I am getting it as early as possible... and for free (from the same person that gave me my Wii). Does this count?

My local gamestop is getting a midnight release and also a tournament of sorts. Anybody know if your local game retailer is doing anything like this?

Some friends and I are going to a midnight release and we're bringing it back to one of their houses to play the SSE all night long. After that, me and one of them (who goes to the same school as me) are going back to our campus to play more on our own for the next day.

Smash was made by Nintendo, last I checked. Not Capcom?

I think it would just feel weird for people like me start joining your Capcom subcommunity when I have no interest at all in those games. Maybe it's time to rename it to something more universal?
the channel has like, nothing to do with Capcom actually,  the most played games are SNK's Garou and King of Fighters '98, as well as Ecole-Soft's Melty Blood. The ONLY Capcom game we still play is Third Strike, and that's a very rare occurance.

we tried changing name (to #netplay), it didn't work out even tho that was even MORE universal. no one joined and the channel died out, whereas #capcom still thrives because it's a subcommunity that doesn't pay attention to a general aspect of gaming but an entire subgenre (eg: fighting games). #wifi died fast as well, whereas we even setup wifi matches for Bleach DS on the channel and even set up some 360 matches for Fatal Fury Special, SF2HF and Virtua Fighter 5 (and most likely Soul Calibur 4, SF2HDR and SF4 when they'll be out).

so it's just a logical thing imho. why make a channel that'll die out in less than a month (this WILL happen, even if it's a very popular game) when a channel dedicated to matchmaking of an ENTIRE GENRE is already there. who cares about the name really? Capcom is iconic of being all about fighting games, it's just there for the sake of getting the uneducated to say "hey capcom, sf2 was cool, i'll check it out" and the guy who even visits these forums a bit should know that the channel isn't just about Capcom from the dozens of tournaments and general info topics that were posted.

I'm hoping mine is. They said they weren't last time I checked, but that was before the delay. They may have gotten enough reservations to do one since then. I'll probably stop by sometime this week and check again.

The tournament thing is a nationwide gamestop event. It's being sponsored by Nintendo. First place gets to go to another tourny and then the top players from there get to go to a world finals type of thing.

By the way...stores get games a few days before the official release date right? I was thinking of bribing one of the employees to give me my copy as soon as they get it. How viable is this?

Really? People do it all the time. That's how all the Japanese info was leaked days before January 31st. I imagine all of the gamestop employees will have access to it as soon as they get the shipments in.

I've got a friend who used to work at gamestop. I'll just ask him.

Is the netplay board not enough for setting up a Smash tourny?

Of course I don't plan on playing with GW everyday or anything, but if irc is required I'll be at least a little bummed.

Setting up specific games may require more real time communication than a forum could reasonably provide.

Can't you make the #capcom channel redirect?

I mean personally it's not that big of a deal--I already just added #capcom to my autojoin. But I was thinking in terms of getting new people, especially with Brawl being as big as we all know it's going to be. If people are looking for Brawl players, #capcom wouldn't be the first place they'd look and it might turn them off.

Well most (ie: 99% of anyone you would actually want to play Brawl with here) people know that #capcom is for general fighting games anyways.

You could of course just wait a few days until it's out. You know, since we've all been
waiting for months for this game, and we're all waiting and shit?

I finally got SSBB and the Wii to play it on a few days ago, so if anyone has any BURNING QUESTIONS that have not already been answered, feel free to ask. I have all the characters unlocked, but I'm still working on getting some of the stages.

Subspace Emissary is LONG by the way. It took like 6-8 hours to complete, and according to the game it is still only 85% complete so I guess there are a few more little things to get from it, maybe trophies or CDs or something. I get the feeling that SSE delayed the game a bit because there is so much stuff in it (of course there is a ridiculous amount of stages and music too.) Anyway it was fun to play, because even though the game is Japanese there is no actual dialogue, and you can still tell exactly what is going on in the cutscenes. The menus are pretty easy to navigate too; all the icons are pretty intuitive and easy to understand.

I really like all the new characters. Of my favorites, Ike is rather slow, but he's a beast and hits very hard and is pretty well-rounded. Metaknight doesn't do much damage, but since he attacks so fast it pretty much evens out. The Pokemon Trainer is a blast, and Squirtle (or should I say ZENIGAME) is especially rockin'. At first I thought that was a completely ridiculous character to include, but after playing with him, he actually fits in pretty well and is really fun to play. Unfortunately Snake seems kind of lame at first; his smash attacks are COMPLETELY counter-intuitive since he does things like plant mines and shoot mortars/RPGs instead of regular attacks, but I'll get used to him, and his CQC moves aren't bad. And it's still fun just being able to play with him.

Wow. Congratulations, Belross.
I do have a question. Is the stage editor easy to use?

And what would you rate the game? 1-10?
(Stupid question, but you know.)

Heh heh heh!  Stale Move Negation?  It's about time they added something to discourage move spammers!  It's part of today's update, for those who don't check anymore.

The only thing I found even mildly interesting that I hadn't really read up on before was the thing that they've called "Ukemi"

Yeah, today;'s Dojo update was a serious unexpected treat. I didn't think that they would post these sort of things, especially how he made the comment on L-canceling.

I don't check it any more for new information, but I check it out of habit just because Sakurai's captions on the images are usually  cute, like something a five-year-old would say about them.

The only thing I found even mildly interesting that I hadn't really read up on before was the thing that they've called "Ukemi"

That's teching, the early form of L-canceling, which has been in since the original.
