Apparently there was a way through the equip setup (I think) that allowed any class to wield the unlockable weapons. So basically Spies could be running around with ubersaws and scouts could be carrying flamethrowers.

Sandman is gonna be awesome btw.

also also just to nitpick but saying you have to get the "pointless" achievements to get the new weapons doesn't make much sense? I mean, the achievements aren't really pointless if their point is to unlock new weapons??? I know that this wasn;t really your point, you probably meant that each individual achievement just doesn't really mean anything, it's just SORT OF bragging rights I guess. I can see this being contentious though, it's almost a GRIND which isn't something people would like to see in a FPS.

it's not so much that there's no reason to get the achievements, but that the achievements are mostly really fucking stupid things that aren't so much achievements as utterly bizarre and WRONG ways to play the game. they are not 'achievements' they are just stupid. get 5 spy kills in a row without dying is an achievement, 'Cause a dominated player to leave the server' - aka grief a player into ragequitting - is not a fucking achievement.

Also look at the background. Payload race mode.

edit: oh woah, his weapon is different too. It's definitely not the scattergun. Double barrel shotgun is my guess.

actually tf2 is pretty much the only online game i haven't ragequit from. public games are just full of people of pathetic skill levels or people trying to emulate team roomba, so it's easy to just be really lax and have fun, or win every game etc

Force-A-Nature is the new scattergun unlockable, which has a knockback effect and is probably really powerful but with very few bullets.

Dunno if any of you guys have gotten these new toys but they are sorta weird.

The new shotgun is pretty okay, it's pretty fast and the knockback is nice but you can't kill jack nor shit with this thing. It doesn't really give you a triple jump, it's more like a double and a half jump and personally I have not found any areas that are now accessable with this.


Iirc, the immortality drink was made so that scouts can run through sentries, and indeed you can if the sentry is positioned so that it's knockback won't hold you back until the effect wears off. They said that bullets can't hit you when you have drunk this shit but neither can anything else and explosions don't toss you around either? But this thing is only useful if you need to run back to spawn to get hp/ammo or if some faggots have blocked a path with sentries you can get through them with this.

But how does this make you more viable in dustbowl and goldrush and such? All the sentry farms are at the end, at the last cap, so where are you going to run with this? It's a dead end and you can't attack while you have this stuff on so I really don't get it. In fact it's more of a kamikaze defence tool because you can go block ubered people with it. I guess you can act like a medic who has ubered himself and goes to draw away the sentry fire so the rest of the team can attack.


The Sandman is pretty useless because you lose your double-jump only to gain a really hard to aim stun. I can see how this can be really good for stopping ubers and heavies especially but aside from that I really haven't found much use for it.


Aside from Watchtower which could use some work, all the maps they included in this pack are really fucking shitty. I haven't checked out the new fastlane so I can't go into details but apparently it's still a 100% stalemate map so who cares.

Junction and Eqypt however are just fucking atrociously bad. Junction completely shuts off snipers, scouts and partially spies by being too small and narrow. The first 2 points are like impossible to defend but the third one is the king of all sentry farms. Eqypt looks nice and all but the visuals aren't really consistent with the rest of the game and the map itself is just fucking boring.

FAN is pretty stupid unless you're POINT BLANK and can get both shots off in that little time that you will be.

it's really useless against scouts who use scattergun.

I actually like the FAN, mainly because I'm either point blank or using the Pistol mostly.

FAN is good, I dunno what problem you guys are having.

You need to be very careful when you aim with the FAN. If anybody has been in a scout vs. scout before, you know that the person who backpedals always loses. Putting the pressure on scouts (and really anybody) is where it really shines. If you can successfully pull of 2 shots on a scout, he will probably go down. If not, pull out your pistol and shoot a few rounds. The scattergun is a good weapon, but it's no good if you're trying hit and run tactics, which the FAN is perfect for. It's just too slow. Heavies are incredibly easy to kill with it, since the knockback messes with their aim. And once you get up close, 2-3 shots will take him down. It also COMPLETELY destroys pyros, their flamethrower can't touch you at all. Any class with low health will die in 2 rounds before they can even react due to the increased firing speed. If they're not dead, by the time they find out it's you, they'll be knocked back, and you'll be running away setting up for the next attack.

Bonk! is the most worthless item ever. It sucks. It has no use.  I've seen scouts TRY to retreat with this shit, but all you have to do is chase them down. It only lasts about 5 seconds anyway. It's probably good if there is 20 seconds left on a map and you have no uber ready and absolutely have to attack. But usually you lose in these type of situations anyway, I doubt some 5 second invulnerability will help.

I've found that the value of the Sandman really depends on the map. In maps like badwater or badlands, it's surprisingly useful because of how open they are. I think it has made the scout too cheap, though. Not only can this weapon stun you for over 5 seconds, but everyone on your team now knows who's completely helpless, and will proceed to kill him with no skill involved. Try capturing the last point in the final level of dustbowl. A few scouts coupled with snipers can completely dominate the attacking team now. He literally has an advantage to every class. Not even Heavies with Natascha can win since you can stun kill them. Almost every other class has a weakness, but now the Scout really doesn't have one. The scouts worst enemy is now himself.

Imo the FAN is the only good update that came from this. Egypt is absolutely terrible. It doesn't even look that impressive, I don't know why Valve decided they wanted a de_dust map in tf2. Watchtower is the only good map, since it's essentially a huge coliseum for you to fight in (perfect for arena). The FAN is great here too since it can knock you off the pipes and have you fall 30 feet.

oh yeah just wanna add that things will probably change soon. Not to mention it's hard to judge the effectiveness of most of these because there are usually 10 scouts on a team now. I'm 200% sure the bonk! sucks though.

Given the current situation of 8 scouts in a team of 12, yes, it is impossible to outrun the enemy with it but when stuff gets back to normal with a 1 or 2 scouts in a team of 12 it is a pretty sure way to get away if you manage to drink it. I don't know if it also works something like the sandvich when you are burning that it blocks afterburn damage also, which really would help a low hp class like the scout.

Given the choice of pistol or bonk!, I'd pick bonk! personally though.

Also, thanks to all the faggits complaining in the tf2 forums they ruined the Sandman with some idiotic bullshit that didn't solve any of the problem(s).

Now when you stun someone, they take -50% damage until the stun stun wears off. So basically, if you stun someone then you no longer can kill the guy you just stunned unless he was almost dead anyway. It's almost more likely that you end up saving an enemy by stunning them.

Can someone tell me what was the point of this? Is it supposed to be an escape mechanism now?

Why didn't they just reduce the maximum stun period to like 2 seconds at all distances? I mean, even if you randomly hit someone from the other side of the map and get a maximum stun (however long that is, 5 seconds iirc) you will never have enough time to run up there and kill the guy. And if you have a buddy there to finish the guy off he sure as hell doesn't need 5 seconds to take down a guy who can't fight back.
