So this is it! The final games of the season. It's been an exciting and heated match throughout, and finally it will come to a climactic end. Some teams have undergone tumultuous downfalls, while others climbed arduously to the ranks of glory, and others still, rode the waves of success all season long. All that would mean nothing, however, without the grand finale we are all about to partake in!
Immortalz (61) vs Dirtsheet (46)Last week, the heavily favored Immortalz lay waste to the perseverant Dirtsheet in a 61 - 46 defeat. The Immortalz pulled through almost entirely with a winning performance by Steve Smith, and two excellent displays by the rather unsuspected Jets defense and Minnesota secondary running back, Chester Taylor. Is this how a championship team should look? I think so. It is calls like that that win the big games. Anybody can start Tom Brady day in and day out and hope to win, but it takes a lot more to risk who you start based on their matchups.
Jotuns (51) vs Board of Education(45)The Jotuns finally put to rest the Board in a mirror match from last week. After securing a playoff spot with the original win, the Jotuns were hungry for more, and delivered in a 51 - 45 upset. For the Board; Roddy White, Marvin Harrison, and Ronnie Brown having less than stellar days, all but sealed his fate. Relying on a running back like Maurice Morris couldn't have helped either. The Jotuns procured a well balanced team, with Antonio Bryant and the Minnesota D leading the ranks. For a team that has done so well all season, it must hurt to be used as a stepping ladder in the last two games, but such is the ruthless game of Fantasy Football.
Notable in the consolation matches, was the ongoing decline of the Blades. A team that surely should have made it further than battling for 7th place, one can not help but feel bad for their constant misfortune. Sprankton and Shinobars will be duking it out for 5th place, astonishingly they entered the playoffs at 8th and 7th respectively.
PREVIEW GAMES
Immortalz(1) vs Jotuns(3)
For the last two years the Immortalz have been the number one seed, and have been knocked out of the playoffs the first round each time. To add insult to injury, they have lost the the third place match each time as well. Looking to put all that behind, and to claim the championship title they deserve, the Immortalz will no doubt enter this match swinging. The Jotuns already have two championships under their belts, as well as a second place victory last year. This year they are looking to keep their championship percentage over .500, and no holds will be barred.
Will the Jotuns ragtag team (comprised almost entirely of waivers of and late round draft picks) be able to hold up against the consistently dangerous roster the Immortalz have boasted all season? Only time will tell!
Dirtsheet(4) vs Board of Education(2)
Last year the Board was seeded at number two, and lost out in the first round of the playoffs. They did end up going on to claim third place, however. This year the Board is looking to maintain their third-place reign. Dirthsheet (as far as I know) is relatively new to the playoff scene, and is hoping to make a mark in the GW FF history.
That's all I got. I've run out of steam.
