What the heck?
Okay, so inspired by the Beijing Olympics which are currently on the rage on the other side of the world, myself and others have come up with some crazy idea to create our own GW Olympics, where the contestants will represent their countries in different events, in an attempt to win the most medals for their country.

This is basically an interest topic to see how many people would want to take part in the different events. You'll be able to take part in as many events as you want, and here are the list of events currently in planning:



Soldat 2v2 Capture the Flag Event
Similar to the old school Soldat tournaments that have taken place in the past, we will be taking teams of two of any nationality to compete in a knock out tournament to win the three medals on offer. The teams will be randomised and put into a bracket, and the teams will battle it out on several different stages until there is are gold, silver and bronze medalists at the finals.


Speedrun Single Level Event
The level will be chosen by a poll and suggestions are open for the single level challenges. When the event begins and the level announced, competitors will be able to send in their medal attempts and be entered onto the leaderboard. But are you fast enough to win a medal?


Netplay Tournament Event
The game hasn't been chosen yet, but get ready for some knock-out tournament event action. Pick your fighter and get training, a medal for your country awaits.


Team Fortress 2 Team Event
Team Fortress 2 was a must for the Olympics, so expect some team battles. Noone is sure what the rules or regulations for this is yet, but they'll eventually be released.


Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament Event
Battle your way to a medal in this SSBB tournament, hopefully it'll be the biggest yet, since the last SSBB tournament that actually happened was before the European version was released. This could be interesting.

Call of Duty 4 Singles Tournament Event
Think you can fair up against others in singles combat? Depending on numbers, this could happen on the 360 or PC version. We'll see how many people are interested first.


Chess Tournament Event
Chess! Because we couldn't forget Chess. How much of an increase to your ego would it be if you were GW Olympic Gold Medalist in Chess. The ladies would be tailing you.


Halo 3 Event
Halo 3 Event, not sure what mode or if we'll be put into teams but get ready for some needler action (i have no idea what that is).


WC3 Event
WC3 is still played around GW in some corner of IRC, so a tournament was needed.


Olympic G&D Mapping Event
Can you become an Olympic G&D Mapping Gold Medalist? Damn right you can.



So let us know if you're interested in taking part in any of these activities. We'll properly take registrations for the events soon since this is just an interest topic.

If you want to suggest any other events you think would be cool, let us know.

I'd definitely be up for a few of these (WC3, Chess, maybe Soldat and TF2 if I get a little better).

i wouldn't be able to participate in much of these since i don't have a console or familiarity with most of these games, but i'd definitely be down for chess and soldat maybe speedrun as well  (imo we should do starcraft instead of wc3 tho)

Needs love for PS3 and not just the 260 and Wii!

I play Warcraft 3 everyday, so I'm in for that. I didn't know anyone around here played it. I'm used to 2v2 AT, but I can switch to 1v1 if needed. Also sign me up for chess as well!!!

I'm in for Speedrun, Chess, Netplay, TF2, and WC3 if I can find my disks.

Also what are we going to do about the multiplayer games?  Have private servers running pirate versions or do we need to buy games just for this event that we already own for 360

Heh, we can't have that, after all the only reason people pirate any video game that isn't some old or obscure collector's item like Panzer Dragoon Saga is that they are terrible people and deserve to be fucking shot in the street.... (just playing around with ya. ;d)

I dunno can't speak for other events but, TF2 requires you to have the actual game cause of Steam, Netplay will be using ROMs (as usual), and the same for the Speedrun most likely.

This is a great idea! I'm definitely in for SSB:B and maybe a few others.

I'm always up for Speed Run and net play comps, but i wouldn't mind doing Soldat and WC3(or any other rts) as well

I'll do speed run, as long as it isn't like the last level of a really hard game.
