its case), or when the firearm is concealed if the firearm is "securely encased". "Securely encased" means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster (if the holster has a form of retention); in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access.[2] (Note: this legal condition is not the same as "encased securely.") Vehicle carry without a permit is permitted when concealed even if it is not "securely encased" if the firearm is not "readily accessible". Vehicle carry on one's person inside a vehicle without a permit is not allowed.
Without a permit, firearms in a vehicle must be securely encased, period. Securely encasing the firearm makes it not readily accessible. The holster does not need to be snapped, it can be any retention type holster, such as black hawks serpa holster. Once a firearm is securely encased, it can be stored anywhere inside the vehicle and is not limited to just the glove compartment/center console. There is also no such thing as the two step law or two step process.

Which allows you to carry a gun in your car without a permit.

Quote from: Castle Doctrine
As of October 1, 2005, Florida became a "Stand-your-ground" state. The Florida law is a self-defense, self-protection law. It has four key components:

  • It establishes that law-abiding residents and visitors may legally presume the threat of bodily harm or death from anyone who breaks into a residence or occupied vehicle and may use defensive force, including deadly force, against the intruder.
  • In any other place where a person “has a right to be,” that person has “no duty to retreat” if attacked and may “meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.”
  • In either case, a person using any force permitted by the law is immune from criminal prosecution or civil action and cannot be arrested unless a law enforcement agency determines there is probable cause that the force used was unlawful.
  • If a civil action is brought and the court finds the defendant to be immune based on the parameters of the law, the defendant will be awarded all costs of defense.[/l][/l][/l][/l][/l][/l][/l][/l][/l][/l]
Where if you're attacked, pretty much anywhere from what I understand within reason. You've got no legal responsibility to run from said attacker if in possession of a firearm and are allowed to use lethal force, if necessary.

My buddy is in training to be a cop and he obsesses over guns and gun laws so I'll probably check alot of this with him before I actually get one. Like I said I'm not out to shoot anyone and its mostly just because I want to learn how to shoot well but if I'm gonna get a gun then I might as well know when and how I can use it if needed.

Now to the types of guns I want to get.

I want to get a lever-action rifle, maybe a winchester. My bud had one and it looks fricken awesome and I like the way they're handled. I'm more of a precision guy and I don't really want some semi-automatic bullet feeder and the idea of a lever action rifle is awesome to me.

I bought my dad one of these a couple years ago. Its a anniversary style brass stock Henry .22

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_abaJ0xbRju4/SlYNBr2-oOI/AAAAAAAABcs/YhkMXpldLiI/s400/g1.jpg

My dad gave me some russian pistol the year after but he wouldn't let me keep it because as soon as he gave it to me I dropped the clip and started pulling the top back to get the bullet out of the chamber and I guess he thought I was trying to load it or something and was drunk and started freaking out (he thought I didn't know anything about guns). And because I was having trouble with the cops and he didn't want me to get pulled over with it. The rounds are smaller than a 9mm though and it looks like a girl's gun because its really really small so I dunno if I want it anyways.

I was looking at revolvers, I like the old style long barrels but I haven't found any newer ones I liked because they're all pretty much black powder. My brother was trying to get me to buy the Smith & Wesson .50 cal 500. It looks like this: http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/975/b91/975b9174-b8fb-4832-9fd1-9a584cb0cd9f

It looks cool and I like it but I don't know if I want to start out with a gun that holds that big of a round in it and its supposed to be pretty hardcore.

I'd buy a desert eagle or a glock or something but it would have to be a nice one. I don't want some standard issue boring ass cop gun.

Thats all I got now, I might look around a lil more but I'm looking for some sort of rifle and a pistol and I don't know very much about guns otherwise (I do know how to shoot and handle them though (enough to not kill myself or anyone else accidentally)).

I also want to buy a bigass fixed bladed knife but thats easier. I got a folded-blad gerber military issue combat knife my buddy gave to me (he's an army ranger and stole it from their inventory depot) I keep it in my car and its pretty sweet but folded blade knifes break easier.

Oh yeah also in the state of florida you can buy guns from private dealers or anyone pretty much that has the gun registered. My brother has a hookup with a guy that knows his boss that sells some really cool ones for real cheap so I might check that out. I'm not buying shit without papers and a serial number though, thats a dumb move.

I would also put a hole in someone if they tried to steal my Nintendo. It seems like the rational thing to do.

No they had their car stolen among other things by some skeezer folk and like I also said there was some methhead/crazy guy that they knew by affiliation with somebody else that walked in their house with a loaded shotgun. The guy is dead now because he got in a shootout with some cops but yeah I'm not the kind of person to just start looking for somone to put a bullet into but I will shoot someone if they come up to my house with a loaded gun like that I don't care what their initial intentions are.

I said before I live in a place with some pretty fucked up people and that only part of the reason I'd like to have a firearm, you shouldn't make broad assumptions about my character without either asking me my intention or actually reading all of what the fuck I wrote before making an assumption about me like that.

I didn't even know it was used like that.

We use it for another term for basers, pillheads, shitty people who steal shit to support their terrible habbits. Those people I'm referring to are all men. So I'm guessing, no?

yeah I dunno what that means and I think I have heard it used mysogonistically but thats not where I got it from and I didn't remember that till I looked it up.

A baser is someone who just has a drug problem and is unconstructive/lazy

A skeezer is someone with a drug problem that supports it by being destructive/a piece of shit

shit is slang dude different people use it for different reasons. its not the same as saying "bitch or slut" or something like that though I think the term "whore" can be used without gender or even sexual specification safely. Also I consider someone who sits back picking at the words someone uses and not their intention or meaning in context is even worse because that makes them a "better than thou" judgemental asshole in my book.

I've never fired a gun before. But I'd like to at some point and maybe just learn about them in case someday I'm put into a situation that I need to use one correctly. IDK if I'd ever choose to own one. (I'd have to be in a pretty dire situation). Really though, I've heard revolvers are generally a good gun to start with (for ownership) because they are easy to maintain and are reliable though one might argue regular magazine fed pistols are safer, since they have a safety (Though I read that some people think that safeties are a placebo) Obviously I wouldn't get a .45, .50, or .357 magnum. I would think those would be unwieldy and unnecessary for your situation. You probably should use a standard 9mm/.38 Special and any particular pistol/revolver you get. As for the specific gun I would say its largely important to get something you think is comfortable holding, has clear sights, maybe something with particularly modern features.

To be honest I wish kevlar body armor was legal to own, I'd much rather have body armor. Then again I'm sure there is a reasonable purpose to them being illegal, and not the things that body armor is supposed to protect you from.

Actually, if you are in such a bad neighborhood, wouldn't it be smarter to just move out?

Well, I understand your intentions. What I was jokingly trying to say is that I don't understand why you'd shoot someone over a car or anything but a threat to your own- or someone else's life. Especially since it would increase your chances of getting shot in the process.

well I wouldn't at first I would try to beat the hell out of them though and if they had a weapon I'd use mine (which is pretty likely). I actually went to highschool with a guy that asked me for a gun and when I told him I wouldn't give him one nor had one I found out he'd used a fake one to try to rob someone at gunpoint (a guy I also knew very well) and nearly got stabbed to death.

Thats the problem my brother is having (has had), shit like that keeps happening because he keeps "letting it go". He'll stop affiliating himself with that person and another one will come out and do that shit because they know nothing will happen to them. Also he can't really fight anyone like that because he's on probation and any sort of conflict like that would risk violation.

its not really like you're thinking in the way of "I live in a ghetto or shitty subdivision full of bad folks" its more like the whole area I'm in. The town itself and nearby cities. Some of the people around there are ignorant as shit and just as crazy if not more. You don't really have alot of shootings or violence like you'd see in detroit or something that you could run off of statistics its more like case by case. just stupid people in a reletively small town doing horrible shit. Like every year there are a handfull of big violent events you'll hear about. like a shootout with the cops or some drug execution or armed robbery but its not very consistant. Its like people just go stir crazy every once in awhile and something happens. I think more than anything its the attraction to the drug culture with the youth with no understanding or caution, low education, and alot of people around here are pretty poor. Plus the cops make it so much worse by being abusive/judgemental dickheads. Though thats getting better I think because we used to have the Santa Rosa County sherriff's dept running things but I think they've had their budgets cut tremendously and have been laid off or moved to other places and a city cop service has been put in their place. City cops are way cooler my friend says and I don't have them stalking my car everywhere I go like the asshole sherriffs do and I also don't see them pulling people over ALL OF THE TIME with speed traps and shit.

Now the stealing/crazy motherfucker with a gun. Thats just the kind of people my bro hangs out with. Its not like he does it on purpose its just that there are alot of people like that where I'm from and if you socialize at all and don't hang out with a bunch of bible thumpers you're bound to run into them. Which is why I don't keep too many friends where I'm from but I don't expect my family to be like that. Also thats the reason why I don't move. Its the place I grew up and my brothers are still there. I'm trying to stay put till they get to where they don't need me around anymore (they barely do now) and then maybe if I find a nice girl or some close friends that stay put I'll move somewhere else.

Here I think you can, actually. I know you can buy one of those huge ass sniper rifles like they had on the movie "shooter" and even semi automatic weapons like some submachine guns. I saw some uzis at a gun show I'm pretty sure. I forgot the limitations on firearms in this state but they're (not)suprisingly low.

I was going to post a one liner saying "you know where you are, boy?" but everyone else ruined it for me

fyi to nonamericans owning a gun isn't a bogus idea in the usa. it's part of our constitution, the founding principles of the country. it's drilled into our heads from elementary school on up

on the gross side some people will actually pride themselves in shooting and killing a burglar, knowing they did the right thing.

I own a small pistol and an old bolt-action rife.
Idk if it's really worth it, they're expensive and just sit locked up in my closet. I don't ever want to bring them anywhere except if I go hunting(almost never). Ive never understood wanting to carry in public, it just seems like adding a whole bunch of serious responsibility to my day that I'd rather not deal with.

Well I wanna practice my marksmanship mostly, I dunno if anyones seen that show "top shot" or whatever its called but its incredibly interesting even if you aren't a gun nut. I wanna be able to hit a q-tip from 200 ft away that would be awesome. Also I'd probably use it as often as I felt like because my dad owns that land out in the woods which is only about a half-hour away from my house.

also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGEd2Zi9fDs&feature=related

I can't hear or watch it all but I think thats the video of steven seagal on his show lawman which is like a cop show with him in Jefferson Parish New Orleans its hilarious because he talks about shooting with chi energy or some shit.

I also think that is disgusting but I also would probably (if I had to) shoot the dude in the leg or something so he walks with a limp or some deep muscular pain for the rest of his life so he can remember what happens when you do shit like that to other people. IMO taking another persons product of their livelihood is just as bad as doing that. But I guess you have to discern between someone being desperate and doing that to survive (not at all likely where I'm from and frequent) or somebody just being like I said a miserable asshole who either wants what you got or wants what you got to pawn it off for dope. The latter I would not mind putting a cap in and pretty much think those kinds of people need to get shot or beat up at some point in their lives if they're going to learn any valuable lessons at all.

If you got a firearm and you can legally use the damn thing then I don't see the point in using it if you're skillfull and smart enough to be able to disarm or hurt someone without taking their life with it. But there are alot of cops that can't even handle that so...I dunno.

Also even if I got a concealed carry permit I wouldn't carry the thing on me in person its kind of lame and you look like some conservative asswipe gun nut doing shit like that. I'd only have it incase I needed to use one in the open (which never really happen) or so I could leave it laying on the dash or something of my car if I was riding through a bad place and didn't want to have to take a minute or two to pull it out.

I own four guns. I like shooting for sport and enjoy the marksmanship aspect of it.

I have a Ruger GP100, Ruger Mini-14, Walther PP, and a Walther P22.

Shooting targets and beer cans is great fun, but honestly I think that carrying firearms for "self defense" is a bad idea. In an intense situation where resorting to a gun is theoretically an option, you are not going to be a calm, rational, skillful human being. You are going to be an excited, emotional, adrenaline-fueled one. A confrontation like that is dangerous and tense enough as-is; adding a gun to the mix not only makes it more volatile, but more dangerous.

You probably have this fantasy in your head where you are confronted by one or more assailants, and immediately and calmly draw your pistol in one smooth motion. You brandish at them, and if that doesn't outright scare them off, you shoot one in the leg as they try to approach you. The hit thug goes down while the other takes off on foot, and as your would-be-mugger writhes on the ground you dial 911 to summon the police.

Yeah, right.

What would probably happen is two or more thugs jump you, and before you know it they're in your face manhandling you into an alley. They know what they're doing and are in physical control of the situation to prevent you from resisting. Even if they didn't physically constrain you, do you really think the first thing you'll think of when confronted is to draw your weapon? When you finally think of reaching for it, the odds of you fumbling it, dropping it, or shooting yourself are pretty high in that situation. Even then, standing there with your gun in your hand confronting someone is nothing like being at the range. Allowing that you somehow manage to shoot and hit your target, you're likely to kill them (do you really want to kill someone over your personal property? Could you live with that over your head?) "Aim for the leg?" Do you think they're going to be standing still waiting for you to shoot at them or something? You watch too many movies.

Too much can go wrong.

If you're really concerned about personal protection, get a canister of pepper spray. It's non-lethal, safe, easy to use, cheap, concealable, and extremely effective. "Personal protection" is an excuse that wanna-be macho men tell themselves so they can carry a "gat" around and feel big about themselves. Don't be one of those guys.
