I saw Psycho today for the first time, again as part of my film class.  It wasn't at all what I expected, which I'm not quite sure what I mean by that since I didn't really have any solid expectations.  I just know that it wasn't what I always expected.  But, that was in a positive way.  It was very, very good, and unlike a lot of films I didn't have it figured out by the end (the ending did cross my mind at some point, but I thought that would have contradicted it, I guess he's just that good).  I even jumped the second time they did the violin noise, even though it's been used so much since.  Overall, it was just an excellent film.  I really like that this film class is leading me to watch all these Hitchcock films because they've always been something I wanted to see but for some reason I just never had.

Also sometime during this film it occurred to me that Vertigo was the first of the ones we've watched that I didn't notice the Hitchcock cameo in, I had to go and look it up  :fogetsad:  I was doing so good so far, too.  According to Wikipedia it's like ELEVEN SECONDS in though so I guess that's why.

Yeah, I saw Psycho like two months ago for the first time, which is very long overdue. You think that half a century later and all the pop culture references, the movie would be dry. I was very surprised as it does not feel "primitive" at all, rather it still manages to bring some shocks + twist that are still fresh.

My comments make me a cinema idiot.

Oh and my only gripe with Psycho is that they had to explain everything the last 2 minutes of the movie for all the morons on the back row. I mean, c'mon. Give us a little credit.

Monsters vs. Aliens at IMAX yesterday.  Such an awesome movie, especially the pacing which was pretty upbeat throughout.  There was really no time during the movie where there was a lull or low point so my interest was kept throughout.

for some reason I never knew that T-101 didn't kill people in Terminator 2 Judgement Day. Growing up, I knew Arnold was my dad's idol... when I was little he got me watching shit I probably shouldn't have seen, like Predator etc. So I always imagined Arnie as the blam blam killy guy. (Junior and other comedies aside) However, just watched Terminator 2 on bluray (an upgrade that doesn't make a difference. might as well get the dvd and save the price! (but it was on sale ;-;)) and he didn't kill 1 person! Probably on purpose, to make the T-1000 seem evil by comparison (instead of just a skinny guy who can liquify).

yeah, John Connor told him not to kill anyone. Hence the scene where seconds later he shoots the security guard in the leg and says "He'll live"

Yeah, this is how I felt.  I thought that since it's become such a well known thing, it wasn't going to be so surprising.  That's why I was REALLY impressed when that violin noise that has been copied hundreds of times since then still got me.

Oh and my only gripe with Psycho is that they had to explain everything the last 2 minutes of the movie for all the morons on the back row. I mean, c'mon. Give us a little credit.

I do agree with this, I mean once you see you understand what's going on.  I guess I could understand MAYBE clarifying a little bit more about some of the events of the past, but even still you can infer that.  I didn't need a long monologue telling me every little piece of a story I understood.  I mean, when I said I didn't figure out the ending ahead of time, I mean that when they actually REVEALED it I got it, not when they explained it after the fact.  That was just unnecessary.

really hope I'm reading false sarcasm in that man, because that's what the movie is actually about.

and there's nothing wrong with that.

this trend to put everything in 3d has probably got to stop paying dividends soon tho.

aw that's a disappointment. there's so many easy ways to go with any of those characters, it sucks they didn't.

La Moustache. Has anybody else seen this? It's like all the other french movies I've seen; really fucking weird. Basically
it's about this dude that shaves of his stache, everything goes wacko and he escapes to China where he jumps on and
off a boat for a whole day. Lol, can't really say more cause I don't wanna spoil the tension throughout the whole movie
if you decide to see it. Gonna ponder for awhile on it cause it's kinda open for interpretition I guess.

anthony lane liked the monsters vs aliens movie okay. said it was a decent kids movie but he was more than a little interested in what this new 3d filiming stuff will do (it's not shot like old 3d so).

Waltz with Bashir was the last film I watched. Pretty spectacular to me, considering I have no knowledge about the lebanon war at all. Very good collection of anti-war stories compressed into an hour and a half blend of real and surreal animation. Strangely compelling and unique, even the animation itself used in such the bizarre way it has been is enough to make it worth a watch.

too lazy to make a seperate topic but apparently X Men Wolverine got leaked. also they're doing a new Three Stooges remake with Jim Carrey as Curly, Sean Penn as Larry, and Benecio Del Toro as Moe. i don't know what to think!

its also a comedy, not a biopic. the fact that those are big names indicates to me it might be not terrible scriptwise but they are also the last people I would choose. well maybe carrey but that's because he WAS a big name. I really expected JACK BLACK WILL FERREL etc.
