sigh,...just when ya think ya know someone

imo this would be one of frusciante's worst.  except for a couple of songs, i don't think anything about it is very interesting and it sounds kind of like other bland post-millennium frusciante stuff.  i'm disappointed, i was hoping for another shadows.

i don't think it's his worst. it's about on par with curtains i'd say. after listening to it a bit more i still like it (might be the fanboy in me..), but none of the tracks really STAND OUT though like a few from curtains and the will to death did. idk it's obvious he's trying to do something new (lots of choirs and classical influences), but it's def no shadows or to record only water or niandra..

hahaha thats a good post.

also yeah ryan it's like that.  it's like if the will to death or curtains didnt have any stand out songs, only they did, so the albums as a whole i think are much better (i.e. worth listening to).  the strongest song on here is unreachable and that is just OKAY.  if the whole album was as good as this i would think it was a lot better but eh, i'm unimpressed!  i agree, def no shadows/to record only water/niandra (or even smile).

unreachable is one of the worst tracks. There are way better tracks there, but still, this record is not John to me. This is Omar Rodriguez Lopez fault, I'm telling you guys.

nah man i feel unreachable, especially the second half, is one of the better parts of the album.  it's all pretty unexceptional, though.

listening to music before it's release date is like having sex before you get married...wait until that knot is tied, it'll make it the postponed release that much sweeter

my fav review:

Quote
Given the wildly uneven quality of Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante’s avant-garde solo work over the years, and the fact that this, his most recent release, is a concept record that also includes a cover of Tim Buckley’s epic noodling headscratcher, “Song to the Siren,” you’d be forgiven for approaching this disc with a healthy degree of trepidation.  Try and remember, though, that the last great Chili Peppers record (By the Way) was a winner engineered almost entirely by Frusciante, and that The Empyrean includes guest spots by fellow Pepper Flea as well as Johnny Marr -- so it’s at least gotta be better than his "Your Pussy's Glued to a Building on Fire," right?
