Doppleganger's pips () are so classy. I hope they get chosen.

Whoa wait Doppleganger, I'm assuming the colors are for members, admins, global mods, mods, and staff? Will regular members have yellow or, like, gray or something?

I believe, while the pips are unnecessary, the post count is definitely useful to see how active a member has been. It's not like it's doing any harm where it is, and I actually tend to loosely identify members with their post count (but only the members who change their name often). I used to be concerned about my post count way back when I joined but as I matured I stopped caring about it. It is still nice to have.
Well, it is not like the post count is going away, it is just that it will not be on the topic view screen. You will be able to view it by going to a person's profile regardless. You would have to go to a person's profile to identify them by their user name anyway should they change their name and you not recognize them, so I don't see why it makes it any more or less difficult to identify someone if you remove post counts from the topic view.

As I said in the original post, people who submit pips will have to adjust them to the colors we decide on for all the member groups, I assume these are just samples.

You know what'd be neat? If instead of the pips going horizontally across, dopple's lego pips could go vertically up to the left of your avatar, like a tower of legos. Perhaps this would be a nightmare to code for leafo, but a tower of legos would be fun to see.

EDIT: Actually now that I've thought about it, it'd look kind of ugly if it gets too tall...

Oh, right.

Mateui that's a pretty interesting idea. Maybe only two levels up, or something?

it would be simple to code just I don't know how to position it to make it fit in (with varying avatar heights and all) I could try putting it next to the member data. Personally I use forums with avatars off so I am not sure. I will experiment with the idea tonight when I get home.

I also browse with avatars off, so you'd have to add an option to remove pips altogether if we did this.

holy shit thats pretty odd, I was just making vertical pips actually! At first I had some sort of animated idea, but then I did something else entirely

I dont expect them to be used, because the idea is ridiculously silly, and possibly very hard to implement. Also theyre pretty large, though that could be corrected.

BEHOLD THE FAST FOOD PIPS

The idea is to start with the two pieces of bread, and the added "pips" are stacked, randomly picked toppings. Different member types could be represented with cola bottles behind the burger or french fries. Harrrrrrrrr
But yeah its SILLY and I mostly did it for fun and not expecting anything :o

To make it work youd have to display the images in a certain order, and they'd have to partly overlap, so maybe thatd be really hard or long to implement.

But itd look awwwwesome imo

That's really neat!

By the way it was really fun building stuff out of the legos.

Not really, I still think yours are pretty terrible. And while I wouldn't say my pips are practical as forum pips (I only made them for fun), I don't really find them ugly, at least in comparison with your stuff.

They look great (really nice job Psychosckull!) but they would be terrible for this forum. I'm sorry but I don't want to see burgers all over the pages much the same as I don't like seeing DICKS flying around the screen.

So far I really like Doozer's pips and goldenratio's second set of pips, but the rest look really good. although I wouldn't mind no pips at all either.
