This year, I mainly just direct downloaded random shit and kept what I liked and got rid of what I didn't. Some winners were The Lemon of Pink by The Books, and Left & Leaving by The Weakerthans. I don't know of any albums that are coming out this coming year, and I honestly don't think it's worth knowing. I'll probably just keep doing my thing. I forsee a lot of punk in my future. Patti Smith here I come. Metal is lame, it's not even that close to the new year, and this is another namedrop topic. list list list.

I'm not gonna lie, I downloaded a shitload of stuff as well, hell. But I usually just did that to see whether or not I was going to get my money's worth if I bought the CD. I ended up buying a quite a few CDs this year. Hell, I'm hoping to get John Coltrane's Giant Steps sometime next week.

Well here is what I really liked:
Hanson - The Walk (yes I am gay)
Sigur Ros - Hvarf-Heim
The Pirate Ship Quintet - EP
Mono - Gone
Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
Pelican - City of Echoes
Aereogramme - My Heart Has a Wish That You Would not Go
Caspian - The Four Trees
that's all I can think of for now.

As for 2008 all I am waiting for is Odin's Raven Magic by Sigur Ros and their new album if it will come out that year.

I've been hearing alot about Explosions in The Sky and I've really been wanting to give this band a shot. Anyone have any recommendations on what would be a good song/album to find out about them?

Listen to the album "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place" - definitely one of my top favorite albums of all time.  Specifically, their song "Your Hand in Mine" is beautiful.

Listening to "Your Hand In Mine" right now...
So far it seems very mellow, I'm especially digging the guitars.

I really wish this place was the same way it was like a year or two ago. It feels like we're just going through the motions right now.

Yeah seriously guys, no one cares if you don't like lists. Don't ruin topics which other people could be interested in. No, don't start arguing how lists are horrible etc. because we know what you are going to say and it's okay if you think that. No one's forcing you to read or post. You could also post your favorite albums and tell something about them instead of going UGH HORRIBLE, maybe someone will follow your example!

Anyway, I'll post my favorites when the year is over.

i'm getting tired of gw. it's like we're going backwards. we're letting shit slide now that you should know RIGHT OFF THE BAT you shouldn't let go, like kk4, BLACK RAP, and this list topic. thanks for the lists guys! i am sure they mean something to the people who post them but to the rest of us who want to have a real discussion instead of seeing a bunch of names that don't mean anything it is shit. i like names and names. here's some names for you guys.

the dads - welcome to the dadhouse
the fart detective - i smell farts from across the globe and detect who did 'em part ii
gay dog - if you see any dicks tell me so i can put them in my mouth
gramp zone - dadtopia

hope you enjoyed the list and it wasn't just a bunch of words in a column ^_^

i don't know what to tell you if you are okay with list topics. you are dumb? you don't have standards maybe? don't post this shit. talk about the TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2007, don't post their names.

I just posted a top 10 on my lj but yeah here it is

1. Hafez & Shahram Nazeri - Passion of Rumi
2. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
3. Grails - Burning off Impurities

9. Pelican - City of Echoes
10. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog

granted I only came across 14 albums that came out in 2007 this year so yeah

that's a good example because wc posted that exact same list except with details on his lj. here's a link. this is what people should be doing. compiling a list and explaining what you like about each album, not making a column of names. believe it or not, while music is subjective, you can always qualify what you like about it!!!

and about YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THIS or FOLLOW BY EXAMPLE, i'll leave you with a little quote i've always really enjoyed.

"you shouldn't put the burden on good posters, you should put the test to the poor ones"
- kurt cobain

Your right chef, I'll give an explanation as to why I chose what I did instead of just a list.

My List
Releases of 07
1. Between the Buried and Me - Colors
I really enjoyed this album. I've always been a fan of this band and didn't know what to expect from this album, and it completely blew me away. Since I'm a whore for guitar solos, This album will pretty much satisfy me for years to come.
2. Tegan and Sara - The Con
I came across these two lovely ladies from another forum I visit. I was starting to get tired of heavy music and needed something simple, poppy, but still filed with many moments that would leave me in awe. I found that with this album. Everything from the catchy pop melodies to the darker ambient passages really left me wanting more. Granted there were a few songs I thought were pretty weak, there were some songs that just left me blown away ("Knife Going In", "Like O, Like H").
3. Chick Corea - To The Stars
I really don't have alot to say except that this album has definitely made me want to push myself as a musician. I love Chick's music. He always seems to make songs come alive. I was especially fond of "Allan Corday" and "Mistress Luck - A Portrait". Definitely a great album.
4. Blotted Science - The Machinations of Dementia
I needed something heavy towards the end of the year, and Blotted Science delivered. I'm a huge fan of Ron Jarzombek's shredding, and when I heard he was going to be playing with Charlie Zeleny and Alex Webster, I just had to hear what they were doing. It was definitely quite the shred fest of brutal riffs and melodic solos.

I'll try not to post "just list" anymore.
