it was his idea to kill birds to increase crop yeild, because birds were eating everything. when they killed all the birds the insects multiplied like mad and destroyed the crops, millions died of starvation

that was my understanding of it. oh and he was a communist.

That pretty much sounds like an idea a monster would have

It's kinda hard to be objective when talking about someone who we only ever really hear about through shall we say cautious minds. From what I know, he was a terrible person who failed to achieve his promises and resulted in the deaths of millions. But at the same time, while I can agree that it's somewhat true, there's also the fact that whatever we see about him in the media is bound to be prejudice as our lives are effectively governed by FOX NEWS or whatever your drug of choice may be (BBC and the Guardian for me) and they are all hyper-critical of any communist persons.
Mao is completely left out of the education system here(seriously one of the most important guys whose effect is still felt and is kinda useful to know who he is and yet is totally abandoned (likewise Lenin was mysteriously absent when I studied history at school, it was all FOCUS ON THE HUN AND HOW WE BEAT THEM! That's modern history in england in a nutshell)) and when I've looked for him it's either HIDEOUS MONSTER or much much lesser BRAVE LEADER.
It's really bad to claim ignorance on such an important guy when history is my thing and I have a strong interest in red. But more horrifying to know that unless you actually look for information on or stumble upon him in your own ways, you will not have any idea who he is in England.

Also Cheers Rajew, I forgot about Jews. I'd date anyone except a Gook and a Kike (and most likely a Goon)

Generally people who propagate the line that mao was some sort of diabolical villain are: idiots with little grasp of what actually happened (you), hacks who write sensational bullshit, and cold warrior dinosaurs .

Even roderick macfarquhar who is the most serious critic of the subject doesn't bother with that crap because not enough is known to make character judgments like that. On top of that new research is emerging in and outside of china that challenges the "Mao=Monster" bullshit. But w/e good job derailing the thread, faggot.

under his leadership and as a direct consequence of his policies the greatest famine in history occurred. the great leap forward led to millions of deaths and he basically ran a police state.  :woop:

oh but he was a communist so naturally you gotta play the apologist role!

Tried dating a Presbyterian once.  I have to say, barring any deaths of friends and family, it was the single most terrifying experience of my life.

I have no problem dating anyone who holds different political perspectives, but I absolutely refuse to date another Christian girl.  Based on my own experiences and those of other people I've known I can only come to the conclusion that they possess far more of a propensity to become twisted diabolical cunts than average girls.

I'm posting from a phone atm but my conclusion is that revolutionary china was an incredible part of history that brought healthcare to millions, nearly eliminated illiteracy, liberated a nation from brutal foreign forces, elevated women from being footbound secondclass citizens to complete equality with men, and drew millions of people into the politics of the country.

the chinese civil war started long before the japanese invasion, and yeah china now has universal healthcare and a low illteracy rate but many of these accomplishments were achieved long after Mao was dead and it's pretty lol to just disregard the millions upon millions of people who died (during Mao's lifetime!) because they saw fit to rush the industrialization process with disregard for the poor and working class. Mao was nothing but an opportunist who was personally responsible for numerous party and political purges, and responsible as the leader of a state for the people who died because his country rushed to industrialized status with little regard as to how it would effect the populace.

+500 icepoints for being a condescending asshole tho!

I'm interested in how and why the mistakes were made, too. I just think it's silly to try and defend Mao when from all that I've read and researched about him he appears to be little more than an opportunist who had little talent in the actual running of a country. I think his political writings are near-brilliant, however. I don't see why you take my criticism of Mao as some kind of anti-Communist bias, tho! If anything I think Mao, like Stalin and Pol Pot are little more than detriments to socialist causes.

No I don't think Mao is equivalent to Pol Pot and Stalin in terms of what he did, I was just remarking that I think he, along with those two, helps give socialism and communism a bad name.
