decided to make a game anyway.  twine again. it's only tangentially related to the topic, but close enough that i'm not worried about it.

and yes, it involves cannibalism. so everyone can start getting really excited again.

im very excited to play that.

thanks!

almost finished with the first minigame, nearly bug free but it still has some kinks to work out. only two more to go, and almost all my backgrounds are finished. need to work on character sprites tomorrow...

man I'm kind of glad that this was extended, that means I'll definetly have time to program ambient butterflies/bowling pins into the game(the screen with the building should have that by the end of the contest)
and holy shit what was i thinking-

ok so i actually made a game for this. i'm late, since the deadline for this was half an hour ago, but seeing as how there's been a notable lack of entries for this, i figure it doesn't really matter. i spent all day finishing this just to get it off my plate.

it's bullshit twine again, so just click the link and enjoy, no downloading. plays in your browser!!! i am so accommodating!!!!

Those summer fields

i took the theme and turned it into cannibalism, which i then turned into the donner party. also it's CREATIVE NONFICTION, which adds an extra layer of BULLSHIT PRETENSION to what is otherwise an already nuisance story.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I had to work all weekend and barely got anything done so... my games not finished yet sadface
but I'm close. All my background graphics but two are done, I've got almost all my character sprites done, and the soundtrack is finished... just have to code it all and make sure it's working properly. note to self- only make games with mouse interfaces in ags from now on. sorry I couldn't have this done by today guys(especially you denzquix[thanks ][/thanks], what a disappointment!). but this is coming out soon, i swear. then I'll play everyone elses entries!

it looks like he's worked REALLY hard on it, so i might as well give him some time to put their game into the jam. i know you've all worked REALLY hard on your games, too. i would hate to see all the work go to waste.

awww man, thanks you guys! almost allllll of my graphics are done, soundtracks done and even uploaded to bandcamp, sound effects are almost done, but what's really holding me up is programming. but not so much as the game is almost finished a whole. here's some shit I'm working on now for the final minigame:

thanks so much though for all the kind words! i don't know what i'll do, but i want to do something special for all you cool dudes.

too cool for school eh...this was good! even if you had a distaste on the dramatic parts, i think it's a good achievement if you can calm me (you? who? mysterious way of english) down and make me become enthuastic/interested to see what happens in the story (like the written part of the game BECOMES the focus naturally). idk it's like instead of having this inner critic having a blast on everything you see, you instead become absorbed into the game/like you let your imagination run free/imagine how it must feel to be there or the guy or figure out his story etc. i was genuively moved but not in the sense of screaming drama and getting caught in the grandeour events/lesson of the game (i didn't even necessarily agree with the theme/it's take on life) but it made me thoughtful/made me think of it or things a lot. i liked that feeling. it could borderline on dramatic/predeterminism/familiar story taking place but thankfully it's whole lot better than that, i think that was a suspicion i had at the beginning.
yeah i guess i mean that it IS well written even if it's sort of a familiar theme but you made it alive/genuively lifelike groan how do you say this? i would imagine that thoughts like that would happen in your head at that place/moment. I liked that the tone changed slightly but wholly depending on what choice you did, kinda making you favoure one narrative over another (which is interesting, mumble mumble...)

It's like an genuively interesting exploration on how to take a fall or finding a narrative/inner story in situation or something. idk i became interested in this vehicle, this form of storytelling and i did lots of playing/threw ideas in my head, i have an idea... but making something like that would require a lot of "groundwork" so to speak. i liked another part at the end of the game relating to choices but i can't say it here without major spoilers. idk i also liked the space you created with just WORDS alone, like physical places. i guess i don't read much literature so maybe you can shit on my opinion but there was nothing that screamed on me ugh like hugely descriptive or forcing the envinroment to serve the narrative strictly or something. fuck dissecting words is hard!!!!!!!!

i just liked a lot of small things in it. i liked the story. i liked the...construction of reality, the space given to picturing/imagination, the things that were not said. man i wish i was better at this, i can't bring myself to make a really good summary/bottom-line of this but i'm not doing this out of "service" or whatever. i wish i could like make this sort of game/narrative work with eg doing my daily life but i realize it must be hard to write this stuff.

HOW DO WRITERS TOLERATE IT, ITS JUST BARE WORDS GRINDING AGAINST YOUR VERY NAKED WORLD/NARRATIVE/LIFE jesus. aaaa im getting inspired/excited again, my mind is...like i can feel phyusically where the weight in my mind is. fucking damn not now. musician desperately looks where ha can insert ANY kind of familiar chord progression or jazzy chord in it, alas the wind howls......i need to check that site!!!! got me interested groaannnn. aaaaaa.

EDIT i actually really liked the game! damn... i feel more about it as more time passes/like i like how... i like the strong points okay i can't explain it further. fuhrer. gulp... i won't gloat anymore...

--

also sok, that looks ridicilously good. i love the hippie carrot/liek this sort of strange mishmash of clearly-sierra/adventure game sprites but somehow swimming/fusionign with other game genres. this sort of cartoony/viewtiful joe (aaa i really hate to bring comparisons these days in general) meet day of the tentacle but i don't get like a STIFF FEELING of the game, again you get this sort of flashback/image of promises within those esthetics or screens. i hope you can finish it! i like how you selfisshly kinda pioneer any kind of game (like you get this feeling that holy shit this guy might like old AGS games but he's fucking throwing that vague style on any kind of game or narrative or anything. it looks so fucking good holy shit.) this your own world of how life/esthetics is portrayed than HERE'S MY COOL STYLE. just this raw explosion on nerves!! haha i exaggarate but it's hard to explain, it's bit like how i would compare ragnar's stuff to venetian snares but he could just do that style/take/his own world on any kind of music because there's no social other to please or to scream LOOK AT MY STYLE. LOOK AT HOW PRETTY IT IS. BECOME IMPRESSED.
man i'm going overboard... bonzi throws himself over the boat fence & vomits slowly a 90's 3d vomit in a 90's gif animation.

EDIT please forgive me for comparisons. burn all comparisons in hell. i deserve no better *to everyones astonishment bonzi threws himself into the raging flames*

(i didn't even necessarily agree with the theme/it's take on life)
you know, i don't know if i do either. i literally just took my reading of the guy's poem and tried to figure out what was going through his head at the very end*, with pretty much everything outside of the cruddy dialogue pulled from factual information i gathered from this site(and even some of the dialogue was factual[see: ][/see:]). idk if it's complete bullshit that i can kinda pretend to be impartial about something as weighty as the point of it though????? i mean i DID write the goddamn thing, i should have that level of basic literary self-control right??

RIGHT??!?!

RIGHT???!?!??!?!

*which, ironically, was cut somewhat short because i was trying to meet the deadline and got insanely hungry because i decided i wasn't going to eat until i finished. thought it'd help me RELATE to the woes of a man starving to death but it just made the ending shitty.
