Well it was a little confusing are they basically dead people with parasites controlling them? Because you know how they would keep moving even without a HEAD and crap - if so that's pretty much zombie imo, a reanimated dead person

It would be nice if Capcom spun off this idea by making the world aware of the shit that's going on.  It would be nice to play a conspiracy theorist who's been following the string of weird crap (bombing of an American city by the government, kidnapping of presidents daughter, crazy stuff in Africa) and he acquires a sample of the parasites or whatever for study only to accidentally expose it to his home town or something.  We're always playing as these badass government agents (who were all cops and average Joes at one point) but playing as a guy with no combat experience could both be challenging and exciting.

And they could fuck up your aim too! So, like, when you wanna shoot, the crosshair wobbles all over the place! And you could be outta shape! So you could only run for about 5 seconds before you have to stop and catch your breath. And when you get a big super weapon, you wouldn't be able to use it 'cause your average Joe guy doesn't have a clue how to turn it on. Yeah, that'd be excellent.

Yeah, actually I thought a ROOKIE like Leon was a good average joe kind of guy because I mean he is a cop but it's his first day on the job lolol also that is pretty bad luck come to think of it

And when you say some conspiracy theorist guy I think of someone like Dale from King of the Hill so he probably be the kind of guy who knows how to make a bomb out of chicken wire and give his 2 year old nephew an ak-47 for birthday so he actually would end up being pretty well-prepared for a zombie invasion lol

Most games simulate jitter when you move and shoot so I don't see this as a problem.  I'm assuming the guy isn't a total slob so sprinting would be limited but a light jog is easy for the average person.  I don't know what you refer to as a "big super weapon" but rocket launchers aren't commonplace in American suburbs.

So the game would, you know, focus on tactical fighting instead of stand still + shoot (oh wait you have grenades and can suplex every enemy in sight).  There's a bit more emphasis put on the survival part of survival horror when your character can't jump heights that are 3x his size and knife ogres in the back with the greatest of ease.

Wasn't Resident Evil : Outbreak that did something similar to this. I don't think I remember any rocket lauchers down there, exept for that thing (Tyrant?) at the last scenario, a rocket laucher in an outhouse (I think). Now if AI buddies wouldn't be complete IDIOTS that would have been a very nice game.

You're meant to play it online, iirc. Why would you have npc companions?

Hardly anyone played the game about a month after release.

People barely know about this PS2 online thing here, and no one is providing it, or I just don't know how to use it. Plug in internet cable?

If you don't have a slim ps2, buy adapter, screw it in the back of the ps2(remove the little plastic panel) and plug in ethernet cable

but i doubt ps2 games have their internet servers up anymore

even mgs3:subsistence is over

almost all the posts in this thread have been incredibly annoying.

i don't get why you guys are bitching about how this RE game looks shitty and is RUINING THE FRANCHISE when the gameplay for all of them except for RE4 was essentially a clone of the first RE and all of their plots except for RE4 have been laughably bad and laden with terrible voice acting

basically all the RE games other than RE4 weren't that great and this game looks more in the style of RE4 and that's a good thing

also I heard on some preview on TV that this RE game will be the first where you fight human soldiers as normal enemies, in the form of African army regulars with AK-47s and such, and there is a GoW/MGS4 style cover dynamic.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

I think this will add an interesting gameplay element.

Also I have no idea why you'd be fighting against the military units since they are also fighting the infected

probably because the original games, with their lackluster controls and cliche zombie plots and bad voice acting, possessed some camp value/personality, and re4 is a homogeneous action game with awkward controls and kind of dull gameplay and it's not scary or creepy at all, but at the same time it doesn't have any of the charm that the original games had!  it's like comparing SCREAM to some really shitty 80s horror movie.  yes, it is technically a better movie, but it's not really any more interesting for its improvements, and in fact it's actually pretty boring.  i guess if you like BLAND ACTION GAME then yes re4 is a huge step in the right direction, but before it, the series, WHILE BAD, had some level of personality that's almost completely gone at this point.  it was never really creepy to begin with aside from startling you with HANDS STICKING IN THROUGH WINDOWS (i think re4 did this same kind of thing anyway), but on the whole i think it was a more worthwhile attempt at survival horror than the newer incarnations are.

also i miss individual zombies being THREATS.  they throw so many goddamn zombies at you now, and your weapon upgrades are so ridiculously powerful by the end, that aside from the odd chainsaw guy there's really no danger associated with anything unless they pile up into large groups.  it was more intense when it was just A HUNTER or a couple zombies across the hall and you had a weak ass pistol and not very many bullets for it and you totally knew that even 1 on 1 they could easily kill you by just jumping across the hall and decapitating you or sneaking up on you or something.

I dunno I thought RE4 was pretty campy too

and I thought there was tension even if it was like FAKE tension but it's essentially the same to me as if you're Mario and jumping over a bunch of shit and really they're not hard jumps but you have to keep track of what you're doing so much and I mean even though RE4 is easier it's more of a matter of paying attention to what the hell is going on imo where the old resident evils were like ok I hope I don't run into an invisible collision box and get mauled by this random zombie

Edit: Ok so it's not enough like that towards the end but when you really think back there's a lot of stuff you need to pay attention to, like this guy is readying himself to throw an axe at you so I'd better shoot him and forget about everyone else, and make sure I have my shotgun or a grenade ready in case chainsaw guy comes out of nowhere etc etc.

Edit: What I'm trying to say is earlier REs might have been hard games but RE4 is CHALLENGING game as in it seems easy but really there's a lot of shit you're doing to make sure you stay alive - I said RE4 is like an rpg before, again I think it's like that because it's got this really HOLISTIC way of making sure you don't die, like in rpgs you have to make sure everyone's healed as well as judging between an effective attack vs. a costly one which even though there is ammo up the wazoo when you think of it as MP or something that's exactly what you're doing in RE4

Headphonics - I dunno, I thought RE4 was pretty good at atmosphere and gameplay, and was a huge leap forward from the previous REs I played. It's still absolutely nothing compared to the incredibly creepy and cool looking preview video they'd originally had for RE4 where Leon was in the mansion fighting the Hooked Man and those scary dolls.

RE4 was never really meant to be SCARY I don't think, unless the designers are stupid enough to think it is...
