Talk about what you are currently playing, or discuss the games that other people talk about here. :wily:

Lately, I've been playing through Dragon Quest VIII. I played it a shit ton years ago and it's been fun revisiting. Love the orchestral soundtrack and the voice acting / graphical style has aged pretty well compared to other games of its era. It's been a lot of fun exploring the world and hunting Metal Slimes. I'd say compared to the other DQ games the story in this one is one of my favorites. I'm just getting to the point where you unlock the casino minigame and I remember spending hours on that damn place the last time I played it. I'm surprised this game has never had a re-release beyond on the 3DS and mobile because it's a really solid game that could just use some minor quality of life things. I've heard they added some new stuff to the 3DS in terms of content so might end up playing that some day.

On the 3DS, I've been playing Chrono Trigger for the DS. Want to try to get through it to check out the extra content at the end of the game.

Besides that, I replay my same damn dark souls games for the millionth time.

Been playing Baldur's Gate 3 most recently, my wife and I started a splitscreen playthrough a few weeks ago so we've been working our way through that when we have the time. It's a pretty consistently astonishing game, really impressive to play.

Beyond that I've got a significant backlog of indies to play through, and next on the list there is Before the Green Moon.

I've also been playing through Baldur's Gate 3 and made my character run around fighting people naked wearing only a cape and a pointy hat. And then I got slaughtered so decided that wearing armor was prolly a good idea. Did fairly well in combat after that with the exception of a particularly bad Owlbear encounter. My partner has played a bit more than I have and she told me that she has seen things during our playthrough that she didn't see during hers so it's nice that there's a lot of paths that you can take which will make new playthroughs more interesting.

I'm at almost 80 hours in Dragon Quest 8, and I have a feeling that I'm only about halfway through it. Been spending a lot of time hunting metal slimes and leveling up my part. Trying to get to level 50 before the next boss fight since I was struggling with it a bit.

Been playing since PT1 , but me n few IRL friends and cousins play this game called Dark&Darker.
It's J.R.R.Tarkov 1000% but its a great laugh both solo and with a group of 3 fuckwads . Duos are a bit unbalanced atm.

I just bought a beefy new PC gaming rig and I got really into Cyberpunk 2077 for a while. It's a pretty awesome game now with all the patches and improvements over the last few years.

Then I got sucked into BG3, played for about 60 hours but haven't quite finished my campaign yet, I gotta get on that.

THEN I started a new Factorio run because I wanted to 100% all the achievements, so I spent 50+ hours on that...

Sometimes when I'm craving some multiplayer action I play Ultimate Chicken Horse online.

All this time I've been trying to move into my new house and gaming has been a rather unproductive distraction, but I can only spend so many hours on house projects and packing.

Right now I'm splitting time between Sonic Superstars and Link's Awakening for Switch, I love both games. Sonic Superstars feels like a proper Sonic game, much like Sonic Mania, and I love how it uses the classic Bigisland Sonic designs. The added powers for each Chaos Emerald are cool, and the physics and momentum of Sonic feels like the original Genesis games. As for Link's Awakening, it's great. I always preferred the cutesy elf Link from Link to the Past over the more darker and more serious entries, but I love those too. It looks beautiful as well. I love the fact that I live in 2024 and am still able to play new games that feel like retro games.

Me and my other half are playing Satisfactory which is similar to Factorio but with more immersion and exploration. We have a dedicated server setup and the factory still runs while we are logged off.

I found with Factorio I was having nightmares because my brain would not stop thinking about it, but with Satisfactory I don't get those and I find it way more chill.

Here's a recent aerial photo of the main area of our factory:

I still haven't updated systems since PS2 and I have my old saves of DQVIII, I got a little further but I wish the PS2 version let you do a quick save like Dragon Warrior III for GBC. Like, you won't respawn from that point but it will make a save at that point and erase it when you restart. I heard the 3DS version has that

Edit: I do have a fairly nice laptop so I still have some PC games, and I've got an Anbernic RG something-or-other that plays up to PS1

That would be a nice feature to have, it's quite a pain in the ass to have to trek all the way back to visit the POPE just to save your game. I feel that they streamlined things a bit more in Dragon Quest XI but I think it could be taken a step further.

my partner and i put hundreds of hours into Baldur's Gate 3 and finally beat it recently. truly an amazing game! going to do another run (an evil one) in a year or so, presumably when a "definitive edition" comes out. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth came out today, so we've been playing that. i was never into FF games growing up (kept starting and quitting cuz they weren't holding my interest), so i was kinda surprised how much i enjoyed watching him play the first part of the remake several years ago, especially after watching him play FFX (his favorite) and unfortunately not loving it. i guess i find FFVII's urban setting and environmental themes more compelling than the more classic medieval fantasy type games. anyway, part 2 seems good so far!
semper games.

I started playing FF7 Rebirth and the Persona 3 remake recently. I'm enjoying Persona 3 a bit more but that's because I'm a sucker for turn-based RPGS. :P

Most of my playtime is spent on the Japanese servers of Fate/Grand Order and Princess Connect! Re:Dive these days, also some Fire Emblem Heroes too.

If anyone also plays them and wants to add me as a friend, feel free to ask and I'll share my IDs.

Got around to beating Persona 3 remake, really enjoyed it. Don't know if I am going to bother with the DLC or not.

Playing through Elden Ring again to make a character ready for Shadows of the Erdtree. I have beat the game but never beat all of the bosses (I know I am missing at least two, and one of them is Mohg).

I believe this game was on XBOX Live Indie Games back in the day, but it was recently re-released on Steam so that people can play it.

Fun collection of surrealist small gameplay experiences and probably the most Gaming Worldy thing on Steam.

A lot of Palworld, ultrakill and world of warcraft: season of discovery.

Palworld
Pokemon but better and with some new mechanics that make it actually fun and not just a dopemine grindfest.

Ultrakill
It really is a game beyond my ability to describe. Take a first person shooter like say, DooM 95, make it low poly 3D, then add the style system from DMC and the ability to flip and shoot coins into your enemies Rufus Shinra style.
v
Also its based in the lore of Dante's inferno.

World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery
I already made a 28 minute long video about this, but here's a fun clip of me questing at level 50 in Phase 3.
Live for only you, live with pride.

Been playing Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup again. I decided to give the "felid" race a try and it's really amusing to play as a cat mage. Cats are surprisingly powerful spell casters.

If you haven't played it yet, go check it out because it's free!!

I am not good gamer. I just play random itch.io demos that only last 30 seconds and I got Donut County but I can't even finish that.

Also got a cheap Chinese PS2 controller because my official one broke and also a replacement ps1 memory card and was playing Tail of the Sun, which is a pretty funky game.

Also have been playing through Earthbound Randomizer on the Anbernic, have like 80 different permutations of it as ROMs. Beat one instance of Ancient Cave so far

I like more EXPERIENCES these days. Hence I play nearly every decent LSD Dream Emulator knockoff that they do for LSDJAM on itch

I also had Alien Hominid for PS2 so I played a little of that, but it's too insanely hard for me. I only got to level 2

I think when I got older I realized I liked the music the best out of all components of game, so I kind of concentrated on making that instead of making entire games. My first batch of tracks were stuff I had as ideas for an Earthbound style game, but then eventually it got more like actual songs sort of

That and I read a lot now because I realized RPGs don't really have that much text in the scheme of things, whether it's because of memory constraints or just attention span nowadays. But yeah books are interesting because it's like you make the graphics in your head and it goes a lot more in depth into dialogue and descriptions of things

But um I looked through all like 11,000 itch.io games tagged 'relaxing' for the ones that interested me by the thumbnail or whatever. A lot of them are very incomplete though. I'd say the most complete ones are the text adventures which unfortunately do not interest me

My PS2 controllers were malfunctioning so I bought an 8bitdo Bluetooth Retro Receiver and it works pretty great with most of the bluetooth controllers I've tried of it so far.

Video games that at least have a decent soundtrack can make me overlook other aspects as long as the gameplay / etc isn't too terrible. I would argue that Chrono Cross is not one of the greatest games I've ever played but the soundtrack on that game keeps me coming back to it.

Never really got around to playing that game, I played League of Legends for a couple years a long time ago but that's my main experience with that type of game.
