The teenager, named as Abraham K Biggs, from Broward County, Florida, took an overdose of pills while broadcasting himself on Justin.tv, a live video streaming website.

On a chat forum he told others he was going to commit suicide and posted a suicide note on another forum before taking the pills and turning on his webcam.

The 19-year-old lay on his bed and only after several hours of no movement did others begin to take him seriously. With the video still running, forum members managed to contact the local police who eventually broke down the door, found the body and switched off the camera. Up to 1,500 people were viewing the feed, according to one report.

Yeah, I read the CNN article about this. It is very disturbing how numb the internet makes people.

i actually dont blame the forum guys because the dude apparently took the pills off camera. not that i'd be all "yeah okay lol" but i probably wouldnt have called the cops until it was too late either!

at least he didn't do it violently.

i mean it's still horrible but at least you don't have 1500 people watching a man hanging but apparently someone did that before.

Yeah read about this on Digg I think. Pretty tragic stuff... what he really needed was help, not to be egged on. Whatever though... like Steel said, I probably wouldn't have called the cops earlier either. I mean, it would be a lot of work and trying to describe how you're worried about some random guy on the internet who says he's going to kill himself... !

Unbelieveable.

It's always a tragedy when someone's life ends early, irregardless of the circumstances that cause that end. My sympathies to the family. I can empathize with the father of the deceased but I can also understand how many of the people online would think that it's not real. Still, it took TEN HOURS for someone to call this guy's bluff. TEN HOURS! How do you not see that the person on the other side of the camera is NOT BREATHING?!

Senseless. Absolutely senseless.
