medicine for melancholy. i only heard about it a couple of hours ago and it sounded kind of interesting so i got it. anyway, it was okay. i dunno, neither of the characters were really that likable they were pretty superficial and pretentious. the film was about two black people who have a one night stand and the guy has an issue with thinking the woman acts white, essentially, while he identifies himself as indie, punk, whatever. that is the interesting part of the film, but you know all those really stark minimalist precious romances you see (usually starring artistic white americans) - this film is exactly one of those outside of the black theme. it's probably an interesting idea in itself, taking something like that and putting black americans in it, but the way the movie was made it seemed more like the film maker didn't think that these kinds of films i am talking about are total bullshit and i do. like i think i was supposed to think these two people were cool and they weren't. wyatt cenac (from the daily show) was the male lead and he isn't a very good actor, i don't think. maybe i'm taking that from the daily show, where everyone is bad at acting including him. the woman, who i don't know, was better than him. i might just be saying that because she was beautiful. i probably am. forget i said anything.
anyway yeah it felt like i'd seen this exact film before because, apart from the black identity theme, i absolutely have. two disillusioned, disconnected hot young people meet in that big lonely city, get to know each other over 1 day, everything is awkward, everything is bleak, everything is beautiful. the movie ends in that matter of fact way.
i dunno. like i don't have anything against what the film said, more just how it said it. it did give me a little perspective on something i hadn't thought of before, and watching a film is always SOMETHING so yeah it was okay but yes i do think it was a bit lame.
