I've read articles about how silly patents are ruining the game industry and that patents shouldn't even be offered for videogame software innovations because they are not inherently useful because videogames fall under art/entertainment. Its like Da Vinci patenting the bust portrait for having done the mona lisa.

What would the Vocals do?  You're more likely to get Digital Love or One More Time than Aerodynamic.
Fuck the vocals, the solo in Aerodynamic is like sweet sweet nectar. But I would like to see One More Time or Stronger. Especially Stronger, seeing someone doing the vocals towards the end when the the beat is uptempo would be hilarious.

yeah, having packs of songs for different groups of people would be really cool

that being said, I guess this list is OK. I'm happy about Modest Mouse, Dinosaur Jr., Journey, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Chili Peppers, but not much else on here sounds good.

i don't think there's any critic harsher than a music critic.  you've got your art critics which sit up on their ivory towers and bemoan about the lack of "technical skills" or whatever but they don't completely shun art of all forms and will recognize it when there's actually some emotional weight or meaning behind the piece.

but music... god damn.  it's like high school where people form certain cliques and refuse to hang out with anyone different than them.  one of the chief complaints of GTA san andreas was that there were two fucking rap channels and only one rock channel.  one of the complains in GTA IV was that the radio wasn't as "diverse" as it was in vice city (even though GTAIV had three times the track list or something the real reason is because it had western european music, reggae, regaton, and two rap stations).

now that the whole music genre games are getting more popular people are bitching that lynard skinnard/acdc/whatever-stupid-band doesn't get enough attention because lord knows developers can read minds and create a songtrack based on your personal favorites which i guarantee you will be vehemently hated by the next guy who wants the entire track to be pop and techno.

except that the game is called ROCK BAND and instead of putting stuff a lot people will actually like, they just bloat the game with a bunch of southern rock and metal which have pretty limited fan bases and are basically just included because of technical skill.

EDIT: I mean I understand it in singstar because the game is based around pop music and so I don't begrudge it for lack of my interests in music but rock band.

I wonder if they bothered to fix one of the frustrating things about the first Rock Band.  That being allowing all controllers to press buttons when selecting a song.  It's kind of annoying when someone keeps switching the tracklist or backing out of the song menu either by accident or because they weren't paying attention.  Giving the controls at the song screen to only one person (Band Leader perhaps) would be a very simple, and helpful, tweak.

The GW of three years ago would still be creaming themselves over the Dream Theater.

how do they pick their songs, though?  that's not a bad dinosaur jr song but like, it's not even one of their bigger ones i don't think.  i really would've liked to see raisans or out there or green mind or freak scene or pick me up or something a bit more notable!

Ok, cool.  I read the features and Guitar Hero: World Tour sounds like it's doing more with this concept.

In one quick scan, I counted about 22 songs that I'm interested in playing, plus several more I'm sure I'd probably like.  That's probably more than what I liked from the original Rock Band song list.  And with DLC, I downlowded more songs I like anyway.

When you talk about the high price tag, are you talking about the full-contains-all-the-instruments price?  I assume there will be a separate game-only release, too.  I already own Rock Band and I doubt I'll dish out for new instruments (barring something breaking).

Yeah, I don't own the original Rock Band or it's instruments.

And to choose PANIC! at the disco, and Linkin' Park, it makes my heart sink. :(

Well, maybe if you bought more than one copy they wouldn't have to put in songs to attract the emo population. Which I'm guessing constitutes a good portion of the players.

Also, about the whole thing about Konami sucking for suing the creators of this game... it's the same exact concept. PRESS  X BUTTON NOW, 5 MILLION POINTS. NOW PRESS TRIANGLE, ONLY 2.7 MILLION POINTS THIS TIME. YOU HAVE MORE THAN 6 MILLION POINTS, NEXT ROUND. Yes, they should be sued cause of the patents.

then what's your definition of ROCK because based on rockbands instruments any song that includes a geetar, bass, and drums constitutes as ROCK.  i guess i'm in the minority of people who play these kinds of games because it's fun especially when everyone gets drunk and starts dancing around the room but who honestly pays 60 bux for a butchered low quality version of their favorite song just so they press colored keys to the beat?  i guess there aren't many people who just enjoy seeing how well their reflexes go up against a variety of music and would rather gawk at the back of the box going "JESUS CHRIST LED ZEPP MAH FAVORITE BAND GOTTA PLOP DOWN MAD MONEY FOR THIS SHIT!"

although i don't condone throwing out money for it when there's a minority of songs you like...

the fact is, usually the songs you like are...you know...more fun to play?

idk i had some longer argument for this in my head and upon typing it a few times, i've erased it and decided not to try as i'm too tired and my head is spewing shit that'd make no sense.
