There are extremely few professional gamers who perform at top level after they're about 25.  He's going to have to realize that he can't do this sort of thing forever.  You need to have something else that you can do, because once your career is finished it'll be just a cool footnote on your resume and nothing more than that (unless you move to Japan or South Korea, in which case you'll have an easier go at becoming a public figure).

This is just...I don't know. I really want to say something about how the parents suck for letting him do this, because seriously, you'd be better off (money-wise) becoming a session guitarist or something. Guitar Hero...? I can't think of a game I'd like to dedicate my life to *less*.

But if he really wants to do it, it's really nothing to do with me. He can fuck his life up (in my opinion) all he wants.
Upon arriving the attending doctor could find no abnormal physical symptoms other than extremely dilated pupils. After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

I'm serious if I was that fucker's dad I'd make him sign one of those civil independence forms or whatever they're called along with the form to let him drop out and then kick his stupid ass on the street.

I don't get how people (even a 16 yo) could be so disgustingly stupid.

edit: except it quotes his mom so oh shit don't tell me his mom's name is hunter that is usually a name reserved for little boys raised by rednecks and their entire wardrobe consists of dirty camo sweatshirt/sweatpants combos
I love this hobby - stealing your mother's diary

This reminds me of a news report about gaming and they said how it was contributing to obesity when it was proven that gamers were in fact fitter more then on average then compaired to an average person, why it reminds me of that i don't know, just does. I'm friends with the best SSBM player in the UK and whilst he plays at tourneys he still goes to college and just started uni last September. What i mean is playing games tourney even professionally isn't a good enough reason to drop out of school, that is just bad parenting, but its more then likely going to be blamed on Video games.

as it always will be...  Companies do all they can already to make sure games dont fall into players who aren't supposed to play them (eg. ESRB).  In the end it will be up to the parents to control what the kids play.

Which is a massive problem, because parents seem to want to give their children the opportunities they never had as children (i.e. give in to their every desire). Maybe, there was a *reason* that you didn't get what you wanted as a child. Maybe, not giving in to your children teaches them that they don't always make the best decisions. It also teaches them how to handle disappointment. Lots of legislation's getting passed in Australia to put less responsibility on parents and more on society (i.e. sex education in schools, $4000 for having a baby, paid maternity leave). Parents need to take responsibility for their children. Because they're *your* goddamn kids.

QFT, but then again there's a line between giving your child opportunities and letting your child's immature inhibitions control them, then later on only to really set them up for failure in life.

What the fff

I dropped out with basically ZERO PLAN, and I think it's the worst decision I've ever made etc. but from now on I can always point to this story and say at least I'm not that shithead. I just...no words. Kids are growing up so fucking stupid.

I don't know why but I found this revelation deeply depressing.

The Last Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero 2: Heroes Never Die

This is a sad idea. I can't believe it actually came true. It's not even that good a game. :(
