I voted call of duty 4. Even though I haven't played a lot of those games, COD4 has the best multiplayer I've ever played in my life.

Yeah, I loved San Andreas, but it was just such a black game. :x Like. Eh, I dunno, it was all so frickin' black, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of Vice City more.

I voted for Super Mario Galaxy.  Playing that at my cousins house on the Wii was not only the first real fun experience that I've had on the Wii (I haven't really been impressed with anything I've played on it other than the Wii Sports that comes with the console), but it was probably the most fun that I've had with the Mario world since Super Mario Brothers for the SNES.

The other ones that I would consider, I haven't played yet (Bioshock or Crysis) as my computer isn't currently powerful enough for them.   I don't know if I really can justify my vote for Super Mario Galaxy since I haven't played them yet (am planning when I get my laptop at the end of this month), but I think Super Mario Galaxy would definitely still be on the high end of my list if those turn out to fare better for me.

DERAIL EAT A DICK

man this is one of the biggest problems with writing in videogames. the more you think about the writing of ANY VIDEOGAME the more you can pull that shit apart completely and see how fucking terrible it is because NOBODY has done it right. for years i thought deus ex was some GRAND MASTERPIECE and then i played it again recently and realized how not that great it is.

the only game writing i've been able to really stomach and not tear apart are anachronox and killer 7, because neither took itself too seriously and both have such fucking terrible gameplay that you really can't even compare it to games that begun doing things right. i'm just kinda happy that they had fun with it and did whatever the fuck they wanted to do, regardless of how incredibly messy the end result was.
this is why i have not bothered reading faulkner in many, many years. it was possible when i was a bright-eyed college student eager for information, but now i am jaded and shitty and would rather faulkner just come back from the dead to punch me hard in the dick

I'm kind of confused by Killer 7; his new game looks like the same wacky shit as before and I really thought he would be able to actually do something different this time, you know? I get the feeling that unlike Devil May Cry, which took the world's worst plot and made it infinitely worse (ideally) on purpose (he surfs a missile and hits a bunch of bats with a motorcycle while he's flipping through the air), he's kind of doing the one trick pony thing maybe, which is a shame. I know someone we know, bort or panda or someone, really hated Killer 7 but I thought it was way cool.  the plot was bizarre as shit and not in a goofy japan way and while I wouldn't call it postmodern really since nothing in that game resembled modernity at all, I thought it was really a good game. the final boss is you shooting a guy in the nuts repeatedly.

but yeah I'm getting this idea that all he knows how to do is wacky Japanese shit which is frustrating because there was mad potential in a game like Killer 7 with gameplay that wasn't just GODAWFUL RAILS SHOOTER but if you've seen No More Heroes, it looks okay but the same kind of WACKY GAME, you know?

I entirely agree with this.  I played killer7 (or "am playing", not done with it yet though, only on like the fourth chapter or something) and I play it for the amazing non-gameplay parts.  The gameplay isn't that terrible, but I'm just not a fan of rail shooters, especially when there's an L shaped hallway and you're coming into it from the intersection so you have to RUN STRAIGHT a little bit to be able to turn around to see what's directly behind you and already has you killed by the time you have found it.  No More Heroes looks like it keeps the amazing style but instead is an open (apparently in both world and gameplay) game.  I can't wait for it to come out.

Hrej.cz then claimed that the BioShock sequel isn't really a sequel per say and will instead be a prequel with a storyline based on events that occur prior to Rapture's eventual fall.

Don't want to derail but this makes sense.  It's difficult to write an actual sequel for a multi-ending game without either taking the middle ground (Deus Ex 2) or forcing a particular ending to be canon (Chrono Crisis).

I voted Bioshock.  You guys can argue about the plot all you want, but the dialogue tapes are pretty interesting, and the voice acting is actually GOOD.  Gameplay-wise, there are a lot of ways you can approach fighting your enemies--especially the fight with Sander Cohen.  You could plant mines on the stairs as he is coming down for a powerful initial hit, you could litter the entire map with trap bolts, hypnotize a big daddy into attacking him, or just strong-arm him and the splicers with your weaponry/plasmids.  The game is ridiculously fun, and I'm not even a fan of FPS games.  There are just a lot of ways to approach the game, and it's far from linear in that respect.  If you wanted to take a stealth approach by stunning your enemies with lightning and wrenching them, you could.  There are physical tonics to aid you if you wanted to play the game that way.

The amount of detail (not just graphically) doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired.  I'm currently playing through it again to get the good ending, although I saw it on YouTube and it wasn't that good.  However, the game is entertaining enough as it is...fuckin' up splicers is so viscerally satisfying...for real.
