I usually have stages on random, and unless I'm testing something or want to play with a specific character, I do random character selection as well.
I'm the same way.  I like keeping all the features of the game open, but I also understand why some prefer the tourny rules.  I'll admit, it's kinda ridiculous taking a video game seriously, but that doesn't stop people from doing it.  Competitive play has its own appeals that differ from those of casual play, and part of what makes Smash Bros. so great is that it can easily accomodate both styles, and everything inbetween.

So, can we stop this argument here?  This is how the last thread got locked... :fogetshrug:

Hmm...who was it that kept adding fire to the argument in the last thread...?

@Cheesy Doritos: You're very welcome, but Trick Lobster and Capt. Strife deserve credit, too. I'm just glad there are people at GW that are looking forward to the game that I'll be able to play with online. Much better than playing random people from smashboards.

Of course, of course. Yeah, that's something I'm looking forward to, as well. I'm a little worried, though, about space issues and all that. There has to be a LOT of friend slots, because I'm planning on participating in GW tourneys and stuff, and I also have to get all my other friends and family members. Getting all these numbers will be a hard time, too.

God, this game will make my decade.

I wasn't around when this got locked the last time, but topics usually get locked because people are incapable of properly discussing something with one another, not so much because of the topic itself.

3.  Though it may have been a mistake, Sakurai mentions that players can record entire matches as well as bonuses like Break the Targets to send to friends.  When first announced I think it was something like, up to 3 minutes could be recorded and saved, so unless that has changed maybe it was a slip up of sorts.

(from Iwata Asks - Part 3: Super Smash Bros. Spectator)

Well, the latest update kills that theory as it reconfirms the 3 minute limit.  Although it mentions that regular brawls, home run contests, target smash and multiman brawls are all compatible with the record/replay mode.

So I'm assuming everyone's read the new Iwata Asks, and knows about the comments he made about WW Link and Animal Crosser?

Basically, we're sure Animal Crosser is not playable, but unsure whether Sakurai is talking about a character or a trophy in reference to WW Link.

Also, what's with the updates coming so late? I suppose the image load has to do with it.

First, they knew about it in SSB64 (although it was an accident) and decided to include it in Meele on purpose (but made it reduce lag by half instead of completely removing it like in SSB64).

I'm pretty fucking positive I READ IT IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL and l-cancelling isnt as much of an advanced technique as you people think it is.

For something to be an advanced technique doesn't mean that it has to be a glitch/bug. It's advanced because it's hard to pull off consistently until you get the hang of it, and even then, each character requires different timing.

So you're wrong, whether they knew about it or not, it's still an advanced technique. Just because it's in the manual doesn't mean it's not advanced. It's an advanced technique, and probably one of the most advanced because it is harder to perform than wavedashing. The only thing that's tougher would be either SHFFLs, Samus's missile cancels, or Fox/Falcos little shine combos.

By the way, I've never owned SSB64 or Melee, so I'm unsure if they mention l-cancelling in either manual or not, but I remember people telling me that it wasn't included in the SSB64 manual. Not saying you're wrong, but just pointing that out.

I didn't say it wasn't an advanced technique at all, but whenever people act like it's this big secret thin that only HARDCORE GAMER'S know it makes them look pretty stupid.

Oh, I got ya. Yeah, I agree with you there. It's also funny when they call it cheating even though the developers knew about it and kept it in the game.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

By the way, that CIVILIZATIO"N" thing in your sig is really, really, really, really, really clever.

I doubt it. They'd have to do multiple cutscenes and I don't think they'd put that much effort in, even though it would be cool.

There are pictures from the opening sequence of the game that give away two more characters.
