Hey whatup

Anyone know any GOOD Hl2 mods? Currently I only have Zombie Panic Source and while it could be a really fun game it's just feels pretty SLUGGISH and has some collision problems and boring maps.

I was looking Zombie Master earlier but I don't know, BETA kinda turns me away, especially after Zombie Panic Source.

So what I'm looking for is some good multiplayer mods (with active userbase), zombie mods are pretty great imo but anything goes pretty much. I've been googling around and have these huge lists of mods but the problem is that I have no idea if they are any good AT ALL and if they have any players playing them. I don't really trust some 4/5 stars review so I'd prefer you guys saying what you think is good and what is not.

EDIT:
DLing Jailbreak right now and I'm going to work now.

Jailbreak is fun if you can get a game going.

Hidden: Source  <--- A 1vX game where one dude is invisible, has a knife and pipebombs, people with guns must kill him. It's gr8
Zombie Master Source <-- must get.
Insurgency <-- Real time war game simulator. Involves US & Taliban generally. Is pretty realistic so get shot and YOU DIE.
Minerva <--- idk if you want to include Single Player mods, but this mod has better mapping (IMHO) than the actual Half Life 2 games, and a great story. Must get.

preferably multiplayer only thanks.

EDIT: Jailbreak seems abandoned, 0 players on the 10 or so servers.

Going for Zombie Master Source now.

EDIT: Zombie Master doesn't seem too impressive, I think this is due to shitty maps I played and eastern european players talking in voice.

Hidden next

EDIT2325: Actually screw hidden it looks really dumb and all the DL links are gayed up.

Man Hidden is actually really fun and at peak times (ie: not 4 in the morning in the US) has a lot of people on it. It isn't dumb, in fact it's rather balanced. You'd think the hidden has the advantage but good players won't die so easy.

Also Zombie Master is great on good servers! Like really really good. Need a good ZM tho.

I tried out this game called Empires it was kinda neat. So was Pirates, Vikings, Knights 2. Both had servers I could play on even in not-peak times. PVK2 had a cool combat system, and Empires is like the Battlefield games, tons of vehicles etc.

There's also this great mod called Team Fortress 2, it rules.

Yea I know and I'm definetly getting it, BUT it's a 2008 game thus I can't run it before spending a fortune on new hardware so I'd like something similar to satisfy my hunger for zombies until then.

Well I might be able to run it but if it's as big as TF2 and shit my fps will be like 10 whenever there's more than 1 guy on the screen and its a ZOMBIE HORDE game so yeah.

My only problems with Zombie Panic Source is that:

A. It always ends up with survivors camping in a ventilation shaft with shotguns, making it impossible for zombies to win
B. Survivors should have like 3 or 2 lives before they get turned into zombies
C. Zombies need more attacks and the lunge is absolutely horrible because it doesn't refill afaik.
D. The collision physics are REALLY gay, it's a miracle if you get past a wooden plank that's barely blocking even your toes. I wish it would be more like TF2 in that department, as in fluid and nongay.

You can try running TF2 in DX8?

Go to Steam Game List, right click Team Fortress 2, Properties, Set Launch Options, then enter the following:
-dxlevel 80

Then load the game, and when you're on the title screen close out, remove the tag, and reopen it. Tada! TF2 is running in DX8 and now you can change your options all you want (dxlevel 80 when tagged won't let you change em). Should run better. By should, I mean will, and by better, I mean an assload better.

I have config files and some launch options set so it's pretty optimized, well, as optimized as I can get it to be. Which is like playable but ugly and laggy at times.

Yeah ok, so I've been though like 23592853 different mods and they are all either ABANDONED or SHITTY. I picked up SDK just to try and make my own damn zombie maps.

did you play on the vortex servers for ZP? they have classes and shit so zombie isn't as boring. they can all do different stuff, berserking, leaping, ones a medic. the survivors get classes too but only 2 of them are any fun.

of course there is still the same collision issues on boxes and survivors camping vents and stuff.

Yea ok so I tried teh vortex servers and:

1. It's in the US or whatever so I have 150+ ping
2. The classes are nice but the key binds are just ass, like if I understood correctly you can only bind a-b-c-d-e-f-g and they're scattered all over  the keyboard + I already use some of those for some basic movement.
3. The players were 14+ year olds who threathened each other with LOL IMA SEND YOU A VIRYS SAY GOODBYE TO UR PC HEH EHE.... HOW CAN HE GET MY IP? HE CANT DESTROY MY COMPUTER RIGHT!?!?!?!!??!
4. There were some of the worst maps I've ever seen in any game, like as bad as the ORANGE maps in tf2.

So basically if there would be another server, european preferably, with decent players and better key binds it would be great but right now it's just a mess.

just like to remind everyone that today at 8-10pm Central Euro times, 5 mods chosen by Valve are all going to be released as official Steam games with Steamworks and getting BIG updates, which means these games will now support updating over Steam, Achievements, stat tracking in Steam, etc.

These games are:
-Age of Chivalry
-Synergy (YEA!)
-Insurgency (YEA!)
-Zombie Panic Source (eh)
-D.I.P.R.I.P. (EVERYONE NEEDS TO FUCKING PLAY THIS GAME. it's ONLINE FREE MULTIPLAYER TWISTED METAL, what is not to like!!)

of these, DIPRIP and AoC are gonna have Achievements, I dun think Synergy, Insurgency, or ZP:S will, but they will make use of the other Steamworks features.

Well I don't know how AoC is but I do know that Synergy is pretty cool. Insurgency I hated because it's just a realistic war-simulator and there's like a 10000x of those and they all blow. Zombie Panic Source, well I've already said what's wrong with it and no one will care about it after L4D comes out in November, and last and least DIPRIP which I have no idea what it is and have never played (and probably never will).

When you mention BIG UPDATES!!111 do you mean that they will all have some big update now/in the near future or do you mean it's now possible for them to get big updates easily through steam??

they're all launching with a BIG UPDATE later today that they've been secretly working on for months, and they'll have bigger more frequent updates since they don't have to make installers and package all the files and be all confusing for people, plus the steam servers will give them faster downloads and such without crashing their servers.

also age of chivalry is a knights vs pirates mod, but DIPRIP is really fucking awesome it just has a low pop (which hopefully thisll fix). :/

age of chilvary is getting its biggest patch today + achievements and stat tracking, diprip is having every bug known fixed with new cars & modes & levels & achievements, synergy is going into Open Beta today, Insurgency is having minor things fixed, and ZPS is getting a version update.

yeah sure, it's all on their sites, and here's the Valve thing, I'll list sources. A lot of these things have been tested on Steam already, in fact the DIPRIP developer has DIPRIP listed in his hours played, it's just in private beta: http://steamcommunity.com/id/sieq

Anyways, sources:
Steam News Article on it: http://storefront.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/message/1843/
Age of Chivalry website mentions it: http://www.age-of-chivalry.com/ (contains change log below, but the Steam release is bigger than that)
Synergy website mentions it: http://synergymod.net/
Insurgency website mentions it: http://www.insurgencymod.net/
Zombie Panic Source website mentions it: http://www.zombiepanic.org/site/index.php (contains a change log)
DIPRIP website mentions it: http://diprip.com/news.php5

This is a huge step forward considering before Valve said they were too small to support. It seems like Valve is ready to support popular mod teams, and their intent is to add more mods later on too.

Man I wish Synergy would've had a changelog too.

But this is what caught my eye:

Quote from: ZPS Change log
-Collision system for teammates similar to TF2 (can walk through teammates, anti-grief system)
This used to be a pretty gamebreaking fault but this really makes the game 100x more fun to play when you aren't battling your own teammates just to get across a hallway.

Lot of other small shit too but I still don't see anywhere that the ZOMBIE POWER meter or whatever would refill which makes it a completely useless feature.

all i know about synergy is they removed a lot of the useless customization options and made it a lot harder (it scales with people) so you can actually die now
