Hey this is new to me, but apparently some schools have had co-ed dorm rooms an option since 2005. Now, about two dozen schools (including A TON OF SCHOOLS  IN MY AREA! (since Massachusetts is so liberal)) are letting people choose what gender they want to live with.

I'm not surprised that this is getting a huge backlash from parents and crazy religious fuckos, but I doubt they will do much to stop it since there's always the go-to-a-different-school option. If you're not comfortable with your precious son rooming with a female friend from high school, it's a bit understandable, but most people aren't doing this for FUCKING. I had a few female friends in high school that I would have preferred to live with over guy friends (men are a**sholes).

Personally, I'm just glad that universities and colleges are finally acknowledging that GAYS AND LESBIANS EXIST. If the original mindset a few decades ago was WE DONT WANT PEOPLE HAVING SEX, then obviously homosexuality was forgotten as a very realistic situation!

What do you guys think?

You can already share apartment-style dorms with members of the same sex here but bedrooms are individual... which I think is a good thing.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I think its great, if you've got a couple thats just living together you don't have people sneaking into the other dorms all the damn time.

Besides, I'd love to live with a chick too. You get tired of being around dudes all the time

the only experience i've had living with women is in hostels and really it's not a big deal, i mean as long as you aren't a creep i guess. i wouldn't have any problem living with women and not because i want to peek at them doing something sexy like takin a dookie but because after the initial OOOH GIRLS IN MY ROOM part (which lasts like two seconds), you just act like normal and walk around in your boxers because even if they are hot you live with them and who can be bothered trying to impress people when you're eating toast and farting

The only real disadvantage with living with girls is a) they take five fucking hours to go to the bathroom to brush teeth/take a shower/take a dump/pms and b) they drink all your fucking milk.

Girls are slobs, dude. Living with a smart and polite guy is the equvalent of living on your own and paying half rent. Living with a smart and polite girl, she will still probably clean out her hairbrush and stick the hair to the wall of the shower, leave food out, socks lying around, and never sweep.

I dunno, but sometimes I think that in this day and age men are still raised to be more self relaint than women are, but now women aren't encouraged to know how to keep house anymore.

i was referencing another topic trying to be awesome

Also, although the public girls restrooms are nice (don't ask how I know), they make private bathrooms into shit. They spend two and a half hours in the bathroom working on their face/taking a shower and spend the other two and half hours shitting it up with their hair and various items.

And no, I'm not trying to be stereotypical, I'm just saying what I've observed from living with two girls for about sixteen years of my life.

you bastard now you've fucked us all

As for the issue, I don't really care, but I can see why religious people would go crazy over this since they think that "girl and boy in same room = sex"

I'd prefer it. A lot of my male friends are best kind but im not so sure if i'd trust them all the time while im sleeping and to live with, but like almost all the girls i know are easy to talk to and wouldnt pull shit while im asleep (unless they wanted sex which i wish they'd wake me up for :P ) but yeah im an organized person but still messy so i dont mind if there a lil messy. and besides if its a girl i grew up with someone to talk to and stuff and get advice and vice versa.

This is good. Granted, I've never come across a woman that I would ever want to live with... but yeah I would imagine if OSU isn't doing this yet they will be soon, Columbus is a pretty liberal city (huge gay population, lots of middle class minorities) so I would expect this to be an option by the time I get my undergrad degree. I probably wont ever take advantage of it, but I think that having the option to do so is a good thing.

honestly, I had a lot more female friends then I did guy friends in High School, and besides if I roomed with one of them, it'd feel more like I was rooming with a sister or other female family member than a girlfriend or something like that.

Besides, it's not like guy-only/girl-only dorms stopped them from having sex anyways.  If they want to fuck bad enough, they will find a way.

yeah this. 10 or so years ago girls were taught how to cook, how to keep the house clean etc, but nowadays they don't know shit and are just like us, sooo it doesn't make a little bit of difference which gender you are live with.

I mean come on, since I live alone I know more about housekeeping than all of my female friends put together. THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT

Who would've thought that a guy and a girl can live in the same room and NOT be tempted to have sex with each other... No when did this happen?

As far as I've seen the dorms here in Melbourne are all co-ed and have been for a while. They're split into 'houses' - all separate bedrooms of course, but guys rooms are next to girls and so on. thejackyl is right regardless, the fanatic Christian parents should wake up and smell the java and realise people are going to have sex at college if they want to.

Well cohabitation is a sin, and if you don't reconcile for it, you WILL go to hell. End of story.

Thats A little harsh but i agree somewhat.  I mean if you have a boy and girl sharing the same dorm then temptation will always play a part. I guarantee you 90% of the time it will lead to sexual relations or rape.

This is offtopic but my roommate's girlfriend lives here every single day and I swear to god she is the bitchiest person I know.

She assumes she can boss me around and constantly bitches about dirty dishes if they're in the sink for more than half a day as well as demanding I do chores like take out the trash (dude, the custodial staff PICK IT UP FROM OUR ROOMS FOR US) because my roommate did it the 'last time'. Also today I came back to find a rotten cabbage in my BEDROOM and I have no idea where it came from. I think she assumed it was mine in the fridge when in fact I threw out most of the veggies I bought a couple weeks ago.

I also have a loud alarm set so that it will wake me up (I am heavy sleeper) and she can't sleep through someone closing a fucking door so every morning even if the alarm is not very loud she pounds the wall.

I am not exactly a GREAT ROOMMATE (I leave dishes in the sink for too long sometimes and occasionally I leave computer sound on when I'm not present) but jesus she shows absolutely no respect considering she is NOT MY ROOMMATE and doesn't have a right to complain about the room when she and my roommate smoke pot in the kitchen 3 times a day.

what treg since when did you room with girls

For me I don't think that gender would matter at all. Roommates ate roommates and no matter what they are horrible fucking people who exist solely to get in my way and annoy the fuck out of me. -practices skateboard tricks inside the dorm room while watching family guy and youtube standup comedy-
