south park was awful for many years and it only got good in the last few. i think they've just run themselves a little dry. they should take a break for a year or two, though i know they signed up for another bunch of seasons. just got to hope they'll hit a strong run again.

New South Park's on, it's decent so far. Much better than last weeks episode. I just noticed that Kenny sounds like Butters, but muffled.

Why is a topic about South Park in Comics & Anime?  Why wouldn't it be?  :fogetshrug:

I really enjoyed the most recent episode, it was certainly better than the previous two.  I wonder how many people have actually watched Heavy Metal...

It is kinda weird posting about something on TV in C&A though. To expand on my previous post, it was better than last weeks episode, but a majority of it was just Kenny and Kyle's dad in the fantasy drug land. Also, I'm starting to notice a trend of them smashing multiple pop-culture/historical/etc. events together in each episode. I know they've done it in the past couple of years, but now it just seems so much more obvious and forced.

this should totally be in film media.

that was a good ep I think. like, I wasn't sold on it all the way but it was pretty funny and the Heavy Metal shit is good.

Then how come this board isn't called "Comics and Cartoons" then?

I dunno, it's something I have asked before, to... deaf ears. But to me it seems very retarded and elitist to single out animes for this forum because anime is just cartoon like manga is just comic. Since there's no hidden cartoon forum and since cartoons have been dicussed here befor, it makes pretty perfect sense to continue that way!
But this isn't the topic for that, this is the topic for discussing tits and cat piss.

Last night's episode kinda sucked. I really don't think Matt Stone and Trey Parker fully comprehended the WGA strike.

e: Ok so Butters's song was awesome.

I totally didn't give a shit about the writers strike (don't watch american TV, don't really watch modern movies anymore etc), so this episode had me in a not care. The lame internet memes scene though was terrible.

I started watching again about half way through season ten, and I have to admit I'm enjoying it, something I thought couldn't happen again after season five.

While I didn't think much of the latest episode, I couldn't care less about the WGA and the internet fads joke didn't really have me either.  I did enjoy the ones so far this season but they don't beat the end of season eleven.  I actually kinda hope that they make something of Stan and Wendy's reunion

the best part was how they said there was no money on the internet.

except like last week they released http://www.southparkstudios.com/ which has full episodes. they are pulling in money...by selling ad space.

whoops!

I've always found South Park funny, but there have been some pretty crappy episodes.  Definitely liked the Warcraft, Scientology, and "Super Adventure Club" episodes.  But it's always like they have one or two good episodes, then they add something utterly pointless and crappy.  The Towley episodes are usually pretty lame.  But then, you have some great ones, like when Cartman goes to the future to get the Wii, only to find sentient otters and the like.  Then, they make prank calls to the past as a form of entertainment in the future.  Great stuff.  I don't think the Family Guy episode was too bad.  I think they made som pretty true criticisms of Family Guy's jokes and the like.  Most of late Season 4/5 was pretty random crap, not even tied to a central storyline.

Also, SP has a very unique creation cycle -- the latest episode is made in the week prior to airing.  So they literally make the entire episode in a week, right before it's due.  In a way, it's the ultimate form of procrastination, and a lot of stuff is hit/miss.  But I feel like they do a pretty good job pointing out the funny parts and less-known details, tied in with cultural references.  I particularly liked the "Global Warming" episode where they made fun of the flood and made references to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Didn't you notice how inexplicably dead pan his explanation was? I thought it was an obvious joke at the exec's logic for not being able to come up with money for the writers before the strike (as well as the aftermath of the Canadian strike... when everyone got pissed over the money they lost by striking vs what they gained).

It does say "Talk about anything related to comics or animation in this forum, both "Western" and Japanese." in the description.
