Me and my housemate just finished playing around with the demo. Gotta say this game's meeting all our expectations and more. It plays incredibly smoothly, and the ingame free running quickly becomes second nature. The graphics are stunning, vibrant and beautiful. It's a sense of in game freedom I've not felt for a long time and the momentum is spot on. It is extremely linear but it's masked masterfully so that you never really notice it.

Everyone, go download it. Now.

You're the only great review I've heard of the demo. I haven't looked at a lot of thoughts yet but out of the ones I've seen (and yes it's more than just like 2), people are complaining that it is extremely repetitive.

Some even said they canceled their pre-order because it was too repetitive!

I think the game is ok, yes It's going to get repetitive, but now a days almost all games do. one thing I like about this game is that you can combo allot of moves in to attacks to efficiently take out the enemies infact I think you can do some insane combo maybe later on in the game. The graphics are amazing and the sound makes you feel like there is a busy city below you.

I had no expectations of this game but I really enjoyed the demo. It's a different sort of game and I liked how guns wasn't the main "weapon of choice" but rather your fists and kicks. There is a nice thrill when jumping between houses (especially when you are on the run and there is little time to check out what's on the other side - you just jump and hope for the best). Nice graphics too! The red stuff that points out where to go doesn't bother me at all. I didn't even notice it after the tutorial was over.

I might just buy this.

The demo is about 20 minutes long so I don't see how they could make that kind of conclusion from that.

maybe ima GAAAAAY but I like that theme song. It definitely jives with the overall audio/visual tone of the game. And on that note, I enjoyed the demo. Repetitive? Well, the entire thing did basically take place on the same sort of rooftops we've been seeing in most of the trailers and game footage. But like leafo said, how can you say GAME IS TOO REPETITIVE based on a fucking tutorial and 10 minutes of a single level released as a DEMO. Chances are, most of the game WILL be the same sort of free running shit you do in the demo but i was enjoying it just for the graphics and overall atmosphere too. Running from or confronting the fuzz seems fun as well.

It was little touches that stood out for me too. The fact that you can ROLL as you land, something idk if I've ever seen in a FPS game. it's actually legitimately disorienting - the camera shakes all around and spins upside down and you see your torso and legs and shit. Even just the way the camera pans feels real. The crunch of a door as you bodyslam it, the way the camera seems off balance as you stumble inside. HEARING FAITH GRUNT AND PANT as she exerts herself. They are all refreshing touches on the FPS formula. It's reminding me of some of the things about Assasin's Creed that I liked - the free running along city rooftops namely, except you're much more in control and there hopefully won't be any PAINFULLY FUCKING DULL countryside traversing. Also I love any game that can give me a little vertigo (like the bit in HalfLife 2 where you're traversing the underside of a railway tresle, one of the best parts of the game I find.)

My interest was piqued awhile ago when I first saw that trailer, and the demo only reinforced that.

I played the demo a few times, and I thought man, is there really just this running in stairs shit you can do?

I played the demo a couple of times and I have to say it reminds me of portal in many ways.
The fact this obviously actually meant to be a first-person puzzle game rather than an FPS for starters (and I can imagine the puzzle getting a lot longer and harder later!), but also the colours in the art direction with white being the dominant colour with oranges, blues and reds complimenting the white.

that's really got nothing to do with the distaste at changing the character's appearance. it's not about "oh man i don't want to a look at nipples when i'm playing this gross!" or whatever, nobody cares whether you'll see her in game or not. it's the idea that women need to have huge tits and have anime faces to be marketable. it's just a sexist kind of attitude that you only get one kind of female videogame character and they have to be defined mostly by how titilating they are. it's gross lame and stupid. if the character of this game had always looked like this female game character i'm describing, i don't think anyone would have said anything cos there wouldn't be anything to do except ignore it cos it's stupid, but the annoyance comes from her being a heck reasonably proportioned woman? there are very few female game characters who the first thing you notice about isn't how big their tits are or how skimpy their outfit is, and she was one of them so it was cool. then people heard they were gonna scrap that cool aspect of this game and replace it with the stuff we (or i was, anyway) giving this game some credit for avoiding.

and actually i can't remember now whether they are actually changing the box art for japan but even if they aren't the points are still relevant even if not directly to this game.

if you're talking about the change in appearance then i don't know why you come to a forum like this. if you are going to sit back and say "heh games don't matter quit getting pissy" then just don't post. it's not about whether this thing matters in the grander sense, because obviously it doesn't, it matters very little, but as far as this game goes this is something worth talking about and just saying who cares is the opposite of discussion so don't do it.

if you meant big deal in response to something else then nevermind.
Just because you have a strong opinion of it doesn't mean you have more right to post about it than others.  Sometimes topics like this need a reality check because it really doesn't fucking matter.

Also for fuck's sake, use some capitalization.  All lower-cased isn't cool or edgy, it just makes long paragraphs difficult to read.

But back on topic:

This game looks really cool, but I can't imagine paying full price for it.  $50 just seems insane for a puzzle game that looks like it has about 6 hours of play time.  $20 was a good price for Portal on its own, and $25 seems about right for Mirror's Edge.

I'm just going to wait for it to be cheap on the PC.  I just got Assassin's Creed for $20, and that'll take care of my parkour cravings for the time being.

Xanqui did you really read jamicus's post and only come out thinking "man this guy thinks he's so cool because he's not capitalizing his letters."

hey im going to take a different tack and suggest it is cool and edgy since the coolest and edgiest gw members tend to use it. I mean, even fucking BART does it and he made the site.

i dont know what criteria you'd use to describe cool and edgy in posting styles (FLASHING TEXT! INTERROBANG!) but wouldn't that be indicative enough?

Just beat the demo, and I'm going to get this after Christmas.

Side Note:  I started playing when one of my friends got on Live, and we decided to race.  I turned off the Runner Vision (so, no red ramps, pipes, etc) and he played normal.  I beat him, and he's beat the demo before.

*sighs*
I just read through this topic, And read all of your excited posts, and i remember feeling like that about this game. But I'm sorry to say, Its bad.

The Demo flowed so nicely. Once you look past the part about the cutscenes looking like they were made by a 15 year old in flash the demo was nice, The pace to start off with was good, it flowed so nicely. The rooftops had this feeling to them as if you could go anywhere, you drop down the vent and flee the guards, It was great, Nicely paced and short. A Pretty good demo to introduce the rest of the game.

The rest of the game, Not so great. I've played it for about an hour and a half before i got frustrated at the thing and went back to playing fallout3. So honestly i cant call it the rest of the game, But its EA, I don't see them changing their ways.

To sum up my opinions of this, This game has about as much Freedom As Contra or any 2d Platformer. The only difference is the graphics and camera angle.
As i progress i find less and less places where the area feels open, There is always a Specific way the game wants you to go. And if you don't go that way, You die, And have to start over from the checkpoint. Which makes things so fucking annoying when you can see one or two other ways to do it. But for some reason the developers decided to put you in a Boxed area, where your one escape is over a Barbed wire fence, And they threw in a good 7 troops with shotguns too, Who start shooting at you while your on a Moving platform with nowhere to go.

The Level design Gets to me too. In the Demo i was thinking "Here is a Runner who Exploits her Surroundings to get from point A to point B as best she can" the rest of the game is filled with environments that unless you are a Super Athletic Parkour runner, You would have no HOPE getting around, There are walkways with missing sections and handrails, Fences for no Reason. Well placed sandbags so you can Springboard up things, Big padded mats on the roof for you to land on.

This being said, I haven't finished the game, and i haven't done the race mode. I would say rent or borrow it rather than buy.
