Hey guys,

So there has been some discussion between Sarevok and myself about reviving some D&D games on IRC. Commonly, we'd post topics like these in the roleplaying forum, but obviously that can't be done. But this way we'd probably be able to reach out to people who otherwise wouldn't have known about this.

Some information:
We play in #darkling on the whahay IRC server
While we are open about other games/versions, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 is the mainstay edition we're looking to play
Whether you know how to play or not is a non-issue, I will personally be running educational lessons
We are looking for are people who want to play and believe they can commit to a weekly/bi-weekly game
New Dungeon Masters are VERY welcome

Feel free to post here and share your play experience, playing preference (Player or DM), time zone, and play times that would be good for you. Also feel free to drop by the #darkling channel to get more information/express interest.

Disclaimer: While you may be excited to play, keep in mind that timezones and schedules tend to be extremely hard to matchup, and depending on the DM's schedule, you might simply not be able to make it to certain scheduled sessions. We can't promise that everyone can play and it wholly depends on the variety of DMs we get.

If you are worried about not having the materials to play, I strongly ask that you visit us in #darkling, we have a lot of resources setup to support people looking for D&D-related materials.

New players might also try out this official "demo" of D&D (its still 3.5) http://www.wizards.com/playdnd/playdnd.asp

Man, I really want to play/run a campaign like all the time but it's hard to get a consistent time I can get on unless if its super late at night (11pm)

I might do this shit. It would mean DnD without finding a group of people I don't even want to be around.  I only have a vague idea of the rules, mostly from video games based on them. Oh well, I can pick it up no problem. Any limits on races and stuff like that?

Yeah I have never played DnD before, but I have always been curious to try. I have a vague understanding of like DC and stuff mostly from KOTOR.

I would be interested. Basically anything past 6:00pm EST is game for me. I'd also like to know any restrictions on races. (I love Gripply (gripply suck) so much)

PS: I'm not too good with rules but I can learn them quick

I also like to build worlds/stories so i could make a decent co-gm (in fact im doing it for my colleges DnD group too, but I'm not actually going to be involved in the playing of it at all myself...just creating it all and watching the other DM change whatever he wants willy nilly and BASTARDIZING MY BEAUTIFUL LAND! HE ADDED ELVES. FUCKING ELVES. IN MY WORLD. ELVES!!!!)
don't mind me, just postin' after a few brewskies

To be specific, race is important because I read the DnD thing about how to play a gnoll as a player character and I want to be a fucking gnoll now.

I don't know much about D&D beyond the basics, but I would be up to play.

I've been wanting to play 3.0-3.5 again for awhile, I'd be up for this.

It really depends on the DM and the campaign setting. We can't just say 'yeah gnolls allowed' and then have a campaign where we're slaying an army of gnolls. The thing you gotta bear in mind is 'would a gnoll (or any other race) actually get along with the rest of the PCs?' answer: probably not. unless everyone is gonna be a gnoll, there's not really MUCH chance of getting to play as one.

that's what that whole DnD guide was about though, how to make them work in a way that they can fit into a party

If anyone's interested you'll want to check out #darkling at some point.  There's usually someone active and most anyone can answer any question you might have.

I've been looking for a way into this nerd theatre stuff, so I might as well start here. I haven't ever played tabletop before, but I've lurked around D&D boards for long enough (leeching creativity) to get the gist of it. Not too familiar with IRC, though. Like, how do you roll dice over the internet?

I'm at GMT +1, but since I'll only really have time in the weekends anyway I can probably stretch my sleeping schedule enough to work with whatever time zone. I'll go and check out #darkling sometime.

I wouldn't mind participating in something like this, I used to play DnD a couple of years ago. When we play could pose a problem, considering I am in New Zealand and am busy studying for my end of year exams. Might be difficult. Wouldn't mind having a go, though.

If this gets popular enough to turn at least semi-regular, then I will definitley be in.

My freinds always want to get a playgroup together, so I'll definitley welcome more experience with the game. (I'm also interested in DM type stuff, but I want to play a few games first to get a feel for it.)
