Listen to Buckethead. He has ADHD.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not his only problem. I read his wiki and a lot of people had personality conflicts with him, to say the very least. But he's pretty disgusting with a guitar. Get the Guitar Hero 2 version of Jordan if you can. I'm not familiar with his other stuff. But if you wanna check out some of his vids on youtube. He displays his skills with not only a guitar but nunchucks AND breakdancing.  :)

Also check out some Boston, Journey, Minibosses, Black Mages, Muse, Iron Maiden, oh and since I'm Canadian I'll say Rush.

IN THAT ORDER huh

also since someone suggested feist and you said you did not have a problem with her (and i assume female vocalists) i would also say metric.  they are probably a bit more ROCKy anyway which might be more to your liking.  and husky rescue which i do not know if you've heard of but they are pretty cool too.

also dismemberment plan

porcupine tree more like porcupine pee

also why are you into indie, alternative and rock? whats the point of minimalising your tastes into genres?

you should check out some obscure electronic genres imo, like minimalistic techno or microhouse

thats a great way to REALLY widen your perspective instead of finding one new band of a genre you've already listened to death

that is my general POV on music

edit: having a few genres you generally won't listen to is ok, but saying you only listen to a handful of genres is what kind of strikes me as close-minded but this is imo so might not mean too much 8( i used to be a metalfag myself so...

yeah dude how could anyone confine themselves to liking rock and roll (i don't approve of genres.........) instead of listening to obscure electronic (except this genre).  i, too, do not understand this penchant people have for listening to shit they like instead of shit they've never heard of/do not like.  it's almost as if they think they can be fans of music without having to be fans of all music... ever, ESPECIALLY the kinds they haven't listened to yet.

sorry if i do not find any appeal in your "general POV" that the ultimate goal of music should be being able to say, and mean, "i like everything."  it's not fucking WEIGHT LIFTING, dude.

ALSO i skipped your posts where you said you disliked metric, so my bad!  it is too bad because i think they are neat.  i'd still check out husky rescue, though.

but since you said you liked the rapture i would say maybe q and not u??? i have always sort of associated the two with each other because they are kind of dancy/weird at the same time and the vocals, while they don't really sound alike, sort of struck me as having the same tone.

That sir, is a lie

Also, Sarhan, you might like Thrice's Vheissu and Alchemy Index, their earlier stuff was more punk/hardcore
some of the stuff on Vheissu and Alchemy index still has some "heavier" tracks, but its definitely more mellow and easy to listen to.

Those aren't the only genres I listen too, just the ones I like the most. I do like some electronic stuff, but I usually have phases where I listen to it a lot and then suddenly can't stand it, and it goes back and forth like that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll listen to them sometime this week if I can and let you all know what I think. Too lazy right now to do anything productive.

I think (everyone) would really like The American Analog Set. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. Try out their album "Know By Heart". It's incredible. I'm especially fond of the songs Aaron & Maria, The Postman, Choir Vandals, Know By Heart, and Punk As Fuck.

im just sayin when one's out actively lookin' for new music, why not try and ask for the kind of music you've never heard?

didn't mean to be a shitbag

as for ITS NOT WEIGHTLIFTING that's exactly what im sayin yo, its about MUSIC, not about GENRES. if anything is fucking WEIGHT LIFTING then its digging as hard as you can into a select few genres so yo wassup homie

Hmmm, also David Bowie. He is really great, and you have probably already heard him, but if all you have heard is the stuff on the radio download an actual album by him because his famous songs are a lot different than his other songs. Don't get any of his new electronic crap, it is all pretty terrible.

indie, alternative, and rock

First band that came to mind when I read this was Deas Vail, which just so happens to be one of my favorite alternative indie rock bands ever. Absolutely beautiful music. I also agree with with anyone who said The Mars Volta; they are crazy amazing and even if you aren't too sure about them at first, they will grow on you. Other than most of the bands that have already been mentioned, I also suggest:
Sparta
The Alkaline Trio
Andy Mckee (If you've ever even touched a guitar at any point in your life, you will appreciate this guy. Check him out http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4)
Billy Talent
Circa Survive (I find that they sound very similar to Coheed and Cambria.... Might just be the high pitched vocals)
Hundred Reasons
Rush
Social code

Yeah, I don't know why I didn't reccomend him first. He is more or less my favorite artist. Also you might cheack out T.Rex. I don't like them that much but you might. And Velvet Underground.

jojoface already suggested it, but I didn't see if you had listened to it or not, but try out Anathallo. They are really awesome. Some others may be Explosions in the Sky, which is brilliant, but music only, no lyrics, and mewithoutYou. I think they have some screaming though, so you may not like them as much.

you know, i think velvet underground and david bowie might be a little off track!  i mean, it's not as bad as that dude who suggested journey, iron maiden, and fucking RUSH (did you even read his post????), but still even having listened to both, it's difficult to see more than a very basic, loosely-inspired-by kind of connection between that stuff and what he named.  keep in mind he's asking for music similar in nature to the listed artists, and not just bands you think are good.  otherwise HEY DUDE...........PORCUPINE TREE and that is way off the mark i'm sure.
