Popped into my head a few minutes ago as I remembered an old GW meet topic where someone said "So-and-so is so different in person!" or something to that extent, so... I decided to find out how many GW members feel that their behavior, mannerisms, everything, varies from these internet forums to the real world.

To the members who like to joke and make fun of other members on a regular basis, do you continue these activities offline?
And to the members who usually stick to their own business and sort of go against the "GW norm" that has been established.. How do you fare in real life?

As for me, I'm completely different. I don't think it is a case of "taking on a different personality" as it is simply my own personality being a little skewed in the transition from real life to internet forums. I don't curse much in real life (despite how many times I may do so over IRC) and I am generally very relaxed, easy-going, and civil. Also, I often frown upon stupid behavior in real life when I may think it's funny stuff here at GW, especially when it comes at the expense of someone else.

How about you folks?

I think if you showcased a game to people in a room they'd be a lot more forgiving than the people who easily slaughter it online. I guess that's because people are more polite in real life because that's the way they've been taught as they've grown up whilst there isn't really an etiquette for the internet.

Well, let's see. On GW I describe myself as fairly mature, humorous sparingly. In real life, I act crazy most of the time. I would say that there are many differences.

As far as my opinions and everything go, I am exactly the same.  The only difference is that I'm WAY more passive in arguments and stuff in real life since I'm not good with TALKING TO PEOPLE and shit, and...that's why I do it online I guess!

Yeah, that's always been a big thing. It's unfortunate that we feel more free and "untouchable" online, prompting some people to just be.. Well, giant dicks. I tend not to let myself get like that unless I'm spewing out my "e-freedom" at nobody in particular.

Yeah, there's also the classic example of people who are shy and mousey (nose-in-a-book) people who don't say boo to anyone and when they get on the forum they realise the potential to get their rage on.

I can't say I'm exactly the same, but pretty much. I'm a bit more reserved in real life, but that's probably the same for almost everyone. Aside from that I guess I'm more friendlier and stuff. I don't really know, there aren't many differences I guess.

Some aspects of my personality are similar, but I talk a lot more in real life than the internet. I'm a person big on personal presence, body language, voice, inflection, and things like that, so talking on the Internet doesn't really appeal to me as much as talking personally. I'm a big people person, and I love talking to people, but on the Internet you don't really get that, so I don't really express myself much online.

I don't know. I'd say fairly different but you can ask KTT as I talk to him frequently on msn. Although I'd say I'm even different on msn too.

Basically the same. I am a pretty outgoing person in 'real life' and pretty much the same on the interent. The main difference would be I can be more of a dick on the intrent because of the invisibility factor, compared to real life where I almost always try to avoid conflict.

I'm an asshole online. I cuss excesively and such.
on MSN and RL I'm much more laid back, chilled, at ease, respectful, humble and modest.

I'd say I'm more active online, I can be a little passive in real life. However I am still pretty crazy. I guess I act around the same. I think I try to act more mature than I usually am on the internet, however.

EDIT: Also damn UPRC every time I see your avatar I think you're Fade.

I would say I am pretty much exactly the same. I try to blur the line between real life personality and online personality, idk. I would say COMPLETELY THE SAME but there are no doubt a few differences I'm not aware of. :)

I'm pretty similar, it wasn't originally like that, but as I used the internet more and more it blended with the real life, It's pretty crazy.

I feel as though its impossible to say. Since my IRL persona changes depending of where I am and more importantly who I'm talking to. and I don't mean in small ways. My personality changes drastically based on these things. I'm shy and then later, I'm loud and obnoxious. or one moment I'm polite and obey others wishes, the next I'm telling someone off (usually jokingly or at least semi-jokingly) for trying to tell me what to do.  Its as if I don't even know which persona is the "actual" me. its actually kind of frustrating... I think this is tied to my my lack of an ability to make a lot of decisions.

I couldn't tell you. I don't think I have much of a personality on GW other than INTERESTS AND OPINIONS.

I tend to be more talkative online, and less likely to keep my comments/questions to myself.
