We were discussing some electronica and hip-hops on IRC and it made me listen to one of my favorite Sage Francis songs. It's a short song but it's pretty awesome and has great atmosphere.

Luna Sea - Rosier

I've been listening to this a bit lately and learning to play it on guitar. Pretty catchy song, even if it's in japanese (lol japfag hz). Does anyone know of any similarly styled english bands? Catchy hard rock kinda stuff?

Bruce Haack - I.F.O.

This is a pretty neat song from one of Bruce Haacks unreleased albums. Bruce Haack was an electronic instrument pioneer who invented some pretty strange instruments and made electronic music for kids. He made one album in 1970, Electric Lucifer, that wasn't for kids and this song was from the unreleased follow-up. It's a really nice song and it's a shame it was never released!

you know i don't know how reasonable i am being buuuuut, i feel like there should be more discussion in this topic!  it's like everyone comes in, goes through other posts, posts their stuff, and leaves.  i think the idea of posting videos of the songs is so you can talk about them right there instead of just moving on to whatever the next guy is listening to!

Yeah, there's no doubt that people should be allowed to discuss music but I always considered this topic more a repository for neat music to listen to while you're bored or want to hear something new than a real discussion topic. That's what I use the topic for at least, to look through when I want to hear something new. But yeah, if people want to talk about music go ahead, I don't think think there should be any reason not to.

Well I guess that you can't exactly make people have a discussion but I will possibly start commenting alot more on other videos.
I know that I always at least look at other peoples links and I find alot of the stuff pretty interesting so I rarely just post my own stuff then leave.

edit: Hybrid I find Japanese language in music pretty hard to take seriously! Makes me feel like I am watching an anime or a fan video for an anime heh.

actually this kind of reminds me of the Zappa video as far as it has a lot of rapid shots and drinking and smoking and peoples and colors and general bolloxing around (well that's what they'd say)

says it's Squarepusher - Psultan

Panda I haven't really listened to alot of bands with Japanese vocals tbh so it just automatically makes me think of one of those cheesy anime theme songs or something. It takes a little getting used to for me I guess. I'm mainly used to Swedish or Hebrew lyrics if I am listening to foreign language. I don't see how this is particially weird or whatever.

That cd is pretty good Luigi, the new album was so shit though. I downloaded some of their eps a while back and they are on the same level as this album also so check em out if you haven't already.

Agreed, Gloria was garbage. There's a few okay tracks, but most of it is just "what? is this the same band?". Their EPs are good but not quite on the level of BtToS imo.

I can kind of see where you are coming from because whenever someone recommends me a Japanese artist, I tend to be really skeptical about it (unless it's electronica because I know fairly many good Japanese electronica artists) and you can blame anime openings / j-pop for that. I don't really agree with your view on Japanese vocals though, because if you have actually heard anything besides generic j-pop or j-rock, you'd know that having Japanese vocals doesn't equal to it sounding like an anime opening. But yeah, I have my prejudices even though I probably shouldn't! I also think this is because almost all the anime fans have horrible taste in music and you can't help but associate that with Japan.

because it is just kind of silly.  there is a ton of shitty music in the english language too, and yeah there are a lot of bad j-pop groups, but considering japan has well over a hundred million people living in it, you can't seriously believe that there aren't a lot of good bands/legit musical acts there.  i just think it is pretty nonsensical to dismiss an ENTIRE LANGUAGE because you don't like a genre of pop music that's in it.  you wouldn't think it was weird if someone said "NAH I DONT LIKE ENGLISH BANDS... the backstreet boys have turned me off to the entire scene"???  you shouldn't write off an entire large nation of culture and people just because you DISLIKE ANIME.

I never said that there aren't any good/legit bands in Japan! That would be blatant ignorance. I didn't even dismiss the ENTIRE LANGUAGE. As I said when I clarified earlier I simply found it a little hard to get used to as I hadn't listened to a whole lot of it, which is pretty fair!

my apologies if it seemed that way

In unrelated music news, Opeth is touring Europe with .....  CYNIC and I've recently watched studio footage from their second album.

Currently listening to Ulver-The future sound of music

Some strange electronic shiiiit

Edit: Hahaha it was slipknot The Catamites, fuck it is terrible but yeah I don't know why it didn't work and I can't be bothered fixing it.

btw the ocean are also opening for opeth in their eurotour (opeth, the ocean and cynic) and all three are fucking awesome, going to see them in december and it's going to be pretty much one of the best gigs ever.
