Plunge doesn't make that much sense in the beginning when there's not much you can do and you lose almost every plunge battle but you can start winning in second episode and new elements are introduced to it and it gets more interesting. There's always a random factor involved as well, but I think plunge is a pretty cool system, and I wouldn't disable it because there aren't that many plunge fights to begin with, and later in the game there are some plunge tournaments which are pretty cool.

Man I think I complained earlier that I didn't like this game but the fact that this thread exists (and is about the fifth of its type) makes me so jealous.

last time i checked the plunges were just 99% luck when the only thing you can do yourself is selecting which attack you use and prior to the battles you can link some shit to them, which is also luck based iirc.

So i dunno man it was pretty stupid like theres the basic damage that goes according to some stat + luck, and then theres the random AI (luck), possibility to proc the skills linked to the attack (luck) and critical hits (luck). Why is the majority of it all based on luck when its such a vital part of the game that you need in order to progress. At least this is how i recall it.

Like I remember how i first got my ass handed to me in this one mandatory plunge then reloading the game and oops i won effortlessly.

EDIT:
also you could level up all the first weapons you get but even when they are 100% complete they still suck ass and completely lose to the later ones that have not been leveled at all, but then again there was some abilities gained through them so i dunno i gues that balances it out except that even the abilities from the later swords just wiped the floor with the early ones.  But goddamn its so unrewarding and disappointing leveling up the shitty slash and stab and whatever the fuck swords expecting them to be great in the end, but, no. It doesn't happen.

So in the end you can collect all the plunge skills etc but it all depends on luck anyway so you just might not even bother, and then theres the case of normal battles in which you absolutely need to know what weapons to level and what not to level. I remember that one minecart dungeon near the end of the game and oh boy those monsters were some gayass shit to deal with when i had the wrong set of abilities leveled.

or something like that

The Plunges are partly luck but you are wrong to think they are ALL luck. The skills you learn for plunging over the course of the 6 eps are VERY important. Some of them can heal you, some of them can add extra damage to your attacks. Some can block other ppl's skills. Some can make your special move come sooner or make your opponent's come later. Etc etc etc. Just like most everything else in The Way it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. You won't see the full potiental of anything in eps 1 or 2. You have to play through the whole thing.

And what the hell? You complained that you had to have certain weapons leveled up to beat enemies? So the fact that Lun made the weapons MEAN something and made the DBS less of a button masher is a BAD thing to you? That just makes you sound really lazy.

Plunges are about luck at first, but not later on. If you try to luck your way through the end game plunges, you will lose everyone. There are a ton of plunges in Ep6 although most are hidden.

Yes, and if you want to play the entire game including several endings (ep6 also have ton of hidden sidequests and optional stuff) play with Jabbo's walkthrough.. Maybe after you finish it the first time.\

I don't know how people not like ep1 though. It's the first episodes that kept me going to 2nd ep, and 2nd ep to 3rd ep... to 6th ep. I totally liked how I was going through it. Wait, I remembered 'training' Rhue a little, but anyway..

this game looks very awesome and I can't wait until it is released, it looks like a completely original RPG with interesting varied characters, a nice and innovative battle system, an uncliched plot not dealing with crystals, and a cool nam,e

basically this is what final fantasy 7 should iof ben heh

Yeah the first two episodes are completely terrible, and so is the last, at least as far as gameplay goes.

But seriously, this is still one of my favorite games of all time possibly, even though some parts are really unenjoyable.

Gameplay sucks though.  The plunge may be the worst system of battle ever invented.  It doesn't even get strategic until like THE LAST FOUR-SIX PLUNGES IN THE WHOLE GAME.

Seriously play it though.
