Also, Any tips on Sentry Gun placement for the 10 kills via 1 sentry achievement?

It's all about finding a unique spot that has little weaknesses, but open range of fire, and being against a stubborn opponent. Today I got lucky on... Dustbowl? I was attacking, and I think it was the second set, where you run out, and there is that big building that you can enter, or you can climb up via crates, and the capture point is on the upper level of the building. Then past it there is another building with 1 entrance, with metal and a medkit. I build the sentry just a little past the door of that building, making sure it was facing the enemy exits. Then I built the dispenser in the door way, and it was close enogh to the sentry that I could hit it, while me and the dispenser being completely safe from enemy rockets or stickies. Only way they managed to destroy it was sapping and ubering. It also helps if you have a pyro and another engineer nearby watching your back. You want to strategically place both sentries so that they have their own unique attacking position, but they also watch eachothers weak point.

Yeah, I'm gonna stop here before this becomes on essay on strategic sentry positioning.

i got my 10kills on a 2fort against a very dumb team that consisted of lone spies and scouts. haha.

Yeah, the upstairs area of 2fort right by the spawn point (the bit that leads to either the battlements or either path to intel) is a decent spot. Every single attack has to pass that sentry in some form if you position it right and it's fairly easy to keep it healed as long as you play offensively and run out and shotgun/pistol any demomen. All the scout rushes etc will just fail to it so in a big team it racks up kills fast.

edit: in that spot I have gotten 32 kills without dying (+many many more including dying but the sentry not). this includes running out to kill people before they whack it with nades

Well, I have all character specific achievements now.

I got the sentry one, by building it under the bridge in Dustbowl by the second capture point.  It ended up getting 12 or so before getting destroyed, and it was in the open.

I forget where I got the Pyro one, but I remember dropping in on a group of soldiers and demos(literally jumping down into a group)...  about 10 of them ran away on fire.  Mmm...  extra crispy.

play soldier. They're easier to get kills with. That or just develop your skills more.
Born from what we call, "stars", our bodies materialize to what you can see physically. But what we do really hide is something no living organism comprehends.

I have problems with the soldier, scout and demo class (kill wise)  If you want kills, play as Heavy, and team up with a medic.   If you want really easy kills, and long "innings" play as engineer on a CP map, and build a dispenser near a chokepoint, run base to the weapons shed, build a turret(sentry gun), run back to weapons shed again, and start upgrading your turret (smack it with your wrench).  Now, stay there, crouching and continually smack your turret with your wrench.

Also Sarevok, Jester, whoever else I played with today...  I fixed my mic...  the switch was in the "Mute" position (it's labeled backwards so it looked like it was in the "On" position.)

Hopefully you guys will be on tomorrow...  Halfway to Hardcore achievement too

Well you could play soldier because opposed to other classes its actually harder to die with him than it is to get kills with him, but playing such a easymode class wont really help you develop any playing skills whatsoever because you dont need to worry about surviving nor aiming due to how ridiculously overpowered the class is.

rofl, overpowered? soldier sucks, man. yeah its easy to aim but you get four shots. if someone is running at you and you miss twice (easy if its a scout or pyro or something) then you will die.

I really cant think of any other class that would have so many perks and so few cons. Also I dont really see how you miss a pyro, if he comes too close with his flamer you just shoot at your legs and the pyro dies before you do

- bullets can fire long distances. seriously just because he can get anywhere doesnt mean he can stay there? if this was arguments for an engineer id understand it
- so? seriously so what if they can "get anywhere" theyre still gonna get shot
- yeah they are supposed to be tanks
- ya
- ok
- they crit about as much as anything else for me. crits are based on how well you are playing, so
- yeah the splash is kinda lame but they are rockets, what do you expect? i still manage to avoid a lot just by JUMPING (wait... he isnt touching the ground what am i supposed to do)
- haha, this very rarely happens unless you run into a barrage of soldiers and turrets but its awesome when it does. you can get.. anywhere (and thats a game balancing issue apparently)
- yeah but they are slow as shit if you get hit by 3 of them you deserve to die
- everyone else nearly has this as a secondary weapon

Nothing in TF2 is overpowered, except maybe a HWGuy and Medic, but even then if they aren't ubered then you just kill the medic first. Plus that's two players working together, not just one class.

That's probably the most impressive thing about TF2 really, the fact that every class is really pretty balanced and can fill different roles quite well. It can be sort of tough to balance NINE different classes against each other, especially with the different game types and maps, but I'd say they did a really good job.

Yeah the soldier can seem really overpowered and cheap when they are just lobbing rockets at a cluster of enemies and get a few lucky criticals, but on the flipside, if a scout or pyro gets in close they are so slow and the rocket launcher is pretty dangerous at close range (to your enemy and to you) so it can be REALLY easy to die.

The thing about this game, is every class is overpowered, so it balances out. I could probably come up with just as big of a list with cons for every class, with only a few negatives.

The point is that a lot of maps have paths and spots which give advantages to whoever can access them, most of the time this means soldier, scout and demo and in some occasions engineer.

For instance in Gravel Pit the roof of control point B is a REALLY good spot to be in for both offence and defense. Its hard to see into the roof and there's a lot of shelter if someone starts to harrass you. Also the little hole there is a really good spot to spam missiles and bombs from to destroy sentries or to clear the room.

Another instance would be Jailbreak, although this isn't the best of maps and its a custom map its still pretty played, and here you have this ventilation shaft which is too high to reach without the highjump classes or if you dont have precise 100% jumps so you can bug abuse yourself in there.

Rocketjumping also, offcourse, gives a faster access to some places where you would normally have to walk through a certain path, for example the Gravel Pit tower or numerous places in Dustbowl.

soldiers are the newbie class and if all you care about is kills going up engineer is the class to play.

other than spies tho most classes are balanced if you play as a team (except demo who is nuts good)

I just played a crazy game against some fucking glitch abusers. It was gravel pit and I was worried at first because fucking 2 against 8 and I am on the 2 side. POINT B first, nobody there, hooray. POINT A next, nobody there hooray. I get to point C and there are 8 fucking demomen running around IN THE FUCKING SKY spamming pipe bombs down on us.

1) They are in the sky and have VANTAGE POINT or whatever
2) They are wide fucking open.

So we clear out all 8 of them and then win the game hooray it was really dumb. But more importantly how the fuck did they get into the sky?
now is the winter of our discontent

sorry but this is wrong, like i said sare got up there and you can just go behind and shoot him. i did it as a SPY, if i went demo or something it would have been even easier.

and no, like i said, it doesnt matter where you get, you are still just as easy to kill. if you are behind cover, not only can you not get shot but you cannot shoot things yourself, so you are basically useless.
