Holy shit. Wow. All of those Lucas fans on smashboards have got to be happy about this. I've never played Mother 3, but Lucas looks pretty cool. I was never a big fan of Ness, but new characters are always awesome. And Pasty, you're probably right about the U.S. release of Mother 3 as well.

Do you guys think this means Ness is gone? I'd say no just because of the last thing Sakurai said. And the fact that he's a vet.

If Lucas is replacing Ness, he had damn well better have the best move in the game: PK Thunder.

2 characters for such a small series seems too much for me. I'll probably end up the only person that doesn't like Lucas.

Just found something out. On the Japanese Melee site, they said that Ness was supposed to be replaced by Lucas but he wasn't because Melee came out before Mother 3. Now that Mother 3 is out, do you think they'll drop him like they originally planned?

Now that I think about it, he may be gone. Two characters from the same small series does seem like too much, especially since they have similar moves/fighting styles.

I would have assumed Ness is still included, based on the update, but I hope that's not the case.
Sakurai specifically named Ness in the update, whereas, if I were replacing a veteran character, I probably wouldn't flaunt it.

Lucas' Final Smash: PK LOVE

Which US released FE game were Marth and/or Roy in?

None. Marth was in FE1 and 3, while Roy was in FE6. None of these games had a US release. So yeah, they technically introduced the Fire Emblem series in SSBM.

With Lucas appearing in Brawl, does this mean the Masked Man will also appear? Or will they just stick to Lucas and maybe even Ness? I mean, Lucas has at least SOME potential to NOT become a clone (read: other PSI spells to choose from, like PK Frost or PK).

I wish I could be happy about this character, but until Ness is also confirmed then I will just be worrying about it.

The first thing I thought when I saw this update (aside from laughing) is that Marcus would be pleased.

Anyway, a new character update and still people are complaining about it being a boring update? Jesus.

People complain about the update because they don't care much for Lucas and this just means there won't be a new character update for a while. And yeah, I thought about Marcus as soon as I saw this also. Too bad he doesn't play smash.

The way I saw that quote was along the lines of "can he beat Ness," meaning "Ness will be making an appearance, but can Lucas beat him?"

Wahahaha. I said it'd be Lucas rather than Ness this time! This is wonderful news.

For one thing, it means that Lucas is going to be getting extra attention, which will make NoA have to give more serious thought to bringing Mother 3 over. Lucas could do for Mother 3 what Marth and Roy did for Fire Emblem!

And I expect he'll play the same as Ness anyway. The screenshots of him already show him using what looks like PK Fire, PSI Magnet and what might be part of PK Thunder. If those *are* his moves, I wouldn't expect Ness to show up just because we already know about the new no-clone policy.

It wouldn't be hard to make Ness an alternate costume for Lucas, though. All you'd have to do is darken his hair and put him in a hat, really.

Is anyone familiar enough with Mother 3 to describe some abilities of Lucas that are different than Ness?
