Summer time for college/university students usually means four months of backbreaking or soul-exanguinating labour in order to make tuition and rent for the upcoming year. Over the past four years, I've had at least half a dozen summer jobs, only one of which I have enjoyed and gone back to. However, I've gotten fed up with this system, quit my jobs, and my last day of work proper is tomorrow.

Which leaves me with the predicament of what in god's gravy am I supposed to do for the rest of the summer. I have thought it over and I should probably get another summer job; something light and enjoyable, where good pay isn't important, I just want to have fun for the next few months until school comes back into the limelight. So, use this thread to suggest fun things I could do for a summer job, or talk about summer jobs you've had, or whatever it is you are doing this summer to make scratch.

Well, I went from a part-time $6.50/hour job at a children's secondhand store to now working full-time as a counselor at a summer day camp for 6-12 year olds where I get paid $8.50/hour to go swimming, bowling, and to the movies.  I also get to peg kids with dodge balls.  I'm liking my summer job...
Can creativity be consistent?

Christ I need a new job. Like... christ. I was going to do work study for the community college I go to over the summer (I commute 50 minutes every day to go to class during fall and spring semester) buuuttt gas prices are insane and I don't know if I can afford to spend $16 in gas to earn $40 a day or whatever. I'm looking for more local jobs but there isn't a whole lot available in our town of 4000.

:( summer is getting really boring and everyday I feel like AGH I really wish I was making money right now!

McDonalds again. I really should be a manager but since I don't have a car they won't let me (not that the non-salary managers make much more than I make anyway). But yeah pretty much full-time which sucks because it leaves me very little time to work on my big thesis this summer (when i am supposed to be working on it).

Don't know where else to apply :(

I've applied at future shop, london drugs, the library, costco, and some others...
Any recommendations on less-shitty things!?

And to think I turned down a possible chance to work a few months fulltime $10/h at some scout camping sort of deal, teaching kids how to light fires and canoe and whatnot
fuck it all, dd is dead

Desperately looking for a job now :(

I'm really really hoping that either Club Monaco or Mexx hires me. That'd be awesome.

If not...I'll either accept another retail store offer, or if I'm REALLY desperate, I know an okay telemarketing place, but I fucking hate doing that.

I actually find that one of the problems that people have looking for jobs is that they really don't look very hard, or for that matter, the sheer number of jobs that are actually out there for people willing to do them. Something like working at a kennel, for example, to asphalt sealing, to office assistant. To be honest, I have never had much trouble finding WORK, but finding a fun and stimulating place to work is something different entirely.

To be honest, I mostly just want to keep busy, be good at what I do, and hang around smart people who will get my jokes.

I've been working part-time as a Pharmacy student in a pharmacy close to my house (about a 5-10 minute drive) throughout the schoolyear, and now I've been working full-time. My job is like a hybrid between a Pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician. I do all the tech roles PLUS I get to counsel on all the drugs that I already covered in school. It's pretty neat because I'm essentially being paid to get experience and learn from more experienced pharmacists the things I'll need to know when I graduate in 2 years time.

I'm a waiter this summer. I work at an obscure Sushi restaurant called Memories of Japan, which offers some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. I can't say the restaurant itself is very attractive, it's kind of a hole in the wall strip mall joint, but the food makes up for it completely. It seems like a lot of my friends who are waiters make a LOT of money if they find a good restaurant (also, if they good at waiting!) This is my first time waiting tables so naturally I'm still learning, but I'm getting better, the tips aren't bad, and the hours are really easy, so I can't complain.

I'm currently in the middle of my traineeship in a consulting/training company. It's a mandatory part of my studies and lasts 5 months. Basically my work is basic office stuff - copy that, print this, fix printer, fix computer, repeat. There are some better projects I'm involved in, but honeslty, I mostly do stuff no one else wants to do or has time to do. I guess that's the fate of a trainee huh?

Thankfully I managed to negotiate a 15 day vacation for myself in july.
<Drule> I can play the didgeridoo actually
<Drule> some guy on the street taught me

<Drule> it was pretty gross how I played on his didgeridoo

I'm working summer computer camps at my university for three weeks, it makes me as much money as I would have made all summer at my job last year (scanning sheets of paper for a doctor's office trying to convert to digital files).

basically my job is computer matienence for my old high school and a few other schools in the area where I live.  Basically I just fix computers, update software, haul out old computers, set up new computers, etc.   It's not bad and I get 10 bucks an hour for it.  it's usually about 8 hours a day, and 4-5 days a week (sometimes I get a day off in the week, but I haven't yet so far :( )

my job is hard to define since I pretty much do everything that can be asked of someone who works in a kitchen. I do a lot of dish washing, but I also do a lot of food prep and on our one night a week we get regular dinner business (friday) I cook on the line so yeah. Mostly we just cater for our golf outings though, setting up a buffet or whatever. Its pretty intense work and the shifts are usually really long and even on days where there is nothing food-wise to be done it can be backbreaking because kitchens get dirty really quick and certain cleaning jobs need done fairly frequently (cleaning out the deep fryers) and since I am the youngest employee in the kitchen I usually get stuck with the bitch work.

I only get paid 8 dollars an hour and I have to request off a month in advance. its a shitty job, but at least I have one. most of my friends cant find one at all.

I work at Eddie Bauer at the Eaton Centre for $9/h and it it isn't that great (it's not awful either, though, so I don't complain)!

However they aren't giving me enough shifts because of drastic overhiring, so I might get a job at Home Depot because I am starting hate retail anyways (while Home Depot is technically retail it's mostly moving stock and stuff so that is better for me).

I'm thinking about being one of the counselors in the local school district's ESS system. I would get paid $12 an hour, from 2-6, Monday to Friday. Kids? Pretty easy. Better than babysitting at home.

Then for the weekends I will be flipping signs for $10 an hour, from 10 to 4.

Life? Nah.
