Has anyone even understood my suggestion that mind uploading would make things a lot easier? It seems like people are rather attached to arbitrary physicality.

Works in theory (and actually is ideal), but a lot of trust goes in to this sort of thing. Are you going to trust the doctors/scientists who put you in this state? How about people with agendas like politicians? Once your mind is digital, think about how easy it would be to modify... maybe even without your knowledge.

IDK about you guys but if the government of Canada suddenly told me how many babies I could and couldn't have I'd probably start a war over it. That is a violation of such a fundamental right, that the communists might be able to get away with, but I would see it as such a violation of my personal freedom that I would be terrified of what else the state might suddenly decide is in the "best interest" of humanity. You can be sure as hell that I probably wouldn't go along with it.

I don't think an enforced LAW on children allowed per parent would be right, but I think that alot of sex education and maybe a campaign for smaller families could help out with overpopulation.

So many children are born from YOUNG PARENTS who aren't ready for it, I think thats where the majority of this stuff comes into play (in the US). You don't really see a married couple over the age of 25 with more than a few kids nearly as much as you see some dipshit just out of highschool (or even still in) with like four kids all of whom have different fathers.


And east Asia is fucking BAD when it comes to overpopulation and pumping shit into the ocean. I remember being a few hundred miles off the coast of china and you could SMELL that shit in the air at night, it was disgusting.

So you'd rather breathe, eat, and sleep in shit then die?

I think it would probably help if we could at least agree on whether or not it's a problem in the first place.  Does anyone have any interesting facts or future projections?  So far I've seen THE EARTH WILL FILL UP AND WE WILL DIE and DUDE IT'S NOT EVEN A PROBLEM. 

Personally, I think colonization of other planets in our solar system would be something to seriously look into, but only if people could get past the whole "omg it'll cost billions that we could use for war" thing.  If we could at least get a small percentage of our population romping around in bubble suits on Mars then I probably wouldn't feel so bad about my girlfriend waxing her mane down with hairspray every morning. 

Plus I'd really just like to wear a bubble suit.

This is true to a degree, but generally, most people have grandparents. Pair that with siblings, and you have population overload.

I would say that our populations is increasing at an alarming rate, this year alone there is supposed to be 60,000 babies delivered in our main hospital!!! There are 5 large hospitals and 2 smaller ones in my city and that is not including the private practices or home births that would occur as well.

There are about 4% on average province to province of births that are done in the home with a registered nurse or doctor supervising. Every 5 seconds there is supposed to be a birth on earth, if you include animals it's every half a second.

Because there is less money to go around these days people turn to that fleshy comfort of sex and because of lack of education in contraception there are more people getting pregnant when they shouldn't. AND there are more people now having families of 5 or more (close to what the baby boom age was) in the last few years (mostly because of invitro or hormone therapy causing multiple births). Since so many are turning to the alternative way of getting pregnant because thier bio-clocks are ticking that last few ticks they are going for methods that cause multiple births.

PEOPLE just need to get smart about sex and get smart about money, and find something better to do, ride a friggen bike or go swimming... sex cannot be the best activity to do.... I in all honesty hope that I do in fact only have a girl and boy or at the very least a son. I don't need more kids than that (unlike the rest of the populace who wants two of each)

EDIT: I just needed to rant a little on that, especially since I get to witness girls who are 13 having babies... ridiculous.

This topic made me lose so much faith in humanity. Jesus Christ, Sterilisation programs, laws about the amount of children? Fuck, do you support the disappearing of pensioners as well?

the most fucked up thing is when people divorce who already have children and get together with someone else and say "we need a child of our own" because apparently their current kids do not count. also i agree on the adoption thing. i am unsure why more people don't do this. the common excuse i hear is that there are a lot of HOOPS to jump through but one would assume this is easier than, you know, 9 months of pregnancy.

Or 18+ years of raising a child.

On some youtube video about abortion there was a woman that said that she hated women who aborted their babies because she couldn't have any of her own and adopting was hard.  All I could think was WELL IT'S KIND OF A GOOD THING SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT THEIR BABIES BECAUSE THAT GIVES YOU THE CHANCE TO HAVE ONE OF THEIRS...ALSO IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE OF ADOPTING HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RAISE A CHILD???

Basically if you want a child but can't go through the work to adopt one, you probably don't need one.

as someone who is now probably sterile, I actually looked up the process behind IV fertilization and it is SO INSANELY LONG AND PAINFUL, seriously. like a fuckton of injections and shit for months at a time. I basically don't get the point of in vitro unless you really think MY GENES RULE.

I am sort of conflicted because myself and my current girlfriend (well you you never know a person needs to consider all possibilities) think that adoption is the way to go and neither of us want to put more people onto the crowded planet.  However I think my genes are at least of average or better quality and I am my father's only son so I think that it would be sort of a waste of reasonably useful genetic material!
