Yeah ok but Charizard / Ivysaur / Squirtle > Sonic or Megaman, and that's who you're actually playing as, so yeah!

I hate to be a bad-news-betsy, but if Amazon's Brawl boxart is accurate, Sonic is probably not in the game.
I think we can all agree that Sonic is a big enough character to make it onto the box, especially for marketing purposes. That said, either the boxart being used for preoders is temporary, sonic is not in the game, or sonic is a hidden character.
I highly doubt Sonic is a hidden character, as much as I doubt Sonic would be included without being on the cover, but god almighty let's hope.

They don't put unlockable characters on the box art though, nor is the box art official. If Sonic is in the game, my guess is he'd be unlockable.

And another thing about the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics thing. I think it increases his chances of being in Brawl in anything, for two reasons. More people are going to buy Brawl than MaSatO. That's a fact. So if Nintendo wanted to increase their sales of MaSatO, adding Sonic would be a pretty good idea. People play Brawl, they see Sonic, they see that he's in MaSatO, and they decide to buy that. Kind of like how I'm going to buy FE: Path of Radiance and the Wii FE title just because of Ike. They've done this same kind of thing before with Roy to boost sales of the FE game he was in. They could do the same with Sonic for MaSatO.

Yeah, actually, I'm pretty sure that they've already stated that any characters that don't belong to Nintendo would be unlockable if they appeared.

If I understand you, you're saying that Sonic in Brawl is advertising for Sonic so more people will be interested in MaSatO - and that is analogous to FE characters in Melee.

But the difference is that FE was unknown, Sonic is known.  People already know who Sonic is and people have long fantasized about seeing him fight Mario in a game.  So if it happens in Brawl, no one will care about MaSatO.

Also, if they're going to promote that Sonic is in the game, or even announce it, basic marketing knowledge implies the importance of him being on the cover.

Also, I'm going to put my bets on the idea that this is a temporary image. Turns out Mario Galaxy and a few other games were using temp. official images too. I don't know anything about the subject, but I'm assuming this is a common, to allow the developers more time on boxart while preorders can begin.

Roy was featured in Melee since FE: Sword of Seals (featuring Roy as the main character) was going to be released soon in Japan, where FE is known as Nintendo's Strategy RPG franchise. FE was only unknown to western players.

DK, Bowser, Snake, Zelda, or Diddy Kong aren't big enough characters that would sell more of the game if they were on the box. If Sonic is in the game, not putting him on the box would be a huge mistake, just because so many people will randomly see the box and say "ooohhh Sonic is in it? I'll buy it."

They were on the Melee box fyi (well, aside from the newcomers).

Actually it IS Ash/Red but he doesn't have a name since you can name him yourself in the games. It's the character from FireRed/LeafGreen.

Hmm, about the online aspect of the game. I don't think it will fare well what with lag and all, especially when timing has to be precise.

Then don't lag.

It'll be fine. And either way, it's better than playing a computer when you're alone and bored.

.?LagOff, there's always going to be some lag that'll throw off the game.

Thats an issue with ANY fighting game (moreso actually due to smash's more simplistic fighting engine) you just learn to work through it, and minor lag doesn't effect the game very much at all.

I played a game of Strikers online a few days ago, and it was very, very laggy.  I'm not sure if it was because I was using WiFi or what, but it was not pleasant.  Either way, I kicked that 4 year olds ass, but if that's the same for Brawl, I will stick to offline only.
