If you're using an emulator, you can just grind by using the speed button.

Keep killing enemies that die in one or two hits but give decent experience. For example, the carpet monster for Duster, or those chicken headed snake things for Lucas.

The good thing is you can avoid over-levelling because you can just run into enemies, and if you're over-levelled they die. Lessens the difficulty of the game without making it too easy.

Matching the rhythm of the enemy is difficult with the emulator like people have been saying, but just remember if you put an enemy to sleep the battle music fades and the sound of the rhythm is emphasized, making it much easier to combo (still kind of difficult on an emulator)

Plus certain battles don't really have a rhythm visible in the music alone, so unless you really understand music gotta put an enemy to sleep to find it (Mr. Passion)

That's what I did. As soon as you get to the club... go west to the chimera lab. There is a Ostrelephant there that gives hundreds of exp a pop with a hot spring in the next frame to the left. Got from lvl 21 to 28 at a pretty nice speed (since it takes 3-4 PK loves to drop him).

Another spot for this is inside the Lightning Tower. There is a room with 5 weak monsters (moles with brain cases or something) and you can enter/ exit the room and wipe the floor with them many times before you use up all of your PP healing yourself... and a few frames over is one of those healing capsuls. Do this a few times and the rest of the game becomes much, much easier.

The last spot for this is outside of . Keep popping the roaches and the shrooms until you run out of PP for healing... then go back in to the hotspring, restore your pp/hp, and go back out again. I only did it this time so I could farm enough DP to stash several Cup of Life Noodles... but it was mad exp anyways.

It's only worth doing this when you have a character with heal though... since healing items/ DP can be hard to come by, but yeah... being over leveled made the game a hell of a lot easier without taking too much time.

Also... I haven't had any problems doing combos since I learned how to do them. I use a standard issue VBA emulator with these settings. Vsync, Render Method: Direct3D, 0 frameskip, and automatic frameskip disabled. There are certain areas in the game that have slowdowns for a few seconds (4-6 areas, it wasn't a whole lot), but for the most part I run at 100% speed with no visible lag.

Holy fuck those BROOMS.

So.. wait, there are 8 chapters? Man this is a pretty long game.

And this is pretty much the best sequel Earthbound fans could ask for. It has the Mother feel to it, but it's still it's own original game. Ever since SSBB I assumed Mother 3 would be Earthbound except instead of Ness the main character is Lucas. But I've hardly played as Lucas at all at this point (I'm at the Nosohe Castle with the princess and Wess trying to pass those goddam brooms(they've caught me twice)).

I played 12hrs Friday (maybe not actually 12, fastforward may have a thing to do with it, but anyway) and I am somewhat halfway through chapter 4 I think. I haven't had time to play it at all since then but I'm gonna get back into it as soon as I can.

I'm really happy to see so many people liking it. I mean, I love Earthbound but I know it isn't for everybody, but hey, if this actually reaches out to more people..

Also, I'm going pretty fast (battle-wise) and I think I'm a tad underleveled. I had LOADS of trouble fighting Mr.Passion and . In Earthbound, using ZSNES, I powerleveled like fucking crazy, even get some guys lvl99 by the end of the game ._.

But yeah this game rules.

You should really write like HUGE SPOILERS on your Image tag though, Chainer.

It doesn't really count as a spoiler since the only possible way to recognize the silhouette is to already be familiar with the scene. And it's not like the text gives anything away.

what i did for mr. passion was put him to sleep and then decrease his attack. i kept doing this until he could only hit me for 1 damage. i didn't even realize he was a boss until after i beat him.

I am in Chapter 4 now. It's neat how they're BREAKING ALL THE RULES by not having the currency system kick in until half way through. I've never seen a game do this, but I haven't played a recent RPG in ages. The story is also a million times more captivating than Earthbound's.

This is such an epic game. You can really tell the developers put all of their heart and soul in to it.

My only complaint is that the music isn't quite as groovy as Earthbound's. Then again I think the sound quality is lowered a bit by the emulator. I wish I had a slot 2 card for my DS. : \

I just came from scouring the internet and I'm very glad to see how well this is being received in general..... and not just in the cult communities. Nintendo fucked things up so badly for the series in the US/UK (they didn't even release EB in the UK, did they?) it's no wonder that the internet was the only way for most people to access the series.

I considered that, but I figured it was too remote for the casual player to put together.

I think it's the fact that it's on the GBA in general. Just check out the differences between the GBA and SNES version of this song.

The quality definitely took a dive.

It could also be the lead musician himself though. Mother 3 didn't use either of the original key musicians this time around. They where indeed awesome though. While fishing for those videos I came across this... a pianno medly of all of the original songs for the NES. It's no surprise how a lot of the original songs stayed throughout the entire series (and Smashbrothers for that matter).

:edit: The last one he does in this Bat battle theme in Mother 3. The rest are from the first though~

Just for kicks, here is the same guy doing the first theme I pointed out on Pianno.

I find an emulator easier, because I can just set it to a higher speed and wala, the combos suddenly get easier.

My only problem that I get with comboing is the bosses, Argh I hate Oh-So-Snakes beat -.-
