I knew this would me Boston/New England's year when....Welker....got shipped out to Massachusetts.
i am going to have to call bullshit on this!! i was a pretty big fan of wes welker after watching a handful of miami games in 2006, but never with my overwhelming, but apparently justified optimism over the guy did i EVER think that he would have the sort of season he had this year and contribute what he did to this team, and i don't realistically see how anybody else could have either. there's no way someone could have looked at this short, scrappy return man/receiver and thought THIS GUY IS GOING TO MAKE THE PATS REALLY SPECIAL. i actually thought it would be a realistic scenario to expect him to have a season with the patriots similar to the season
brandon stokley had with the colts in 2004 during Manning's 48TD year.
hell, i thought welker was brought into the organization as third-stringer material anyway? i thought they were going to give the SECOND FIDDLE TO MOSS role to stallworth. could be wrong there though.
eh, not like it matters because there were enough incredible players coming into new england over the offseason anyway, i'm just saying.
also, to pats fans: how big of a difference was adalius thomas this year? the pats signing him made me not want to watch football at all this year, because he was the best player on the ravens for years despite playing with a few future hall of famers. also he was what i thought would be the NAIL IN THE COFFIN along with moss for the entire NFL. i
definitely didn't think UNDEFEATED because that's an enormous leap, but that's what made this team the best in the nfl in my mind. anyway, i'm kinda curious to know if i was right, and if he did make that big of a difference in the patriots' transition from excellent team to best ever team. i didn't watch a lot of the patriots, and i really haven't heard anything about him
also if i
was wrong, look for the guy to potentially get better down the road. he can be a pretty wacky player, so you kinda have to work his skill set into the playbook by hand. plus, he was always the late-bloomer type who somehow manages to improve his game dramatically every year. always seemed like a pretty cool guy too, for what it's worth.
