Another jRPG with no thread yet, time to make one! So who has played Infinite Undiscovery? I was really looking forward to it, and was sad to see that it overall didn't get rave reviews that I thought it would. So hopefully Star Ocean 4 and FFXIII will take the bill instead. But regardless, I just finished ToV (clocked in at 54 hours just for the main quest, quite impressive) and wanted to pick this up!

I played about 3 hours of it so far, and it's def. not bad. I like it a lot, it's very different from any RPG I played before, primarly because of the battle system. It's like Kingdom Hearts but without... Donal Duck, definitly a plus. I always wanted to play an RPG with this battle system but one that wasn't cartoony, or didn't suck (Mana series?).

Can't say too much since it's just been 3 hours, but the battle system lags like anything. I dunno, it's weird. It's like, they intentionally put a brief pause before the sword slash? Cause it happens even when I'm fighting just one monster. I don't know, it's not too big of a deal for me, but still kinda sucks. The graphics are great though, def. next gen. material. The music is also really good so far, especially the battle theme, it rocks. There is however really bad lip-synching and a strange lack of voiced dialogue so far.

I have this weird thing were if I BEAT a game (defeat final boss) and watch the ending, I wanna' stop playing the game immediately. I don't know why. To unlock the awesome secret dungeon, Seraphic Gate, you need to beat the final boss, and load the clear data... and I wanna play the dungeon though! So what I'm gonna do, is after I beat the boss, I'll turn the TV off, and come back 30 min. or so later, and save and load the clear data. Haha, that way, I can go through Seraphic Gate, and then go beat the final boss again, and actually see the ending!  :woop:  :woop:

Well, that's basically my consensus of the game so far, what are your thoughts?

This game was so bad that I couldn't even finish it. I bought it the day it came out with high hopes that the 360 would finally have a good jRPG, but no, I am disappointed YET AGAIN.

In short, I took the game back to Gamestop.

nemesis you really seem to champion the most unoriginal and boring games on the 360, whats the deal with that.

I mean seriously what does NEVER PLAYED A GAME LIKE THIS (EXCEPT KINGDOM HEARTS WHICH ITS LIKE) do for anyone.

I was interested in this when I first heard about it, because it was touting ideas that jRPGs NEVER tout, primarily a sandboxy, dynamic approach to gameplay, where you'd actually have multiple paths out of a situation and branching storylines, as well as INTERESTING MINIGAMES that fit into the story instead of RANDOM DICE TOSSING minigames. I haven't played it yet though, so I'm not sure.

idk what the fuck INFINITE UNDISCOVERY means though.

The only good thing I've heard about the game is the storyline. I don't like games that throw 20 characters at you, and expect you to use them all. I watched a few clips on youtube of the gameplay, and it looks like FF12 sort of.

I was waiting for the reviews to see if I was wrong about how decent the game was going to be, but I was right. A 20 hour game definitely isn't getting a buy from me, so at the most I'll probably rent it. Does this game have anything really going for it though? How does it compare to games like FF, Suikoden, etc? Apparently the game is EXTREMELY linear, and you can't do much of anything in terms of sidequests. Not to mention the character design is...ridiculous.

Part of me wants to buy this because I can't even think of the most recent RPG I've played...I seriously haven't played ANY new RPGs (I am buying Rhapsody DS this week but that does not count since it is a port, especially since it's a port of pretty much the first RPG I really played).

At the same time I know this is shit.  But I just feel the need to try out the LATEST AND GREATEST (???) IN RPG TECHNOLOGY.  I won't be buying this though.

I'm with Nemesis, this is definitely a pretty entertaining romp. It's not perfect, far from it, and it doesn't even compare to Lost Odyssey or Eternal Sonata at the best of times, but it trumps all over Blue Dragon (no big achievement, now that I think about). It's got flaws, yeah, but it's very playable and I'm having a roaring time from the last couple of hours with it.

I'm thinking it's gonna be very unmemorable though. Like sorta just another generic RPG (which to be fair applies to most jRPGs today), much like I expect Last Remnant to be.

edit: it has really good music, now that I think about it!

every star ocean ever does suck balls actually and it's gotten progressively worse with each iteration.  it's not a very good series and so3 is just really bad game.  there's nothing about this game or series that would make it reasonable to expect it to be good or even NOT AS BAD as the previous one.

If they somehow make it so bad it equals the absolute piece of shit they call Til the End of Time then Square Enix has officially fucked over Tri-Ace. Star Ocean First Departure looks alright.. Besides the bullshit Anime added. Tri-Cresendo deserve more credit for Eternal Sonata.

I was sorta interested in this til I heard about the insane frame rate issues and other shit.

Okay, I guess a few things tend to bother people a lot more than me...  or maybe I'm more easily entertained and have relatively low standards (the next-gen games still impress me a lot! I'm still used to ps2 stuff), but for me, when I play games, I like:

-fast action and great battle system
-engaging storyline
-fun dungeons
-nice fitting music

The game so far has got all that.

This game isn't unoriginal. It's got a battle system hardly employed in the console rpg field (FFXII and KH are the only two I can cite), and the dungeons are really interactive... in the first 3 hours I had:

-An ogre chase me so I had to dodge around and run like hell while fighting enemies
-Carry a character as I traverse through a field while a dragon tries to breathe fire down my neck
-Lure enemies to a certain area to accomplish a certain task
-Go past an area unable to fight, leading supporting characters to battle for me
-Traverse through a dark forest, lit by only areas with torches

I know some of them are nothing fancy, but the game does provide a lot more area-interaction and situational-aspects that any other rpg I played (ToV was basically running through dungeons battling and nothing else really, not many puzzles at all either)

I do have a bad habit of not playing OTHER types of games, like Halo or Gears of War to cite a few. I really should branch out!

what! star ocean 2 was one of the best rpgs on psx. :( good ol' days..

granted, star ocean 3 was pretty bad (with pretty damn good battle system though..), but if they can come up with a good story and characters there's definitely a chance that it'll turn out pretty great!
