Can anyone recommend any games on the pc which contain a good level editor?
How easy are they to use and is it worth playing around with the level editor or do most people just stick with original levels?

Any advice is appreciated, im just curious cause i think it would be cool to create a 3d environement you can walk and play around in especially if its online with friends.

The best editor I've seen is for any of the Trackmania games.  It's a racing game, but the tracks are hella fun to make.

I'd love to see an FPS with level editors like Timesplitters again though.

And I remember having loads of fun with Tenchu 2's level editor!

I remember there was like some sample level called TENCHU INC. or something and it was like a typical Japanese office building except... with ninjas

it was like Hideo Kojima's wet dream I think

Edit: I was looking up Excitebike and there's this other game called Wrecking Crew that sounds familiar and yet I've never seen it ever

Gears of War PC Edition comes with the Gears Editor, which pretty much boils down to being a level editor...  It's a level editor in the sense that UNREAL EDITOR IS A LEVEL EDITOR, though, so you'd best have time to learn your way through it.  You can make some REALLY impressive stuff with it, though, and it's all shit that looks GREAT on a resume if you want to go be a level designer or something.

And, yes, this is true.  My roommate is working for Midway right now and they were very impressed by the work we did on the Gears level we made a few months back.

If strategy game map editors count I recommend Starcraft and Warcraft (1 and 2, 3 if you like working with 3D!!!). It also conesquently teaches you the RPG Maker language aswell. You can do all sorts of neat things with it using the Trigger editor, plus the importing and exporting of models was pretty cool to me.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

StarCraft? It has a decent map editor, if that counts. And there's a buttload of shit they've made on the internet that makes it even more flexible.

I remember I thought Fighter Maker for the PS would be really fun but that game sucked so bad - they didn't even have any way to customize appearance until the PS2 version

Duke Nukem 3d was the first editor I used, aside from Excitebike.  The editors for the Unreal games are awesome as well.  I heard Hammer for the source engine games is fantastic, and the editors for Farcry and Crysis are equally awesome.

Also, the obligatory Morrowind and Oblivion editors spawned a modding revolution.

Crysis comes with the best level editor around. Check it out. You can dive right into the game from the editor screen without any loadtimes either.

HELL YES. I have succeeded in making some of the hardest, most soul crushing tracks known to man. (Trackmania Nations is free through Steam, too)

Free through anything. Save yourself some time and don't get it through steam.
