It's kinda hard to think of a new name for this place because it's just that. a place online to talk about pokemonand marxism. There's no distinct focus to really draw upon, and we all have different views about whatever so there's little in the way of unification that can be drawn upon. I'm not obsessed with gaming, so it's kinda odd to mention belonging to a site about video games. something bizarre like saltw is more my cup of tea. But then again it hasn't come up in offline conversation since I was like 16 anyways,so like, that makes this post kinda pointless.

about the original polls, the option people voted for was actually "salt world" but when the move happened we found the
url to be salt w for some reason.

pretty much my thoughts. i understand what you mean konix but we are certainly going to attract certain type of people here that way (which can be okay?? for some, but i dont really care about filling the forum ENTIRELY of hiveminded dumbtopic stuff, i still miss the diversity eg washcycle posting iranian classical music and politics) and besides, i kinda feel like that we have an opportunity here to do "our own thing"/just do the opposite and make a broken/absurd name work out for the community itself. you could argue that there's no good cases of that happening anywhere in internet (at least in popular sites) but i'd argue it's just the lack of anecdotes than the lack of chance to prosper whatsoever. 
otherwise we could had just done what drule planned ages ago and just turn this into INDIE GAMES, GLITCH GAMES, COME HERE IF YE ARE A ARTIST GAMER DILITANTE... and i don't mean this to diss gods17 maroonraccoon or everyone! but even that topic came about dynamically and i would imagine that at some point the interest for "just" dumb topic type of graphic + text representation of artifacts MIGHT die out... then we'd probably have a new thing going on! cos that's how people and interests are.
idk i don't think i'm even necessarily disagreeing with you but instead trying to illuminate our side in this debate. i still think the meaningless name rules (less ego-atachment on a title) but i agree that we should at least wait out until we are finalizing/getting the front site out!

that's a larger debate on whether people should "know" what the forum is about from title or acronym but just throwin out that lot of people think gamingw or gw is this certain place from years ago (which it isn't anymore in any way) and we still get some rpg maker dudes reminscing the past/asking that where have all the resources disapeared into + velfarre's point about how gw had a notoriety of being a shitty place (maybe not a common view?? i hope). 

EDIT i get a feeling that i'm taking a long, big shit on your intentions though and maybe im not listening hard enough so back to point Mainsite, let's talk this out/figure this out once we're thinking of content for the mainsite?

yeah i agree with bonzi_buddy.
i like some of the ideas for other names, such as backronyms for GW and also the new name suggestions which involve the words whahay, glitch, or targ. buuut as of now i don't think we need to do some big formal name change, like warped has suggested. this place is salt world right now. and i like salt world. i don't think the name is tying anyone down here and if you have a problem with being part of a place called salt world, that's your own business. i've mentioned salt world before to other people and yeah i usually say something like "it's kind of a weird name"/"it's not actually a place about salt"/etc... but i don't mind any of that because i know what salt world is, and anyone else can easily judge for themselves what kind of place we have here, regardless of the name.
but yes, we want to move forward here and create a place that draws cool new members and encourages creativity. and so a name change might be something we consider more seriously in the future. but for now, let's focus on more important things, like creating new content, organizing the forums, and starting interesting new discussions.

I like the current name, if for no other reason than my own personal bias towards salt itself.
 
In the sense that with anything I consume, I can never have too much salt to put on it. (It is obscure, but a very good metaphor for what this place represents in my heart)
 
(In case some of you were wondering: The answer is yes. I will most likely die from salt poisoning someday.)
