i've been listening to bob dylan's "bringing it all back home" perpetually. it has that nice combination of folk plus rock sound that sounds so sweet to my ears. it has that "fuck you" folk tone, but not so abrasive as freewheeling bob dylan where he busts into an unmixed harmonica interlude that bleeds your ears. he definitely has a new approach to lyrics here, too, yet i still like the whole protest atmosphere of his original music.

I'm listening to the new Arcade Fire album, and it's not that great. They've changed up their timbre and it sounds so bland now. Their songs used to really take me into a distant and haunting place, but now their recordings just sound like ordinary instruments and the vocals are timid.

I've never been able to get into Oxbow for whatever reason. I looked up some Don Martin Three after your post, and they are okay but I don't really care for the vocals most of the time, although I do catch what you mean about it appearing to follow much the same formula. To me, though, they're just one of those bands that make me want to listen to At the Drive-In instead. I have a weird issue with music sometimes, if I like a band that sounds a certain way, hearing other bands that sound like that (or seem to be trying), grates on my patience.

Since I just got back into my "noise rock" phase, or whatever it should be called, I've also started listening to Shellac again.
