I'd want it to be after SFIII as well. Ryu has been almost the same exact character in every game he's been in. Since Ryu became Oro's student in the storyline of SFIII it would be really great to see a NEW version of Ryu.

And this game had BETTER have Dan in it. Dan is my fav SF character.

Didn't Sean take Dan's place in SFIII? Since he was suppose to replace Ryu and Ken...but that got scrapped since Ryu and Ken did make it in the game.

Dan was an intentional joke character. Sean just kept getting the strength of his moves reduced with each iteration of SF3 until he became rubbish accidently.

Sean was pretty much top tier in sf3:ng and sf3:2i, so they nerfed him in 3s but well... WAY TOO MUCH. He used to be militant black guy, now he's just a queer.

I started playing SF2: Turbo a while back, pretty recently though, and this is cool. I've seen the trailer before and it's still really cool, but I don't have a PS3...

Nope....

Although on that same day (October 17), Capcom announced a PS3 version of Lost Planet, so that could have been what they were talking about when they said to wait a week.

This.

I think parries are alright but imo just defend is a much better system, and it appeals more to the casual crowd.

There are more faults with JD than Parry, though yeah it is more casual, both JD and Parry have more-or-less the same problem.

Naw, JD is a much better system imho because there's more incentive to use it (life regeneration), you don't get a massive frame advantage unless you Guard Cancel, and you can only guard cancel with specials and supers meaning unless you counter-hit with a break attack or set up a harder juggle like Gato's qcb+K shit, you won't get any lengthier combo's through. Makes for much more interesting matches since the players aren't afraid to get their ass parried by everything that isn't an lk/lp/c.mk

What exactly are the faults with the parry system? Not arguing, genuinely interested.

without giving you a couple paragraphs:
-gives the same powerful system to every character, which in a way, discourges diversity
-reduces the effectiveness of so much stuff it isn't funny
-lets you get away with some stuff (like jumping in if you can air parry/jd) but prevents you from doing a thousand more things for every 1 thing it lets you get away with

in the case of just defend:
-all of the above plus its too casual friendly, you can spam back after the 1st one and auto JD everything
-wayyyy too strong at times, giving you life gives you more of an incentive to do it, which means you're going to try to JD more things than you would parry, you don't really want to parry anything in 3s unless if you know you're gonna parry it (jump-in/fireball) or if you're gonna die anyways (chip)
-too easy on frames you have to do it.

i'm not saying that they're bad systems, they are different, but they do change the gameplay in ways that really detract from the simplicity of it all, which is something Capcom needs to embrace right now, is simplicity. Simple = more people gonna buy it, and espically with casual gamers being fuck all everywhere, this is plus.

fuck i wound up writing a paragraph anyways.

SF IV Info:

-Producer is Yoshinori Ono, who worked on SF Alpha, SF III, and oversaw Capcom Fighting Revolution

-Ono wants it to be the "second coming" of SF II. Wants it to feel like "homecoming" for SF II fans.

-Online play is planned with potential for microtransactions such as new characters and stages

-The look is not really similiar to the teaser trailer. A "cartoon-shaded style that manages to evoke SF II reimagined in 3d"

- runs in 60FPS

- Gameplay sticking with 2D- Ono wants to "preserve the strategic nature of SF II"

-camera doesn't budge

- Trying to get "as many SFII characters in as possible"

- Takes place after SFII Turbo and before SF III

-Controls are traditional- "in its current early state, the game feels remarkably close to Super SFII Turbo"

- Game is more aggressive- more about attacking than defending. Many of the SF III and Alpha gameplay systems have been scrapped.

- Producer says they haven't decided what platforms or even if there will be an arcade version. Version Shane played was running on a P.C

- Ono suggests Capcom could make a PS2 or DS version if "they deem the market suitable"

-Ono not enthusiastic about making it an exclusive- wants to get it out on as many platforms as possible

whats out: parries, alpha counters, tech rolls, custom combos, air blocking, air fireballs.

it features a new revenge gauge. the revenge gauge is a four sectioned meter that builds up as you take damage. once full you can unleash an unblockable attack..... crap I read that right... um you can also cancel this unblockable combo by dashing once canceld you can follow up with ex moves to continue juggles.... so every character has unblockables now....

Unlike a lot of the fanboys, I'ma be smart and wait for the game to come out before I post judgement.

OH my god yes. Alpha counters, tech roll's, CC's and air fireballs are out? And EX moves are in? I LOVE YOU GUYS

So basically the only way to juggle is with EX moves, and maybe counter hits? I like that, let's hope so! None of those bullshit SFA3 30-hour juggles / untechable OTG's. Looks to me like this is heading the right direction on well.. every aspect.

wait, tech rolls meaning hitting two buttons to roll back or forward to avoid moves? Taking that out would be the most terrible thing ever. People can just back you into a wall and punish you endlessly. Lame.

Um.....there are ways out of corners besides rolling.

Someone hasn't played many 2D fighters.

Man, reading you guys talk about fighting games sometimes makes me want to crap my pants.  Soooo sophistocated.

I'm really looking forward to this game and I'll enjoy it if it's as straightforward as classic SFII.  I can't really get into games like Guilty Gear because they're such a mess.

Which is pretty much just what it needs to be imho.

Won't affect SF corner games at all. Only SF game you could roll out of a corner in was SFA1/2/3. In SF3 all rolling in a corner did was make you wake up faster which didn't really help much at all. You're still in the corner forced to work your way out.

I'm not so sure air blocking is out since in the EGM book on page 66 there's a picture which clearly looks like Ryu is air blocking Ken's rising, fist on fire, uppercut move (dragon punch? shoryuken? I don't know what it's officially called).

shoryuken

or dragon punch, which is just the english translation of shoryuken

and he isn't air blocking, it looks that way from perspective, but most likely Ryu went to do a jumping fierce or roundhouse and it hadn't come out yet when Ken did a Shoryuken.

Looks like Ryu's jumping LP from 3s to me - he does an elbow-first kind of move with just that pose. (If i'm thinking about the right picture >.> )

Man it looks like Street Fighter EX, and the characters also don't seem to have any new design elements. In fact, they don't seem to have aged at all despite being like 50 or 60 or whatever, and the animations are also pretty crummy. What a letdown.
