they just released the concept design for the the first section of the "reading viaduct park", tho not to the public. so far it does look pretty similar to the high line, but not as trendy and retaining more of the energy and feel of dilapidated industry. that section doesn't touch the part we're looking at, so hopefully we can get the people to snatch it up before it's claimed! we present to em on monday
I imagine one of the other places you're going to talk about is the Divine Lorraine, but what else ya got earl? I love this urban wasteland stuff and I'd like to learn more about areas like this in Philly. Except for north Philly of course, I KNOW ALL THERE IS TO KNOW about it. In fact I'm sure I can dig up some pictures of various abandoned houses in the area from when I lived there. I might also have some pictures of a derelict warehouse on (or around) 6th and Jefferson that some friends and I checked out last year.
yeah, it is! I haven't been in there myself, I don't really know how, but I was gonna put up some other people's pictures and some history. for the other places, I was gonna do a joint post of the building I live in on the border of Germantown, and the ruins of a house in the woods nearby (SALEM). there are other places I know of, but haven't been to and don't know much about. there used to be some cool stuff along ridge above girard, but that's, as you know, near some of the worst slums of the entire east coast, and they've been tearing down vacant buildings left and right there. also maybe the eastern state penitentiary, obviously that's a tourist destination but it's still really interesting/everyone should go there if they ever get a chance (steve buscemi narrates the tour)
throw up them pictures, I don't want to exclude any wasteland from getting its moment of glory itt
