It isn't, really. But it makes battles last several turns less and it keeps them interesting seeing as how there is like... 80 battle themes to work with.

combo-ing is useful against harder bosses like the stupid mecha-drago but for the most part it's a sly way to keep you from getting bored in an otherwise barebones battle system.  what better way to keep you into the game than by listening to the awesome music and pressing buttons to the beat?

If you have something like over 30 hp, just press like mad when he does his final blow, and you'll just barely get through the text before you hit 0. ;d

Just went back down the mountain and got to level 17, then changed the settings on no$gba to make it easier to combo.

Also, the sound is better now, so w00t!

EDIT: Just learnt that you can hear the beat of an enemy by making it sleep, Hypno-Pendant ACTIVATE!

learn to abuse the rolling hp counter (which is actually much much much slower than it was in earthbound).  anything that interrupts the "roll" will modify it based on the number it was set on.  this means if you end a fight even though you've taken lethal damage the counter will stop.  slower characters are often better because when you use a healing item it will heal you from whatever number the counter is currently set on.  say, for example you have 30 hp and you select nut bread.  the enemy attacks first dealing 10 hp but you ate the nut bread when the counter hit 25; you'll recover up to 55hp instead of 50.

Yeap. I had more trouble with the clay robot than I did with Mecha Drago.

just exchange rotten eclairs for jerky. you can get eclairs from the one eating ghost.

If you're going to fight the super armoroed knight, just fight the sword and shield first then take out the ghost knight. :P

MOTHER 3 IS THE BEST GAME EVER.

i am a hardcore MOTHER fan and i have been for quite a while, as anyone who's seen my art in GA would know (i've done nothing but MOTHER fanart for quite a while, haha). i played Mother 3 in Japanese using spookychee's gamefaqs translation guide + what i know of Japanese. it went well; i understood the story and i cried many, MANY times. i have been following the translation project since its humble beginnings, though, and i knew i would be playing it the day it came out. i would have posted in this topic earlier but i was too busy playing Mother 3.
right now i am in the middle of Chapter 4. it's a good one, though not as good as chapter 8...~

EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY THIS GAME. i don't know how i can convince all of you to play it but you MUST do so. it is the best game i have ever seen. it's more of an experience than a game. you will cry. you will cry manly tears, i assure you. be proud of it. and yet you will laugh harder than you have in a long time.

Mother 3 is all that is good in the world. ;_;
