What is your favourite moment of the games so far?

I loved the opening ceremony for sure, but my best event so far was the team Archery
It literally couldn't have been closer, with the Italuan team winning by one point and ON THE LINE. I was hoping for an Italian victory (go team EU!), but both teams deserved the win at the end.

The South Korean and Mexican teams were also impressive.

Ps: people on the DM forums are saying the opening ceremony was an example of 'Kultural Marxism' lol. Oh you crazy guys!

I've never actually sat down and watched any Olympic event, ever. The entire thing fetishizes athletes as proxies for national pride, as if that were ever a good thing. Plus it's boring.

Not paying attention to it really, I watched the opening and really enjoyed the like 20 minutes of music by Mike Oldfield during the NHS bit.

Though a friend from uni is taking part in the paraolympics opening ceremony.

And a close friend of the family carried the torch for a bit.

It was a spectacular waste of money which could have been spent on better/more important things. But like I said, Mike Oldfield <3

A dude on facebook who believes the olympics is some zionist conspiracy(2012 logo looks like ZION when read in two columns!!!!11) posted the day after, something like "It started with them singing Jerusalem and ended with HEY JUDE, I think WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, Eh?" and stuff like "Enjoy your zionist paramilitary games"

Because, y'know, William Blake and John Lennon were key figures in the illuminati

i mean for the record you can have a big scale sporting event without wasting as much money as the olympics does

does it not bring in far more money than is spent? and would the money have been spent at all, if it wasn't for the olympics and the promise of getting it back? well, I don't really care, it's just the last time I saw that argument it was the Canadian guy who photoshopped a pedobear into a pic of the 2010 winter games mascots, as part of a statement about the "waste of money" for the games that took govt subsidies away from "artists" (need more ppl who can drop 4chan memes about pedophilia into pics)

my fav part of the games is remembering shepperd criticizing the community because "no one here likes sport". where'd ya go shepperd

Yes, considering that our government plan to improve our economy seems to be I HOPE OLYMPICS DOES WELL, I don't see the harm in the spending. I mean, a lot of money that has been spent has provided jobs for people.

Ps: IT LOOKS LIKE SHEPPERD WAS RIGHT. Way to douche a discussion about your favourite part of the Olympics up by talkins about MONEYS everyone!  Well except for Belross and his "no bad stop" approach.

Maybe only geo and I have watched any events?!?

i already exhausted myself talking about how reprehensible various aspects are, including the opening ceremony, i think this was the correct approach because now i can watch japan be the best soccer team

Not only that Faust, but there's a female boxer from Ireland that some fight commentators have described as maybe the best female boxer ever, so that'd be cool to watch unfold at the very first Olympic Woman's Boxing event!

My favourite part of the Olympics is A. That Canada's goal was to come in 11th (we aim high in Canada) and we're currently in 30th with 3 bronzes, and that the host country is also getting its ass beat haha.

so you're saying the categories should be combined

this is the first year with women boxers

bear in mind that i'm also in favour of stripping out the national teams and having people compete as individual athletes so understand that i'm speaking of an ideal situation. there are attendant problems with both of these approaches

Doesn't that kind of defeat the point of the olympics? I mean isn't it all about nations competing? Otherwise it'd just be a bunch of separate events all smashed together. I'm not trying to defend nationalism or anything but the Olympics seem like the least terrible of all sporting events, and they only happen every 4/8 years anyway. Also sure the games cost a lot, but the billions spent in football/baseball player salaries is more offensive to me just in general.

However this year I seem to be less interested in them than I've ever been. I've never cared that much but I enjoyed watching events here and there. I don't have cable and I haven't been able to find a decent stream, just recaps and stuff like that. Meh, olympics...
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

my opinion on that is we lads shouldn't get to decide on that.
