I'm thinking of setting up a mocktrial on GW. This means I need people to volunteer for the following roles:

-Judge- this person has to essentially make calls about whether objections or evidence can be submitted. I'll brief whoever it is on the specific laws they need to know beforehand.

-Defense Attorney- the defense attorney has to defend their client. I'll give them certain pieces of evidence and tell them the legislation on hand too. defense can cross examine witnesses and introduce new witnesses. defense attorneys also can make an opening and closing argument.

-Prosecuting Attorney- same as the above, only the prosecution has the goal of prosecuting the offender.

WE WILL FOLLOW AMERICAN LEGAL PRECEDENCE, MEANING THAT THE PROSECUTION MUST PROVE GUILT BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.

-Witnesses- I need someone to be a victim and a defendant. They will testify (based on the story I give them) and be crossexamined.

-Jurors- here's the fun part. basically, anyone who wants to be a juror, feel free to apply. In the American system, the jurors are the determiners of fact and give the guilty/not guilty verdict. for jurors whats going to happen is everyone who wants to be a juror will have to undergo a jury selection process. First the judge will ask questions and determine who might be too biased to serve on the jury and if anyone is clearly too flakey or stupid or busy. Then there's a voir dire where the prosecution and defense can ask their own questions (within reason) to the jurors. the pool will get narrowed to 12, with 2 alternates who only matter if one of the 12 fucks off.

That's seventeen total people (plus two alternate jurors).

I'll basically be handholding everyone for the really complex parts, so don't worry if it sounds too complex; you'll be briefed on everything via PM and stuff.

one last important note: this stuff will come up in voir dire so I won't say what the case is, but crime is crime. I am using a real case here. if even in a game you don't think you could stand to play the part of a rapist or defending a murderer or anything like that, I urge you not to participate. just a gay little disclaimer.

for all the multiple applications that aren't jurors, I'm just going to randomize them and pick from that.

would be up for being one of the guys on the stand (witness, suspect, etc.). this actually comes at a good time because i have been meaning to do basic research on trials and this should give me knowledge boost +1.

defense attorney sounds like fun but i'm sure i'd put my client in jail for life by accident

Sounds like a blast!  I would love to be the judge, though I would also love to be an attorney.  If all else fails, then I volunteer for juror.

Prosecuting Attorney sounds fun. Think I'd like to be that. Juror if not.
